WELCOME TO THE 36TH PEACE FESTIVAL!
We hope you enjoy the Festival. We think that the programme of events is as entertaining and informative as ever. And as always it is FREE.
The Peace Festival has changed over the years - we have had to adapt to changes in the way that public events are put on. And we have
to sell trading spaces to pay for the infrastructure, insurance and to pay expenses to our entertainers. But, as the picture of you as a baby your
parents keep on the mantelpiece is still you, so the Peace Festival is still the essentially the same as it was in 1978.
One change you will notice this year is the presence of Street Marshals. We have been working with Warwick District Council and
Warwickshire Police to ensure the safety and happiness of all who attend the Festival. We are proud that the Peace Festival attracts people
of all ages and sections of our community and we feel that the Street Marshals will help deter any anti-social behaviour that might affect your
enjoyment of the weekend.
Although the Peace Festival is free to attend, obviously we need money to make it happen. We charge our stallholders a rent, but we also
ask them to pay us a percentage of their takings at the end of the Festival. We know it is a somewhat old-fashioned idea that the richest in
society should contribute more than the poorest, but we will continue to do this. And this is where you can help. Any money you spend with our
traders helps us put on next year’s Festival. Although we work closely with Warwick District Council and are grateful for their support, they do
not fund the Festival. This year we are pleased to welcome local charity People in Action who are providing financial support and volunteers.
The Peace Festival is - and always has been - entirely run by volunteers. We want the Peace Festival to continue, if you do too perhaps
you could join us. We always want new people and ideas. Come to one of the meetings listed below or contact us: [email protected].
The Festival would like to thank:
All the artists, workshop leaders, performers and speakers, the majority of whom have
given their time for free.
THE VOLUNTEERS who have worked so hard over the weekend and leading up to the
festival for their time and ensuring a smooth running weekend.
People in Action for their generous support
Warwick District Council
Dave Steele for programme design
Elizabeth Billinger, Accountant
And to you for coming! Enjoy! . . .

GET INVOLVED NEXT YEAR!
NEXT YEAR’S FESTIVAL: JUNE 13 - 14 2015
How To Get Involved The festival is run solely by a small group of volunteers, we always need
more help! If you would like to volunteer at the festival, help with publicity in the run up to
the event, or help organize the 2015 event please contact the committee on [email protected] or 08453
884207 There will be a Post Festival Meeting on Wed 18 June at 7.45pm at Brunswick Healthy Living Centre. All are
welcome. The AGM on Wednesday 8 October 7.45pm at Brunswick Healthy Living Centre is also open to all, and the
committee will meet monthly from then on.
• Feedback We welcome your comments about the festival, please come along to the Information
Caravan to share your suggestions and fill in our questionnaire.
• Performing at the festival To be considered as a performer for next year’s festival, you will need to send your
demo to PO Box 1686, Leamington, CV311WS by 31st January 2015. We listen to EVERY demo sent in before this date
and select the performers from those available. We aim to provide a mix of musical styles, and also support local
bands. However, we do operate a policy of not booking the same band two years running.
• Running a Workshop or Stall in 2015 We ask that anyone interested should contact us by January 2015. Priority for
stalls is given to local organisations and voluntary groups.
The festival finances itself. To make enough money to cover our costs we have to charge
the stallholders a small fee in return for a stall - this then funds next year’s festival.
All performers play for limited expenses or for free.

Avril Moore
Avril won’t be at the Peace Festival this year - it’s probably the first she’s missed - but
that’s because she died suddenly last November. Avril loved the Peace Festival; she
caught up with old friends and made new ones. Even if you didn’t know her, you quite
probably met her - that older woman who talked to you while you were queuing for a
cup of tea was Avril. She loved to converse with everyone - she thought human beings
were infinitely fascinating.
Avril was a lifelong campaigner for peace and social justice. She took her children

on the Aldermaston marches and in her seventies protested against the Iraq war. Avril
was an inveterate letter writer - especially on behalf of prisoners of conscience: she was a supporter of Amnesty International from its inception. Although
Avril won’t be here this year, her family will be. Her younger daughter and her younger sister will be running stalls - helped by their husbands, siblings and
children. Her youngest grandchild will undoubtedly be having fun and enjoying ice cream. And those of us who knew her will be missing her very much.

PEACE TALKS
Every year we ask campaigning and charity groups to give a short talks between acts on the
Marquee and Bandstand stages. At the heart of the Festival ethos is our belief that we all have
the power to make the world a more peaceful and respectful place. There are many different ways to do this; we hope
that by listening to the speakers this weekend, and visiting the campaigning stalls, everyone in the audience will find
something that empowers and inspires them to actively work towards this. Even if you’ve never thought of yourself as an
activist, just listen and you’ll be surprised how much impact just one small act can have.
