FRESH returns this Spring with our ‘Pay What You Think’
performances, showcasing exciting new talent, right here at
The Courthouse.
The Courthouse Gallery features exhibitions throughout the year by
both regional and national artists who work in a variety of mediums.
Gallery open 10am–4.30pm Monday to Saturday.
Thursday 31st March (7.30pm)
Henry Raby is a nerd punk poet from York.
After discovering that he couldn’t play guitar
he embarked on a quest to become the Joe
Strummer of spoken word with his anarchic,
honest, funny and passionate style.
Thursday 12th January (7pm)
Adults: £15 | U18s & 60+ £12
Almost 170 years on, Charlotte
Brontë’s story of the trailblazing
Jane is as inspiring as ever. This bold
and dynamic production uncovers
one woman’s fight for freedom
and fulfilment on her own terms.
Director Sally Cookson now brings
her celebrated production to the
National, presented as a single,
exhilarating performance.
Les Liaisons Dangereuses
Thursday 28th January (7pm)
Adults: £15 | U18s & 60+ £12
Following the hugely successful
broadcasts of Coriolanus and King
Lear, National Theatre Live brings

anticipated new production of
Les Liaisons Dangereuses to The
Courthouse, broadcast live from
the Donmar’s London home.
Off The Rocks Production
Thursday 19th May (7.30pm)
Stephen is dead and not the least bit happy
about it. This is his story. A dark comedy about
love, friendship, custard creams and suicide.

Adults: £15 | U18s & 60+ £12
Shakespeare’s glorious comedy
of love and change comes to the

Manjula (meaning melodious) Incorporating
Portuguese, African, Latin and Jazz influences
with the haunting ambience of Indian vocal
training and the rhythmic attack of jazz
improvisation.
Kezy Feaster
Monday 11th January – Saturday 27th February
Kezy’s love of the Yorkshire landscape and passion for experimenting with
mixed media collide in her vibrant paintings. She sees the moors and
coastal towns in all moods, lights, weather and seasons and in her work
aims to encapsulate the feeling of a place. From an isolated barn amongst
the heather to the clusters of houses that nestle into coastline cliffs, she
interprets these in her own quirky way.
Friday 1st – Friday 29th July
Specialising in kiln formed glass, Rachel Gretton’s new body of work reflects
on relationships, communication and the use of language both spoken and
unspoken. It is language, discourse and the process of negotiating meaning
and truth, which informs Rachel’s work. The act of penetrating glass forms
with fragments of text is literally and metaphorically an act of vitrification,
transforming the everyday speech that passes between us. Rachel has an
interest in exploring the use of projection, reflection, light and shadow
to echo intense experiences reflecting on personal relationships: the
untouchable emotions, celebrating the comfortable silence and expressing
the mental chaos.
“All the world’s a stage and all the men and women
merely players upon it”
Mel Davies & Kim Coley - ‘As You Like It’
Vanessa Kisuule
Thursday 18 August (7.30pm)
Since her debut poetry collection ‘Joyriding the
Storm’ was published in April 2014, Vanessa has
won several slam titles and featured on BBC
Radio 1 and Radio 4.

FRESH
Thursday 24th March – Saturday 9th April
‘FRESH’ is a collaboration of work from emerging artists who have graduated
in the last three years or are recently established artists.
The exhibition features cross disciplinary art work, and is an exciting
opportunity to see new talent, concepts and creations.
Monday 1st August – Friday 2nd September
In celebration of William Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary, Yorkshire artists
Kim Coley and Mel Davies have worked together to create a series of
paintings and graphics influenced by the drama, characters and life of
England’s greatest playwright and poet. With over 37 plays, together with his
poetry and sonnets, Shakespeare is as vital and relevant today as he ever was.
With inspiration taken from well loved and also lesser known Shakespearian
works, this is a unique exhibition created for Rural Arts.
