Grzegorz Jaroszuk, 1:12 (Poland) 2014 "Kebab & Horoscope" is an absurd comedy. The film tells the story of workers of a carpet shop going into bankruptcy. One day, invited by the boss, two marketing specialists appear, mysteriously nicknamed "Kebab" and "Horoscope". The Old Tree, dir. Farnoosh Abedi, 10’ (Iran) 2014 A story of a conflict between father and son over a seemingly barren strip of land. 3. DVA no survi, dir. Andrej Kolencik & Peter Skala, 3’ (Slovakia) 2014 A surreal video clip full of hidden meanings. 4. Dawit, dir. David Jansen, 15’ (Germany) 2015 A woodcut animation about an alcoholic’s son who is raised by wolves. 5. Who's there?, dir. Artur Hanaj, 4’ (Poland) 2015 A story of a paranoiac who, woken up from a nightmare, starts to hear disturbing sounds from the apartment upstairs. 6. Fongopolis, dir. Joanna Kożuch, 13’ (Slovakia) 2014 A young violinist is given the chance of a lifetime: he is to play solo with a prestigious orchestra of the Fongopolis philharmonic. While there is not much time left until the concert, he cannot find his way out of the labyrinth of the train station. 7. Home, dir. Bruno Pavic, 1:10 (Croatia) 2014 A young Croatian Kreso cannot cope with everyday life. He repeatedly loses low-paid jobs, lives with his mother, and slides into poverty and despair. With the money he earns by cleaning the stairwell he can barely buy anything, not to mention medicines for his mother. His only accomplishment is a vlog where he uploads videos with his reflections on the bright side of life. Paris on the Water, dir. Hadas Ayalon, 30’ (Israel) 2014 A former movie star is given a chance to become famous again. Will she risk her health and marriage to achieve it? Asif Rustamov, 1:30 (Azerbaijan) 2014 Ali is a coach of a rowing team in a provincial town. His son Ruslan is a member of the team, but he is not able to fulfil his father's expectations. Ali's coolness and constant dissatisfaction lead to his breakdown. Ali goes through a midlife crisis and only because of Ruslan he does not leave his wife, whom he criticises for spoiling his son. He finds comfort in the arms of his Polish lover Sasha, who would like to start a new life with him. In the last moment before an important race Ali decides to replace his son with another contestant. Tatiana Rakmanova, 23’ (Russia) 2015 7 year old Sergei cannot accept the death of his parents. He lives in the world of comic books and superheroes, so his brother decides to dress up as Batman. 3. Larp, dir. Kordian Kądziela, 27’ (Poland) 2014 A story about Sergiusz, who - not able to find his place in the family escapes into the world of fantasy. Error 108, dir. Oxana Kosteniuk, 9’ (Russia) 2014 A young man falls in love with an android which he bought a couple of years earlier. When it turns out that the robot is to be switched off, the man tries to change it. 2. Mute, dir. Johanna Thalmann, 26’ (Germany/Italy) 2014 A film adaptation of Stephen King’s short story. Monica escapes from her husband to Venice. On her way, she is joined by an unusual hitchhiker. 3. The Trap, dir. Etienne Constantinesco, 8’ (France) 2013 Eric, a great driver, has to join local gangsters in their daring robbery. 4. Sonne Sonne Sonne, dir. Leonel Dietsche, 15’ (Germany) 2015 A young boy plays slot machines and visits a drug dealer every day. Is there anything that could change his life? 5. Border Patrol, dir. Peter Baumann, 15’ (Germany) 2013 Not wanting to miss a match, two border guards try to quickly solve a serious problem. 6. Similo, dir. Bruno Zacarias, MacGregor, 22’ (Spain) 2014 Year 2065. Andrew Margetson, 12’ (Great Britain) 2014 Jack and Maya meet at an airport car park. They both try to find their cars. Francisco Hervada, 1:14 (Spain) 2010 The film is based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel "Notes from Underground". Alfredo, a librarian, is a man full of anger. He lives with his hypochondriac mother. He frequents a brothel, where he sleeps with one girl, Sonia. After his failed attempt to make friends at work, Alfredo tells Sonia his secrets in hope that she will understand him. The film is about things important in life: hatred, anxiety, pretending to be someone else. The main character is on the brink of disaster and he is not able to prevent it. 19:30-21:00 (MAIN PERFORMANCE ROOM) EMOTIONS – OUT OF COMPETITION PART 2 1. The Road, dir. Nikolay Ustinov, 18’ (Russia) 2015 A boy in despair tries to commit suicide by lying down on railway tracks. Suddenly, a man appears, and he decides to talk to the boy. 2. Mother Earth, dir. Piotr Złotorowicz, 30’ (Poland) 2014 Maciej is no longer a boy, but he is not yet a man. He wants to fulfil his father's ambitions and - like everyone else in the family - become a butcher. He is, however, too sensitive to hurt an animal. 