triggering typographical animations and embedded sound.
FOR
IMMEDIATE
RELEASE:
aple ep:
July 15th, 2010
Lightrhythm today released its 10th
title in 5 years, the “aple ep” - an
audiovisual
insight
to
the
experimental work of visual artist
Scott
McPherson
a.k.a.
amoeba. Creating both music and
video simultaneously - amoeba's
refined typography and IDM
production has attracted the
label’s curators and a host of
international artists, who will
contribute visual remixes to the
release this summer.
amoeba’s EP delivers a matured,
stylized motion graphic which he
has developed over the past years
in the visual arts scene. The
music
videos
lean
toward
typographic abstraction, creating
worlds where the elemental play
of structure, colour and beat
compete for the leading role.
Varying approaches yield a range
of moods: from the glitched out
animation of “dubgrade glitch” to
the rhythmic alternating sync of
“micro-glitch machine funk” and
“vector glitch battle”.
Combining
an
even,
fresh
soundtrack with museum-caliber
images, aple is a must-see for the
audiophile, VJ and art collector.
For the first time amoeba lays
down some of the secrets which
he has devised from his coastal
studio in Brighton UK, which have
made him part of the international
arts scene as both a performer
and producer. He is now
consistently taking his show
around Europe an beyond,
recently opening at festivals for
One Dot Zero and Kazantip in the
Ukraine.
amoeba’s
new
wave
of
audiovisual
live
has
been
described as everything from
"ground breaking" to "subtly
ambient". When asked about the
signing,
label
founder
Ben
Sheppee said "Scott has become
recognized as a strong example
of progress that is currently taking
place
in
the
audiovisual
movement; I think that this album
will really help others realize the
art-form, skill set and raise the
standard
on
this
kind
of
performance."
This inspiring process and
collection has presented an
interesting
challenge
to
selected remix artists around
the world. amoeba has
shared source files with top
visual
performers
and
designers
from
Russia
France and the UK. Each
remix producer has studied
the “aple” technique, and
applied their own style to
McPherson’s
experiments,
arranging and interpreting the
compositions
differently.
A key element of aple is its
creative
concept:
amoeba
explains his production technique
as arrange / process / loop / edit the acronym which inspires the
album’s title. Focusing on these
techniques,
"versions"
and
"reactions"
display
variation
around the core aesthetics of
McPherson's style, and uncover
an exhibition of sampling, which
could potentially change the way
music and video is performed in
the future.
Visual remixes can be found
next to other additional menus
and features on the dvd. Docu
-mented live performances and
a preview of the album highlights
the data side of the disc, which
holds an additions 1.5gb of
video data and encourages
viewers to take part in a remix
competition.
/ORIGIN
Each track originally started live
as a 5 second identically with
synched
audio
known
as
[origin] for use as live AV samples.
Each [origin] is played directly
before the [version] or [reactions]
tracks, in order to show the
process and evolution of the track.
/VERSION
Each [origin] was re-sequenced
and processed using audiovisual
software, the resulting a/v mixes
evolved into the first individual
tracks now known as [versions].
/REACTION
The evolved [version] mix, were
then remixed [reactions]. In the
[reaction] process the [version]
were deconstructed and eroded in
aftereffects, re- sequenced in
software with audio re-edits.
The “Restrukture” competition
will take place on cyberbrothers.tv
and invites the viewer to submit
their own remixes for consideration on the future album
release (please see RESTRUCKTURE
press release for more details).
The EP is now available from
distributors globally and online
at http://lightrhythmvisuals.com
Dont miss this great title.
About amoeba
Scott McPherson started to
work under the alias amoeba
in 1995, as a one man
design
studio,
creative
providing art-direction and
design for branding, print,
publishing, motion graphics
and music video direction and
production. His experimental
style quickly emerged in a
performance element as he
approached visuals and then
audiovisual stages throughout
the UK and Europe.
