Poems and magazines are great “short” ways to get reading in too! Signed______________________________ Date____________ Due September 8th! Name_______________________ Hi Students and Parents! Welcome to the 2016 Summer Reading Program. We’re looking forward to a great summer of reading and fun with On your Marks, Get Set, Read! This program is designed for students K-5th. I have changed things around a bit this year and more than anything want the students to spend time with books. We are very fortunate to have a community library that is open all summer so it is our hopes that you will come to some of the exciting programs we have planned, take that time to use the library and become more aware of all the incredible materials and resources that we have available for circulation. Kids get a sticker for every visit to the Library and at the end of the summer we have prizes for kids who visited at least SIX times. Please ask for help if you have any questions. Most importantly…..Have FUN !!!!! Programs are Tuesdays at 4:00 Check out our updated website…. They have added nonfiction titles and some videos to go along with them. Great games and activities too! **Note to Parents** This program is a guide to help keep your child engaged in learning and reading throughout the summer months. It is designed for a wide range of ages and abilities, so please feel free to help your child as much as you feel is needed. The older students should be able to do this independently, but the younger ones will definitely need help with the reading and the writing. Remember the purpose of this program is encourage reading and library use throughout the summer and is intended to be FUN! FUN! FUN! All booklets need to be turned into me by September 6th with a signature! Prizes will be awarded! Thanks for participating and feel free to ask any questions! Join us for some fun with Mark Austin, owner of Cutting Edge Martial Arts and his Tae Kwon DO class. He’ll be teaching a little about this sport and then will learn a few moves. ________1. Read whatever you would like! Have your parents initial the circle for each time you read or are read to for 20 minutes. Bring your reading passport into the library for Stickers or stamps. July 26th: 4:00 Olympic Relay Races and Fun with Ms. Fancher.! Join us for the final program of the year. We’ll be celebrating the wonderful world of reading and the opening of the Summer Olympics in Rio on Aug. 5th. Try and get your whole passport filled with reading stickers or stamps! June 28th: 4:00 “Magic with Walt” Well known magician, Walt Woolbaugh will be here to perform his wonderful world of magic. Please join us for a great magic show while you discover the “magic” on the shelves of the library. _____ 1. Non-fiction This section is for every time you read Nonfiction…...books with facts. Have your parents initial the circle for each time you read 20 minutes of non-fiction. Then, bring your reading passport into the library for stickers or stamps. July 5th: 4:00 On your Mark, Get set BUILD! Join us for some fun with building with legos and k-nex. Middle –schoolers will be here to demonstrate working with Lego robotics! Just Right Reading! Throughout the year we have been discussing how to find a just right reading book. During library classes I have gone over strategies and one of them is the 5 finger rule. 1. Choose a book that you think you will enjoy. 2. Read the first page. 3. Hold up a finger for each word you are not sure of, or do not know. If there are five or more words you did not know, you should choose an easier book. Choose a just right reading book for you! Parent’s initial each time your read 20 minutes. July 12th: 4:00 Birds of Prey Program One of our favorites. Join the Discovery Center today to learn about local raptors in the area. They’ll be bringing a Kestrel, A rough legged hawk and an owl. A few simple tasks to work on over the summer! ________1. Attend a Library Program YEAH! Easy Peazy Lemon Squeezy! ________2. Check out a joke book….tell some jokes to each other. ________3. Check out a poetry book and read poems with your friends and family. ________4. Check out one of our science experiment books and perform your own experiment. Tell a story around a campfire ________7. Check out one of the library’s Lit Kit. Which one did you get?
