“Just One Day” Calls for Pet Adoptions to Replace Euthanasias

Come see adoptable pets at five Morgan Auto Group Dealerships
TAMPA, Fla. – June 3, 2015 – What does just one day mean to you? A day is 24 hours. It's how we measure how
much time we spend at work. A day can be something we look forward to, a celebration. But in animal shelters across
this country, a single day represents 10,411 dogs and cats euthanized. In 2014, during Just One Day, 13,000 pets were
adopted - in one day.
The third annual “Just One Day,” scheduled for June 11, 2015 is a national movement to stop dog and animal euthanasia across the country for one day. Shelters throughout America are being encouraged to stop killing and instead find
creative ways to adopt out their adoptable dogs and cats. In order to reach more of the public, they photograph their
adoptable pets and post them on social media sites. They reach out to rescue groups in the community, host adoption
events with discounted adoption fees and keep the shelters open for extended hours.
The New Barker dog magazine and Morgan Auto Group have partnered to present a “Just One Day” Adoption Event on
Thursday, June 11 at five locations across Florida, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. We will be featuring dogs from
various Florida animal services and shelters at the following dealerships:
Brandon Honda (located at 9209 East Adamo Drive, Tampa, FL 33619) will host SPCA Florida with dogs from Polk
County Animal Services. E.A.R.S will also be on-hand with their dogs from Pasco County Animal Services and
Hillsborough County Animal Services. The SPCA Florida Wellness Wagon will be on-site.
MINI of Wesley Chapel (located at 26645 State Road 56, Wesley Chapel, FL 33544) will host Humane Society of
the Nature Coast and Pasco County Animal Services with dogs from each shelter. The Pasco County Animal Services
Tail Wagon will be on-site.
BMW of Sarasota (located at 5151 Clark Road in Sarasota, FL 34233) will host Manatee County
Animal Services with adoptables and their Adoption Van on-site. Moon Racer Rescue, who works
with Manatee County Animal Services, will be on-site as well.
Honda of Gainesville (located at 2801 N. Main Street, Gainesville, FL 32609) will host Alachua
County Animal Services and Alachua County Humane Society. Earth Pets of Gainesville will have
their Treat Truck on-site. It's Gainesville’s only food truck, just for dogs. St. Francis Pet Care Clinic
will also be on-hand with vet techs from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.
Honda of Ocala (located at 1800 SW College Road in Ocala, FL 34471) will host Marion
County Animal Services and Marion County Humane Society.

The dogs available for adoption will be featured over the next week via social media posts from
everyone participating. Interested potential adopters will be encouraged to visit the dealerships for
a meet and greet. Special, discounted adoption fees will be available. There will be light refreshments offered. Some of the hosting dealerships will have giveaways, courtesy of The New Barker.
“The premise of what we're doing is two-fold,” said Anna Cooke, editor of The New Barker. “First,
we want to help empty the shelters by adopting out more of these wonderful animals. Second, we
want to show the community that a more humane solution to the pet over-population problem is
possible when we work together.”
John Marazzi, owner of Brandon Honda, was on board immediately. He adopted his dog Zeus
from Elizabeth’s Animal Rescue & Sanctuary (EARS). Now the mascot of Brandon Honda, Zeus
is featured in the dealership’s print and television advertising. Once Marazzi presented the idea to
the other Morgan Auto Group dealerships, they immediately stepped up to the plate to participate.
“We’re committed to the communities in which each of our dealerships is located. Bringing
awareness to the problem of overcrowded shelters is only part of the solution. It is our
responsibility to be more proactive in helping our shelters adopt more animals, and find
more foster homes and volunteers,” said Marazzi. “Thanks go to The New Barker for bringing
this to our attention. Perhaps we could be doing more for the shelters throughout the year, instead
of for just this one day.”
