MyCokeRewards For over 80 years, Coca-Cola has been supporting schools and providing resources that help create exciting opportunities for students. The My Coke Rewards for Schools program refreshes this longstanding commitment by enabling our community to support all the ways kids play and make great things happen for our school. You can donate My Coke Rewards points to Roosevelt School, and help us get things like athletic equipment, classroom supplies, learning aids and more. Even the smallest point contribution can lead to great things for our kids. You can help by encouraging parents and friends to register for My Coke Rewards and to donate their points to our school. Go to www.mycokerewards.com/schools. Enter codes from your favorite participating My Coke Rewards products and select Roosevelt School. Fall 2012 School Store The school store has lots of school supplies available plus fun items too. We have Snifty pencils, pencil cases, folders, notebooks, coin purses, erasers, sharpeners, crayons and colored pencils, just to name a few things. Put money in a separate envelope and indicate that it is for the school store. Please do not send in more than $10. The PTO is looking for someone to help run the school store and learn how things operate, and in 2 years, take the lead position. This person should be a stay-at-home parent since the store takes place during school hours. Please contact Lisa Kuberiet at [email protected]. Roosevelt School T-shirts Show your Roosevelt School pride with one of these new Roosevelt green tye-dye t-shirts. They are Hanes ComfortSoft heavy weight t-shirts. 100% cotton. The sizes are Youth small, medium & large and Adult small, medium, large, XL, XXL and 3XL. The t-shirts are $15.00 each. Checks can be made payable to Roosevelt PTO. Baby Food Jars Collection We are looking for donations of emptied, cleaned baby food jars for Winter Fest. They can be dropped off in the PTO box in the Main Office. Clothing Drive Roosevelt PTO is looking into having a Clothing Drive Fundraiser in April or May. Please hold onto any used clothing you have. Details will follow about off-site storage, donation drop off location and dates. Fall 2012 Classroom Parent/Helper Responsibilities The following are responsibilities for all classroom parents/helpers: • NEW THIS YEAR - NO FOOD GOODY BAGS!! Too many allergies. • The Classroom Parent organizes the class parties and purchases the food, craft, etc. The helpers are available at the classroom parties to assist with set up, serving the food and drinks, helping students with craft, playing games. Party plans should be checked with your teacher. • Any food being brought into the classrooms must comply with the school’s allergy policy and “safe foods”. Please contact Mrs. DeAndrea (School Nurse) at 908-7544620 ext. 339 or email her at [email protected] with your food choices and goody bag ítems. A list of allergies in your classroom is also provided. • There are 4 parties per year-Halloween, Winter Holiday, Valentine’s Day and the Year End Picnic: Halloween-Wednesday, October 31-Parade begins at 1:25; parties follow immediately after parade. Parents are not allowed in building during parade for setup. Normally there is not enough time to do a craft, so having a few games ready is recommended (Pass the Pumpkin, Mummy Wrap, Bingo, etc.) After the parade the students are very thirsty, so plenty of water is important! Goody bags are acceptable for Halloween, just watch your classroom allergies. Food, paper goods, lots of drinks and music. Winter Holiday-Friday, December 21-a half day for students, party begins at 11:30. At the Holiday party a simple craft is recommended. Please try to avoid any gluing, use glue dots if you can. Most classrooms also have a pizza party. Pizza Stop and Ciccio’s will offer discounted pies ($7-$8). Please be sure to order your pies ahead of time. Only Pizza Stop will deliver to the school. Drinks, paper goods, music and a game to fill time if necessary. No goodie bags are necessary. Valentine’s Day-Thursday, February 14 at 2:00-This party is an ice cream party. Vanilla and chocolate ice cream, sprinkles, Oreo topping, chocolate sauce, whipped cream are recommended. Paper goods and drinks. In the past, some classrooms choose to give school store dollars as the “goody bag”. These must be paid for and a school store dollar will be issued to your students. If you are interested in the dollars, let me know. Year End Picnic-Date TBD-Normally the first week of June. Many volunteers are needed for food, crafts, setup/cleanup, bounce houses and games. Outside event for the entire school. Fall 2012 • Check with your classroom teacher to determine how many volunteers they prefer per party. More is normally recommended for the Holiday party due to the craft. If there are many volunteers, the homeroom parent will need to schedule the helpers for each party throughout the year. Discuss with your helpers which parties work for them. • Anytime you enter the school you must sign in at the office. There will be a volunteer notebook for each party in the office. Your name must be in this notebook to enter the school for the parties. Sign in next to your name, take a volunteer badge and be sure to sign out when you leave after the party. • The amount of $20.00 is collected from each student to fund the classroom parties. The PTO holds onto $5.00 for each student for the End of Year Picnic. The remaining money is used for the classroom parent to purchase all items for each party. Experience has shown that the Valentine’s Day party does not cost as much as the Holiday Party. The PTO is requiring receipts for all party purchases to verify amount of money spent. Any remaining money is due back to the PTO by March 1, 2013. This remaining money is Roosevelt School money and must be used for the students of Roosevelt. • Class Trips-If class trips are provided this year, your classroom teacher will contact you concerning being a chaperone. • Box Tops-Classroom parents/helpers are responsible for collecting, trimming (cutting along the dotted line) and counting box tops for their classroom. The teachers will be advised to send box tops home in your child’s backpack for trimming and counting before the contest. Please ask classroom helpers for assistance. This is great “free money” for the PTO. The classroom with the most box tops will receive new books for their classroom. Throughout the school year, there are other activities where volunteers are necessary. The Halloween Dance, Holiday Boutique, Winter Festival, Egg Hunt, Book Fairs, Valentine’s Day Dance, Movie nights, Veterans Day and Grandparents Day, to name a few! Please volunteer for what you can. At least one would be great! Requests for volunteers will be sent home for each event. Thank you so much for volunteering your time, energy and talents for your child and the students of Roosevelt School. Any questions, feel free to contact me, Lisa Kuberiet, [email protected]. The PTO looks forward to a great school year! Remember to have fun and enjoy your child’s elementary years at Roosevelt! Fall 2012 Peanut/Nut-Free Snack Suggestion List When choosing a peanut/nut-free snack for your child, it is important to ALWAYS check the label on the package to make sure it is free of peanuts and nuts of all kinds. This list is only to serve as a resource. It is in no way complete and is subject to manufacturer recalls and mislabeling. Manufacturers may have changed their equipment or product line since you last purchased an item from this list. Reading Labels: Some manufacturers clearly state if a product has peanuts/nuts in it while with others, it is almost hidden. Please read the label each time you purchase foods to make sure ingredients have not changed. Do not purchase items with allergy and ingredient alerts such as “May Contain Peanuts or Tree Nut,” “Processed on Shared Equipment with Peanuts or Tree Nuts,” or “Contains Peanut or Tree Nut Ingredients.” Thank you for taking the time to read your labels and discussing the topic of “safe snacks” with your child! Your diligence is keeping an allergic child safe at school!
