coach for Moeller High School in Cincinnati. In his four years
at Moeller, the team has won back-to-back state championships in 2012 and 2013, lost in the semi-finals in the state
tournament in 2014 and lost in the regional finals in 2011. In
2011, Moeller had no pitchers who broke 80 mph, no pitchers
who were offered college scholarships, and no pitchers who
pitched in college. In his fifth year, there are six pitchers who
throw 90 plus mph, and another five at 85 plus mph. Eight of
his pitchers for the 2014-2015 season have been awarded college scholarships.
Prior to Moeller, Mike coached Mt. St. Joseph College, which
made it to the NCAA regionals two years in a row. He also
coached multiple years at JUCO D-1 and D-2 schools. In the
late 1990’s, Mike scouted for the Cleveland Indians.
From 1969 until 2010, Mike coached amateur baseball during the summer coaching with previous Hall of Famer’s, Larry Redwine and Mike Montgomery versus John Rhodes and
Guerry Baldwin. In that period of time, he has been privileged
to coach eight first-round draft picks.
Administrative Experience
In addition to his CABA duties, Mike has served as legal counsel
to the Southwest Ohio League and on the scholarship committee of that league.
Our congratulations to Mike Maundrell on this Major Award,”

It was in the early fall of 1984 that the managers of six 16 year old teams met to lay plans for
the first season for what was to become the Southwest Ohio League. Larry Redwine, then
Head Baseball Coach at Xavier University and newly named Head Coach of the Cincinnati
Midland Cardinals brought the group together to develop a better organized, more honest and
more competitive league than was then available for quality teams in the Greater Cincinnati
area. Little did he know that before the start of the first season in the summer of 1985, there
would be teams in the 12 and 14 year old age levels that would want to break the bonds of the
competitively restrictive local community oriented Knothole program, or that teams in the
17-18 age level would seek broader national opportunities and a more honest environment
for their teams. Thus, by the time the league met in the winter or 1985 for it’s initial formal
organizational meeting, the Southwest Ohio League consisted of 50 teams in 4 age levels.
In those early years the league was a competitive juggernaut, sending state and regional championship teams to World Series under the auspices of CABA, AABC, PONY and NABF, bringing home national championships every year-and often multiple crowns. In CABA’s initial year
CABA VP for Membership Development Jerry Salyers coached the eventual 15 Year Old National Champions. Indeed in 1988, three of the top four teams in the 15-16 age level went on to
win the AABC, Mickey Mantle (Midland Cardinals, coached by Larry Redwine, Mike Montgomery, Bill Grimes and Mark Hopkins) The CABA 16 Year Old Championship (Cincinnati
Nuckols) and the CABA 15 year old word series (Cincinnati Morgenroth) In subsequent years,
because of the rapid growth of the league and looking for more post season opportunities for
the league’s better teams, the league also initiated affiliations with the USSSA, Sandlot, Simply
The Best, AAABA, Dizzy Dean, Nations and for a short time, Babe Ruth, until a representative
from the Babe Ruth national office advised the league (the largest league in the history of Babe
Ruth Baseball) to never again send one of it’s strong teams to their post season tournaments.
Today the Southwest Ohio League has nearly 2,000 coaches serving between 8,500 to 9,000
8-18 year old youngsters playing on over 600 teams. The league is aligned into three competitively balanced divisions, the most competitively strong (National) division being the
smallest of the three and consisting of teams that make a commitment to play a minimum
50 game schedule that included, along with a strong league commitment, participating in inseason quality tournaments and advancement to national post season play if they qualified.

CABA C.E.O Larry Redwine is the founder and serves as President of the Southwest
Ohio League, while names familiar to the CABA family serve as the other officers for
the league: Jerry Salyers as Vice President, Mike Montgomery as Treasurer and Mike
Maundrell as General Counsel. The league also is served by age level coordinators and
technical staff members Shawn Sowders, Ted Capossela, Todd Montgomery, Wes Girdler,
Andy Teague, Jeff Gephart, Mark Grimm, Bill O’Conner, Joy Bachman, Matt Current,
Shane Sowders, Tony Cappel, Brian Phelps, Tony Stewart, Jude Stepiniak and Ben Stepiniak; along with advisory board members Dino Costanzo, Bill Scott and John Silvani.
The Southwest Ohio League LLC is unique in this world of hired guns and tournament only
teams. “We have been truly blessed by God that we have never had a year where we did not
grow and we have had very little incidence of serious injury”, states Redwine. Unique to amateur baseball and an ever-faithful partner to CABA, the Southwest Ohio League stands out as
one of the shining stars in the CABA Family and is deservedly the 2014 Program Of The Year.
“Our congratulations to The Southwest Ohio League on this Major Award,”
The C.A.B.A. Executive Board.