3. Relocation, dir. Yair Fridman, 12’ (Israel) 2014 Helpless Moshe often witnesses the death of his friends in the old people's home. He decides to pack his suitcase and waits for his daughter to take him to Cleveland. 4. Birthday Present, dir. Guy Lichtenstein, 26’ (Israel/Austria) 2014 Jerusalem. Edyta Sewruk, 32’ (Poland) 2013 A funeral reception forms the background for an oneiric, tragicomic story about love and parting. 3. Like Life Without Love, dir. Svetlana Samoshina, 21’ (Russia) 2015 A young actress tries to convince an embittered director that there is still a place for true love in the contemporary world. 4. Transatlantique, dir. Benoit Magne, 19’ (France) 2015 After completing an internship, Farid cannot find work. Together with his friend, he decides to take a cruise to Brazil. Before crossing the ocean, he will have to come back home and face the true reason of his departure. 19:00 (SCREANING ROOM) MASTERS OF FEATURE FILMS Slide, dir. Anton Rozenberg, 1:50 (Russia) 2013 The main characters are above the law. They are police investigators involved in many criminal activities. The strategy they have adopted fails and the team is in trouble. FSB has an informer. The team think they were betrayed by Pepl, who, finding himself in danger, for the first time starts to reflect on his life. His co-workers become his deadly enemies. Neongrau, dir. Jeanette Karstaedt, 24’ (Germany) 2015 Kalle saves Kai's dog, which marks the beginning of an unusual relationship between the two men. 2. Away, dir. Kateryna Gornostai, 12’ (Ukraine) 2015 Even the biggest love may end one day. When this happens, you need ask yourself a question: what's next? 3. Der König Nebenan, dir. Isa Micklitza, 30’ (Germany) 2014 Clara becomes a neighbour of Helmut, who believes he is the king of the whole town. She decides to find him. 2. The Third Room, dir. Suk-hwa Hong, 18’ (Poland) 2014 A middle-aged man together with his family tries to find a new apartment. During the search he makes a big decision. 3. Bear Mountain, dir. Vagenak Balayan, 22’ (Armenia) 2014 In her last will Anush, an Armenian villager, asks to burn her body on the top of a mountain and to scatter her ashes on the wind. Her husband Ernest tries to fulfil her wish. 4. Lost in the Dust, dir. Soran Ebrahim, 14’ (Iraq) 2014 A young Yazidi falls in love with a Kurdish Muslim. Together they look for a priest who will marry them. Some people, however, will do anything to stand in their way. 5. Pratihinsa, dir. Sunit Sinha, 26’ (India) 2014 Lachhmi feels distant from her husband, who treats her like a servant. Against social norms, she decides to fight for her rights. 19:00 (SCREANING ROOM) MASTERS OF FEATURE FILMS The Lower Depth, dir. Vladimir Kott, 2:10 (Russia) 2014 The film is based on Maxim Gorky's play "The Lower Depths", written over one hundred years ago. Since then, the world of cinema and theatre has been fascinated by the story of homeless occupants of hostels who find hope thanks to a pilgrim named Luca. The film's protagonists live on a real landfill site. Every day, they dig through the garbage to find metals, they steal, drink and struggle for life. Despite all that, they love, dream and want to change their lives. One day, a new vagabond appears - Luca. He listens to them, gives them comfort and hope - but people are weak and despite their dreams they are not ready for a change. Natalia Dziedzic, 11’ (Poland) 2014 On the beach, the fates of a balding sailor, young girl and two inconspicuous creatures - a bee and a crab - cross. Trying to satisfy their greed, they all meet at a waffle stand. 