The restaurant was founded and is managed by the charming, young and determined Whitney Wentzel, who says her restaurant customers are able to experience her individual five-star flair but with a touch of home so they are left feeling part of the 65 ON MAIN-family. 65 ON MAIN offers a create-your-own tapas platter complete with a wide selection of breads, cheese, dips, veggie-snacks such as olives, and meats. The main course menu boasts popular dishes such as Lamb Cutlets or Loin of Beef in red wine jus served with rough-cut fries and sautéed seasonal vegetables, among others. The drinks menu is extensive and includes Whitney’s selection of locally produced wines, with the additions of classic and designer cocktails (including mocktails). This remarkable Portuguese family restaurant, established 17 years ago, has been reviewed favourably by several magazines and newspapers during its notable existence: it has been dubbed the Financial Mail’s “Prawn Star”, found its way into Eat Out’s Best 100 Restaurants in SA; stimulated lyrical recommendations from Le GastroGnome; became an in-flight representation of South Africa’s most delectable in British Airways’ Horizons magazine; and catered for BBC Food’s Curiosity with celebrated British chef Ainsley Harriott.