Don Myers began organizing baseball tournaments in 2007 for USSSA
Baseball. In 2009 he went out on his own with the Travel Sports Baseball
brand. Travel Sports quickly grew to a regional host with teams traveling
to play from 7 states the first year. In fall of 2009 Travel Sports Baseball
partnered with the City of Grapevine, Texas to host events at their new
$18mil dollar facility. By 2010 Myers was hosting the Travel Sports World
Series drawing 75 teams from 5 states. In 2011 the organization was more
than Myers could handle on his own and he hired Domingo Castaneda
as the CFO of Travel Sports. Don quickly recognized Castanedas impeccable work ethic and love for the game. So much so that in the fall of
2012 he offered Domingo a full share of the organization. Since then the
Travel Sports team of Myers/Castaneda have hosted events for CABA,
Travelball Select, Perfect Game and AABC. Their Travel Sports World
Series has grown to “sold out” event with annual attendance from international teams. The team also host the World Cup Baseball Invitational
with the support of multiple current MLB players and the Texas vs World
tournament. Both events have a heavy international team attendance.
Outside of the addition of Castaneda to the team, the biggest influence
turning TSB to success was our friendship with Ben Herrera. In the
few years we have known Ben he has helped us grow into a National
presence, exposing us to opportunities that have given us the confidence
to tackle the big events. For this we will forever be indebted to him.
Our congratulations to Travel Sports Baseball on this Major Award,”

CABA Colorado was founded in 2011 with the goal of providing quality baseball in Colorado. Ever since we have grown
by more than 40% each year. In 2014 we ran over 18 baseball
tournaments encompassing over 60+ teams per event with our
State event drawing over 180 teams.
CABA Colorado proudly partners with several local non-profit
sports associations to raise funds for their programs. We have
given back over $270,000 in the short time we have been around.
In that 270K we helped raise over $28,000 for our Susan G. Komen “Bats for Cure”. These monies provide help to programs
that would not exist without fundraising opportunities such as
tournaments.
We are a diverse team with over 40 years of combined tournament and volunteer experience coupled with a wide range of
backgrounds. We all have one common goal, to provide exceptional baseball to our youth in Colorado.
CABA Colorado is proud to be a part of the Continental Amateur
Baseball Association and is honored to make CABA the Gold
Standard in Colorado.

Roger Tremaine†
served as the Executive
Director of the
Continental Amateur
Baseball Association
(CABA) from May,
1984 - October of 2005.
He attended the original
organization meeting of
the CABA in the fall of
1983 called by founder
and first President
Ron Golden and vicepresident Scott Stewart.
Roger was the
CABA Person of the
Year in 1984. Other
benchmarks and
accomplishments
include Roger
serving as: a term as
President of the All
American Amateur
Baseball Association;
In Honor of Roger Tremaine
President of the Ohio
Association of the
(1939 - 2005)
American Amateur
Baseball Congress;
1997 American Amateur Baseball Congress Executive of the Year; Ohio, Michigan,
Illinois and Indiana State Director of Dizzy Dean Baseball; Colt Regional Director
for the West Region of the East Zone USA of Pony Baseball; Executive Director
and founder of the Central Ohio Amateur Baseball Federation; 1980 Central
Ohio Amateur Baseball Federation Person of the year. He did all that while
further nurturing youths in his “real world” profession as Assistant Professor of
Mathematics and Computer Science at Otterbein College.
During 1958 Roger began his association with Amateur Baseball working in
the Cleveland Baseball Federation program. His association with the Cleveland
organization led to the involvement with various National Baseball organizations.
He served on several National and State Tournament Committees.
Roger’s innovative ideas of round robin tournaments, single age programs,
low cost fees and an all volunteer staff have made the CABA into one of the most
competitive baseball organizations in the World. Having teams participate from
Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Korea, and Japan gave the
CABA instant credibility.
Computers have always played a big part in Rogers life, his development
of the CABA Statistical program and the CABA World Wide Web site was most
assuredly one of his greatest interests.
Roger believed in being a member of all Amateur Baseball programs that do
not limit registrations in other national programs so that more players would get the
opportunity to play highly competitive tournament baseball. This type of thinking
has structured many CABA rules to not interfere with meeting that objective. Roger
was loved and recognized throughout the world, CABA and amateur baseball as a
whole was very lucky to have a friend like Roger.
The CABA national board changed the name of the Most Valuable Player
Award to “The Roger Tremaine Most Valuable Player” and The Person of The Year
Award to “The Roger Tremaine Person of The Year Award”, in Roger’s honor. For
many years, Roger was certainly our Most Valuable Player.