4. Roadtrip, dir. Xaver Xylophon, 20’ (Germany) 2014 Julius suffers from insomnia. To clear his mind, he decides to leave Berlin on his motorcycle, but there are still new obstacles on his way. 5. Zepo, dir. César Díaz Meléndez, 3’ (Spain) 2014 One winter morning, a little girl goes out to gather wood for the fire. She discovers the traces of blood in the snow and follows them. 6. Sergey Puskepalis, 1:30 (Russia) 2015 Fedorov, a Russian teacher, has had a hard day. He worked two shifts, attended a meeting, was called on the carpet, and his wife started to renovate the apartment. On top of that, a young stranger follows him on his way home and she snatches his briefcase. When he catches her, she cries and blames him for making her friend commit suicide. She threatens to send her gangster fiancé after him. Fedorov thinks she is crazy and wants to leave her alone, but he does not know that this dangerous acquaintance has only begun. The main character is played by Aleksey Serebryakov, known for "Cargo 200" and "Leviathan". 20:15-21:25 (MAIN PERFORMANCE ROOM) MASTERS OF EMOTION – PART 3 1. Stela, dir. Ainhoa Menéndez, 20’ (Spain) 2014 Claudia and her daughter escape from the problems of everyday life into the world of fairy tales. But do all the tales have a happy ending? 2. The Easter Crumble, dir. Julia Kolberger, 30’ (Poland) 2013 Urszula prepares the Easter breakfast in honour of her daughter's new fiancé. When the daughter arrives, it turns out that her fiancé is thirty years older than her. The breakfast turns into supper, and Urszula has the worst day in her life. 3. Os Meninos do Rio, dir. Javier Macipe, 14’ (Spain/Portugal) 2014 In a small Portuguese town children prove their courage by jumping from a high bridge into the river. Andreas Grützner, 15’ (Germany) 2013 A documentary about the famous photographer Juergen Vollmer, who inspired the Beatles to change their haircuts. 2. Shepherd’s Song, dir. Vahram Mkhitaryan, 30’ (Poland/Armenia) 2014 Khachik, a blind shepherd, lives in Armenia. Despite adversities, he started a family and he leads a quiet life. When it turns out that his son goes blind as well and has to leave home to go to school for the blind, Khachik has to make a difficult decision. 3. Survey about Men, dir. Mateusz Głowacki, 30’ (Poland) 2014 What do women want? This question has troubled men for a very long time. Aleksey Bochenin, 19’ (Russia) 2015 Kostya wants to buy a birthday present for his daughter, but he does not have money. He becomes a taxi-driver for one day. Soon he discovers that this is not an easy job. 2. Hitler in the Opera, dir. Michał Grzybowski, 27’ (Poland) 2014 Aaron, a calm opera singer from Israel, comes to Poland to sing as a special guest in a small theatre. During the rehearsals, he feels as if he is being watched. Behind the curtain, he sees a person who looks like... Hitler. 3. Russian Roulette, dir. Ben Aston, 5’ (Great Britain) 2014 London seems to Lucy a little bit less depressing after she meets a Russian astronaut online. The film was shown at the Sundance Film Festival. 4. Schnee in Rio, dir. Manuel Vogel, 25’ (Germany) 2014 Sebastian, whose responsibility is to escort a valuable painting to communist Prague, finds himself in the middle of a bizarre spy story. 19:00 (SCREANING ROOM) MASTERS OF FEATURE FILMS Once upon a time in Ukraine, dir. Igor Parfenov, 1:35 (Ukraine) 2014 The film tells the story of Nina, a girl raped by Ukrainian policemen, who also kill her friend. She joins the protesters on Maydan Square, where she meets the rapists again. She plans a revenge. The film tells the story of an individual against a background of events which have already taken its place in history. Rape becomes a symbol of abuse of power in the world ruled by corruption and where innocent people suffer. 20:30-21:30 (MAIN PERFORMANCE ROOM) MASTERS OF SHORT FILM – PART 2 1. Springtij, dir. Jeannice Adriaansens, 26’ (Belgium) 2014 A story of a friendship between an elderly woman and a young boy who both escape from something. 2. Soy Tan Feliz, dir. Juan Gautier, 20’ (Spain) 2014 Fran completes her internship at the hospital. She meets a handsome doctor who likes her, but she has to take care of a sick mother.
