2013 Harvest
After 27 years, Eberle is planting new Chardonnay and Muscat vines. We are inter-planting (new plants
in between the old plants) which will ensure that we have plenty of Chardonnay and Muscat for the future.
Despite a lack of rainfall fruit, set looks very good this year and the plants are humming along. We have
had no late frosts and bud break was right on time. I am optimistic! But what farmer isn’t? I am looking
forward to another great year and am gearing up for harvest.
Ben Mayo
Mr. Eberle
“Owner and winemaker Gary Eberle began his wine career in 1973 by heading his family’s Estrella River
Winery in Paso Robles (now Meridian). Eberle’s pioneering spirit urged him to open his own Eberle Winery
with the premiere of his 1979 Cabernet Sauvignon and to
co-found the Paso Robles Appellation in 1983. Today, Eberle
handcrafts 25,000 cases of wine annually from his surrounding
estate vineyards and his wines consistently remain one of the
highest award-winning wineries in the United States. Gary is
a friend of long standing and is as nice a human being as his
bottles of wine are delicious!”
Eberle Mill Road Vineyard 2011 Viognier is one of the classics in the genre, managing some elegance without giving up
any power or depth. One third was aged in tank, one third in
neutral oak on its lees; the final third was aged in neutral oak
without lees – an apparently very successful formula.
