Deadline May 15th 2016 Dear Coach: Thank you for your interest in the Billerica Memorial Day Tournament, which will be held May 28th – 30th, 2016. The tournament is a sanctioned tournament through Massachusetts Youth Soccer & Billerica Youth Soccer Associations. Competition will be offered for Boys and Girls U10, U12 & U14 Travel Teams. There will also be a U8 Intramural one day tournament to be played on Saturday 28th. Enclosed in this packet you will find the following documents: Tournament Information Sheets Application Team Roster form Medical Release form If you are interested in participating in the tournament, please fill out the attached forms and return them prior to May 15th, 2016. Registration: Tournament Registration Packets will be accepted Friday May 27th at the VVP Field. Details will be sent regarding times etc. the week prior to the Tournament. Team Requirements: All teams must be affiliated with a State Youth Soccer Association and possess a signed certified Roster from your League, which includes date of births. Team Roster Size: U8 may have a maximum of 10 players per team. U10 may have a maximum of 12 players per team: no player can be dual-rostered. U12 may have a maximum of 15 players per team: no player can be dual-rostered. U14 may have a maximum of 18 players per team: no player can be dual-rostered. *Teams are allowed a maximum of 2 guest players per team. Patches, Pins, etc.: This is a patch, pin or other token tournament; teams should have a token to exchange after each game. Awards: U8 & U10 Teams will receive participation awards U12 and U14 Division Winners will receive Trophies. All Teams will be given a Sportsmanship Medal to award to a player on the opposing team. Food: Food & Drinks will be available for purchase. Tournament Items for Sale: T-Shirts will be available for sale. General Tournament Rules 1. Team rosters must be certified by the League to which the team is affiliated. These rosters must be submitted to the Tournament Director along with the Medical Release Forms at least two hours before the first game at the Main Tournament tent located at Vietnam Veterans Park (VVP). Note: Out of State teams must provide permission forms from their State Associations. 2. Players can only play for one team in the Tournament. Failure to comply with these rules will result in a forfeit of any games played. 3. The home team listed in each game will be responsible for wearing alternated colored jerseys or pennies when and if required. 4. Substitutions can be made if the players are at the designated location at mid-field and after proper notification to the referee. Substitutions can occur: At half-time After a goal is scored Prior to a goal kick by either team Prior to your team’s throw in After a caution or injury for the player involved 5. Any player or coach ejected from any game shall be ineligible to appear in the team’s next game. The Tournament Committee will notify the player or coach’s local and state Youth Soccer Association of the ejection. In addition the Tournament Committee may determine if any additional action is warranted. 6. BYSA has a NO-TOLERANCE policy towards a parent’s inappropriate behavior on the sidelines. If a parent is ejected from any game that parent will not be allowed on the fields throughout the remainder of the tournament. In addition The Tournament Committee will notify the teams local and state Youth Soccer Association of the parent ejection. 7. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted at any of the Tournament locations. Violators will be asked by the Tournament Committee or Police to leave the Tournament. 8. In the event of conditions beyond the control of the Tournament Committee, final decisions with respect to game cancellations or terminations shall be made by the Tournament Committee. 9. Patches, pins or another means of appreciation are to be exchanged by players and coaches after each game. Feel free to be creative! 10. Teams must report to their designated fields 15 minutes prior to each game. 11. In the event of Rain or Inclement weather the Tournament Committee will make every effort to ensure that all games are played throughout the Memorial Day weekend. The Tournament Committee will make the decision to change, delay, reduce the length of games, count partially completed games or cancel games. If lightning or thunder is detected all teams must leave the field and after the last lightning strike or thunder sound is heard there will be a mandatory ½ hour delay. The teams will need to stay in the area and be ready to play. Only the Referee or Tournament Director can cancel or post-pone a game. If games are canceled the Tournament Committee will determine winners based on games already played. 12. This Tournament was organized to provide a fun filled weekend for the players, coaches and families. We sincerely hope that all participants will conduct themselves appropriately. The coaches are solely responsible for the behavior or their players and families. The Tournament Committee WILL disqualify a team from the Tournament for inappropriate conduct by any of its coaches, players and or family members Tournament Rules for Games All FIFA Rules apply with the following modifications sanctioned by FIFA, Mass Youth Soccer, Middlesex Youth Soccer and Billerica Youth Soccer Associations for players of school age. 1. Ball Sizes U8 division will use a #3 size ball U10 & U12 divisions will use a #4 size ball U14 division will use a #5 size ball 2. Game Length All bracket play games will have two 25-minutes halves Semi-Final & Final Games U12 – two 30 minutes halves U14 – two 35 minute halves 3. All players must wear shin guards. 4. No jewelry of any kind will be allowed. 5. No hard casts of any kind will be allowed. 6. Teams will remain in their designated areas on the sideline during the game. Parents & families will remain on the opposite side of the field a at least 3 feet back along the sideline so as not to interfere with the AR’s. 7. Arguing or abusive language from Coaches, Players & Parents towards the Referee’s and each other will not be tolerated. U8 Intramural Format & Rules All U8 teams participating in the one day Memorial Day Tournament will play a minimum of three games during the tournament. All players will receive a participation award. One Sportsmanship medal per game will be given to the Head Coach during the check-in process. At the end of each game the teams will vote on and present the Sportsmanship Medal to an opposing player. Failure to be at the field within 15 minutes of their scheduled time will result in a forfeit. . U12 & U14 Bracket Play 1. Each team will receive three (3) points for a win and one (1) point for a tie Each Coach should verify scores by the end of each day. Any discrepancies or inquires need to be made to the Tournament Director or the Official Scorers by the end of each day. Scores for each game will be posted. 2. The following criteria will be used in the case of a tie in total points Head to Head Competition Fewest goals against of head to head Fewest goals against Highest total goal differential Most games scoring a goal. If two teams are still tied then a coin toss will determine the team to advance. If three or more teams are still tied and all are equal throughout the above process the teams will be put into a drawing to determine which team will advance. All decisions of the BYSA Memorial Day Tournament Committee are final U12 & U14 Elimination Rules - Playoffs & Championship Rounds 1. If games are tied after regulation play then (2) 5-minute overtime halves will be played. 2. If games are still tied after the overtime period then penalty kicks shall be taken in accordance with FIFA rules to determine a winner. U12 & U14 Format The Tournament will consist of three (3) rounds as follows: Bracket Round 4 Team Bracket Each team will play all other teams within their group for a total of three (3) games. Note: Teams within a 4 Team Bracket may be required to play an additional game to accommodate cross over games. In these cases those games will not count towards point totals for teams within the 4 Team Bracket. 3 Team Bracket Each Team will play all other teams within their group plus an additional cross over game for a total of three games. In the event that the U12 & U14 age groups have more than 16 teams the Tournament Committee reserves the right to create the necessary number of secondary divisions. Depending on the number of teams in each division, there may not be a semi-final round only a championship round. U12 & U14 Playoff Round 1. In divisions with 14 or 16 teams the four group winners will be paired off as determined by the Tournament Committee. 2. In divisions with 10 or 12 teams the three group winners and a wild card team will be paired of as determined by the Tournament Committee. The wild card team will be determined as team with the best record among non-group winners and will play a team other than the winner of its group. 3. In age groups with 8 teams the two group winners and two wild card teams will be paired off as determined by the Tournament Committee. The wild card teams will play a team other than the winner of their own group. 4. Greater than 4 team divisions, the two group winners will be paired off as determined by the Tournament Committee. Only a championship round will be played; no playoff or semi-final games will be played. U12 & U14 Championship Games 1. The two finalists will play for first and second place trophies following the Elimination Rules outlined above.
