This issue’s Series Spotlight is a truly amazing
book series called Warriors by Erin Hunter. I
read these starting in 3rd grade and was
obsessed! They focus on cats prowling through
the forest. It’s interesting and a great read! Get
reading and start to know these cats! The cats
are separated into 4 clans- Shadow Clan,
Thunder Clan (which is the main focus of all 4
clans), Wind Clan, and River Clan. You go along
with Firepaw as he encounters his adventures
and follow the path of him and his clan mates.
AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT
MOVIE SPOTLIGHT
by Izzy B.
by Izzy B.
Jeff Kinney
Jeff Kinney is the author of the popular series,
Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He was born in 1971 in
Maryland. He has a brother named Patrick and a
sister named Annmarie. His dad was in the Navy
and his mom was a teacher. Jeff went to Eugene
Burrows Middle School, and his middle school life
was similar to Greg Heffley’s. Jeff read books like
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume
growing up. Jeff went to Villanova University in
Pennsylvania where he started cartooning. His first
comic strip was “Igdoof”, which was published in
the school news. It was also published in the
University of Maryland. “Igdoof” became so
popular, it was in other college newspapers, too. In
1995, Jeff moved to Boston, where he kept a joke
notebook. When a family education network asked
him to write a kid’s book for their website, Jeff
came up with Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Zootopia
(Rated PG)
This new movie (out on DVD) is wild fun!
Zootopia is about Judy, a bunny who wants
to be a cop. She has grown up to hate
foxes, and when she catches a fox named
Nick pulling off a scam, she drives him to
jail. But before that, he convinces her to
solve a case of missing animals. Watch the
movie to find out if Judy and Nick solve the
case!
(Comic by Nora K.)
“THROWBACK”
TV SPOTLIGHT
by Lili K.
Rolie Polie Olie was a children’s TV show
that ran from 1998-2004. This show is about
a young robot who lives with his wacky robot
family in a robotic world. Throughout this TV
show, the young robot Olie learns many
valuable lessons. It has a catchy theme song
and quite an entertaining plot- you should
watch it!
(You can get DVDs at the library- there are
even some books about this character!)
TRY THIS MAGAZINE!
by Caleb H.
SERIES VS. SERIES
by Lili K.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
introduces you to the life of demi-gods at
Camp Half-Blood. These are the children of
one Greek god and one mortal. You follow
Percy and his friends on their quest to defeat
Kronus from rising back to power. Follow
them throughout this action-packed,
heartbreaking series to watch these young
heroes grow up and save the world!
VS.
The Heroes of Olympus
shows you a new aspect of the demi-gods.
You discover there are actually Roman demigods, too. However, they are the Greeks’
enemy. Will they be able to align forces in
time to defeat Gaea from returning to power.
Can they save the world?
Boys’ Quest
What I really like about Boys’ Quest is that
each magazine has a comic. On the back of
each issue, it says what the next one will be
about and that’s cool. One magazine was
about cool mountains and awesome caves
and I think that one’s the best! You should
check it out!

TORONTO, CANADA
THE YMCA
by Izzy B.
by Caleb H.
When you think of maple leaves, what do you
think? What about Canada? Now pair
Canada with New York City, and you get
Toronto- home of the Toronto Blue Jays and
an amazing aquarium! This city is perfect for
a summer vacation. It’s close by, and the
Royal Ontario Museum is great for dinolovers- it has ENORMOUS dinosaur
skeletons! I suggest you take a trip here this
summer!
The YMCA has a really cool swimming pool
that I go to in the summer. I like reading there
and doing art projects there also. Sometimes
I even play dodgeball in the gym with my
friends. It’s a cool place to go in the summer.
MANG POOL
VERMONT
by Lili K.
by Nora K.
Go to the Mang Pool in Kenmore! At the
Mang Pool, you can swim and dive. There is
also a water slide. The pool opened June 23rd
and is open in the afternoon. Have fun this
summer- don’t just sit inside!
Almost every summer my family goes to Vermont.
Vermont has very good maple syrupmmmmm…. Also it has a teddy bear factory with
very snuggly bears. Manchester has a bookstore
with lots and lots of books! Also there are good
places to shop and lots of outdoor adventures.
There are farms and hiking. There’s also wildlife
galore. The only bad thing is that it is a 6-hour
drive, but the sights make up for the 6 hours, I
promise!

