MARTIN GIFTED AND TALENTED MIDDLE SCHOOL BIG RED BOOSTER CLUB
Martin Middle School
Performs at Meymandi Hall
On Jan. 23, the Martin Middle School
Orchestra presented a concert at
Meymandi Hall. As part of the Ovations
concerts with the NC Symphony, Martin
Orchestra Students were invited to
present a pre-concert for the NC
Symphony. The students presented a
well-rounded, exciting concert. This
collaboration between WCPSS and the
NC Orchestra has recently won a Yale
Distinguished Music Award. Mrs. Hynus
will represent WCPSS at the Yale School
of Music Symposium on Schools in June.

Artist Bren Bataclan
Visits Martin
Martin's Visual Arts and our PTA
hosted Boston Artist Bren
Bataclan for 3 days last
week. He held two assemblies
and had every Martin student
making drawings! He then
worked with Painting I and Art
Club students to create line
drawings inspired by words that
describe Martin. Bren used
those images to complete a
large, permanent mural outside
Martin's cafeteria. You can go to

May 5 Chorus Concert 7:00
May 15 Dance Concert “Revolution” 7:00
We had another banner year of people coming to enjoy in the Family Night. Thank you
to all of the volunteers (200+). Some raffle and silent auction items: original pieces
from art students, Ipad mini, 5lb chocolate bar, Zac Efron standee, summer party and
braces!We had food from Chick-Fil-a & Hungry Howies with cookies & concessions open
as well.The big highlights were the Staff vs Staff game, Staff vs Students game and all
the performers, including chorus, orchestra, and dance! We raised over $15,000!!!

Martin Choral Department News and Accolades
Chorus participated in the Music Performance Assessment Festival at the Governor Morehead
School for the Blind sponsored by the North Carolina Music Educator's Association. All choirs,
Men's Ensemble, Women's Ensemble and Honors Chorus all received Superiors (highest rating) in
both performance and sight reading
Honors Chorus has been selected to perform for the 2015 Magnet Schools of America's national
conference held here in Raleigh on Saturday April 25th.
Congratulations to Lauren M, Abby D, Alana M, Korryn O, Maia S, and Victoria C for being
selected to perform as members of the 2015 NC Middle School All-State Choir. They will perform
with singers from all over the state in Greensboro, NC on Saturday, April 25th.
Orchestra Department Events and Recognitions
On March 4, the Martin Middle School Orchestra were featured in Pieces of Gold, the yearly
celebration on the Arts at Progress Energy Performing Arts Center. The orchestra performed
"Music of the night" from Phantom of the Opera along with an original monologue entitled
L'anneau d"or (The Golden Wedding Band) by Nathalie Ilunga from Sanderson High School.
This performance was a collaboration between Sanderson HS and Martin Middle School.
On March 6, The Martin Mustang Orchestra performed at Mustang Madness in the
cafeteria. Our Theme for the event was , "This Is How We Bow!'
On March 7, Students from the Martin Mustang Orchestra travelled to Aberdeen, NC to
audition for the Eastern Regional Junior All-State Orchestra. Our own, Luke D., (bass) will
represent our school at the concert on May 2 @ Green Hope High School. Congrats, Luke!
Martin Dance Company
Martin Dance Company student Nicolette Gialenios won 3rd place in the State for her dance
choreography in the PTA Reflections competition.
The Martin Dance Company and Dance Ensemble have the honor of performing a hip hop
dance routine called "Salute" for the Magnet Schools of America Tour at Martin Middle on
April 23rd.
Martin Band Department News
The Concert Band participated in the Central District MPA Festival March 17 and received an
Excellent rating. The students worked very hard and we are all very proud of the
outcome. Jazz/Rock Band will be performing for the Keenagers at Bayleaf Baptist Church, April
21 and will also participate in the Wake County Jazz Festival May 7 at Salem Middle School.
Auditions for Concert and Jazz/Rock Bands 2015-16 school year are taking place after school
April 13, 14 and 16.
NEWS FROM VISUAL ARTS
Artwork by student artists Carita B. and Jessica Z. represented Martin at this
year's Gifts of Gold event in downtown Raleigh. Jessica won special recognition
in the middle school division for her owl drawing. Congrats!
