CREATING SMILES TOUCHING LIVES BUILDING FAMILY Fall 2016 Program Guide SALINA FAMILY YMCA Our Mission: “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.” Celebrating 130 years in serving Salina and surrounding areas 570 YMCA Dr. Salina, KS 67401 785.825.2151 salinaymca.org ABOUT US HOLIDAYS THE SALINA FAMILY YMCA is all about the community we serve. We are committed to and offer programs, services and initiatives focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. If you have a question about hours, holidays or need to know if the Y is closed for an emergency or a snow day, visit our Facebook page or website at www.facebook. com/SalinaFamilyYmca or www.salinaymca.org for the most up-to-date information. Generally we are closed New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. We may have special hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. We are available to ensure that our members and the greater community we serve have the resources and support they need to live better and healthier lives. We do this by encouraging good health and fostering connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. The Y is accessible to ALL people, and financial assistance is offered to individuals and families who have fallen on hard times and would still like to start or continue a healthy way of life. The Y is a volunteer-led, 501c3 nonprofit organization, and any income is reinvested to meet local needs. MEMBERSHIP CARDS Your card is valuable and important. For the safety and security of everyone, we ask that all Y members present their membership cards when entering the facility. Please enter the facility through the main entrance and have your card scanned every time you visit the Y. If you have lost your membership card, a member services employee will be glad to issue you a replacement. VETERANS YOGA In November 2013, Melanie Black (Yoga Instructor) offered a Free Yoga class once a week for any Veteran who would like to participate. When asked why she was offering free classes for Veterans, she explained how much she appreciated what all Veterans had and are currently doing for this Great Nation in which we live because her father and grandfather were both Veterans. That’s one in every five people, making arthritis the most common cause of disability in the country. Joint inflammation can be extremely painful, and it affects more than just seniors, but all age groups. The great news is we can help you manage it. Our trained instructors will lead you through exercises specifically designed to help improve the range of motion in your muscles and joints by using the resistance of the water to improve muscle tone in a safe and pain-free way. You’ll also increase your cardiovascular endurance through a series of gentle water aerobics movements that can be modified to your ability.