GEORGIAN BAY, ONTARIO,
CANADA
THE STRONG MUSEUM,
ROCHESTER, NY
by Adam W.
by Grailey D.
If you love swimming, climbing and the
wilderness, then this is the place for you! There
are many islands scattered across the bay.
Georgian Bay is in Lake Huron and is riddled with
history such as many shipwrecks out in the open
water. So grab your scuba-diving gear and you’re
about to find some history! I love it there and I
hope that you do too! Enjoy the water!
The Strong Museum of Play is the coolest
museum ever! They have a pinball arcade
and more. They have a Sesame Street place
and a mini-Wegmans and a movie theater!
THE KENMORE LIBRARY
SUMMER CONCERTS
by Lily S.
by Lili K.
One of my favorite places to visit in the
summer is the library! It’s air-conditioned and
the new books that come in are fun to read. I
like to hang out there on the computers or
just read!
Go to concerts- concerts are always fun and
full of life! Some places to see concerts are
Darien Lake and Artpark. Many good bands
will be playing this summer such as the Zac
Brown Band, Warped Tour (which has many
bands playing), Joan Jett, and Blink-182.

Coconut Ice

constantly, until sugar is dissolved.
Remove pan from heat and add beaten egg yolk. Beat

READER’S QUESTIONS
Evelyn Z. (age 10) asked: “How many books do you have in the library?”
 Hi Evelyn- we were asked how many items we had in the library in a past issue, which turned out to
be 77,759 items in all (including books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, etc.). Out of that number- 59,284
are books. Pretty amazing, isn’t it?
Alexandra H. (age 9) asked: “If you add up all the words that are in all the books in the library, what do
you think you’ll get?”
 Wow, Alexandra! That’s a good question! Hmm… anyone ready to do the math on that? Let’s say
the average book (adult section) has 64,000 words, and we know now that we have 59,284 books
in the library- what would the total amount of words be? Can you figure it out??? We’ll have the
answer in the next issue!
Thanks for these great submissions, comments, and questions! We’re always
looking for more artwork, poetry, or comments to add to this section… just put
your submissions in the envelope near our displays! 

Okay you middle-aged muffins, this Teen

love those movies and Daniel Radcliffe is
sooo dreamy.” No, just no… the books are
even more amazing than the movies. It
displays hardships between three best
friends with wizardry. The school, Hogwarts,
teaches them along the way, and is filled with
suspense and danger. Read it… or else!

A man walks into a bar and asks for a glass of
water. The bartender throws it at the man and the
man walks out. He is completely satisfied. Why?
(He had the hiccups… and don’t worry- he didn’t
get hit by the glass- it just scared the hiccups out
of him)

by Sara M.
Guess what Teen Scene readers? We’re doing an app
recommendation! Bee (Lili) and I have thought long and
hard about it (not really, we get kind of lazy). Anywayour choice is Overdrive. You can log in with your library
account and read any book they have in their library! It’s
a great app that lets you read whenever or wherever you
like. And the books return themselves in 2 weeks so
there are no fines!

THE LIBRARY

The Optelec ClearView Video Magnifier
One of the most unknown things in the library is
the giant screen magnifier. It is a big computerlike machine that magnifies anything by just
placing it on the pad! It’s helpful for people who
have visual impairments and need to make print
bigger to read it. It’s located in the magazine
section- make sure to check it out!
Eloise’s Summer Vacation

Eloise is going on vacation from New York to
