@Books can be borrowed with your identification card (for long-term visitors) or a
temporary library card (for short-term visitors). Temporary cards, copy cards and
the requirements of book-borrowing are available upon request in the Mathematics
Division Office.

@The post office is situated near the east entrance of university.
3.Shui Mu Bookstore(7Ut: M)
@It's situated on the first floor in Feng Yun Lou(Jl ~ ifl).
3.You can look up the locations of other facilities, such as swimming pool,
gymnasium, and basketball field in the campus map .
about TRANSPORTATION
Please get familiar with the bus route information before venturing out. All
instructions on bus stops in Taiwan are in Chinese. It is advised that you let the driver
know where you want to get off once you get on.
I.Public Transportation
@TOHSmCHUDOWNTOWN
You can get around Hsinchu downtown (or the train station) by local bus taken at
the stops just opposite to the main gate of university. The fare is NT$I5 in exact
change. The bus is run in every I O~ 15 minutes in peak hours, but more than 20
minutes in off-peak hours.
@ TO OTHER MAJOR CITIES
The most convenient way to other cities is to by train. If you would like to go to
the train station, the local bus at the stop opposite to the main gate of university
will take you there.
@ TO TAIPEI
Buses heading for Taipei can be found at the stops near the east entrance of
university. It takes about one and half an hours to get to Taipei by bus. You can
take Va-lien bus (.li~9 ~ $-JI) directly to National Taiwan University( if j~ *~ ),
and Fe-go buses
(m:11v E ±) to the eastern of Taipei, which is in the neighborhood
of Academia Sinica( If ~1i}f JE r;t).
2.Limo Service(charged)
If you don't speak Chinese, ask a favor of secretaries in the office, who can arrange
the transportation for you and give you some advice.

@You can take good advantage of facilities on campus to exercise, inclusive of an
indoor swimming pool, table tennis courts , badminton courts, as well as outdoor
facilities for basketball, baseball, volleyball, and tennis. You can ask for tickets for
swimming, badminton and tennis in the Mathematics Division Office.
@ There is an art center with regular exhibitions on the first floor of the Second
General Building( ~ -=-ft,'* ~ * it).
@ You can rent spectacular VCDs from the video & comic rental shop in the building
of Shui Mu Restaurant (71\.* ~. ) .
@You can find numerous department stores, boutiques, bookstores and mOVIe
theaters in downtown area.
@ Turn on the radio to FMIOO.7 MHz for ICRT(lnternational Community Radio
Taipei), which is an English-only channel providing real-time news and fantastic
mUSIC programs.

6.Notice
@Telephone numbers showed normally include area codes for domestic use,
beginning with "0". The initial number "0" must not be dialed when making an
lDDD. Take NCTS for example: the office number is 03-5728263. Therefore, the
whole lDDD number from abroad is 886-3-5728263.
@The area code should not be dialed within the same area.

about VISA
@If you are going to enter Taiwan under the 14-day visa waiver, you should make
sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months before entering. If your
passport has less than 6 months validity remaining, you will be denid entry by the
Immigration Service.
@A 60 day visitor visa can be extended twice, each time for 60 days, and for a total
of 180 days in Taiwan. 14-day landing visas or visa-free stays cannot be extended.
However, all extension applications require a good justification and supporting
documents. Beware, some visas issued by Taipei representative Offices overseas
may not be extended in Taiwan. Check the visa for this endorsement.

@ Drinking unboiled tap water from the faucet is not recommended. Most
institutions and hotels provide boiled drinking water. Bottled spring water is easily
available at convenience stores and supermarkets.
about ELECTRICITY
@Taiwan uses electric current of 110 volts at 60 cycles. Many buildings have
220-volts sockets especially for the operation of air conditioners.
about POSTAL INFORMATION
@ The rate for an ordinary mail under weight-desinated is NT$5, and NT$12 for
prompt delivery. Other ways of express delivery are available upon request.
@Postal offices and boxes are set conveniently in Taiwan. Red postal boxes are for
airmail(The left-hand slot) and prompt delivery mail(The right-hand slot). Green
postal boxes are for mails outside the city(The left-hand slot) and within the

about CURRENCY
@The currency of Taiwan is the New Taiwan Dollars(NT$). Bills come in NT$1000,
NT$500, NT$200, NT$100, and NT$50 denominations. Coins come in NT$50,
NT$20, NT$10, NT$5, NT$l denominations. As of 2005, the exchange rate was
close to NT$32 to US$l.
@Foreign currencies can be exchanged at government-designated banks, hotels, and
even some department stores. Be sure to keep the receipts given when you
exchange so that you can exchange unused NT$ before departure.
@Major credit cards are accepted and traveler's checks may be cashed in most
places.
about TIPPING
@It is not necessary to tip in Taiwan. However, a small tip for bellboys or limo
drivers would sometimes be much appreciated.
@Normally, a 10% service charge is automatically added to room rates and meals.
