PRESIDENT’S
CORNER
Greetings! It is hard to believe that we are
into the month of February. We are less than
77 days from our first rally at Natural Springs. The first
winter dinner (North) was a great success at the Manor
House. There were 34 that attended. The food was great
and the weather was dry. Our second dinner will be on
February 20 at The Old Spaghetti Factory at 5:00 pm.
Location is 6320 S. Gilmore Rd. Fairfield, Ohio 45014.
I know the TST Roster is up and running on the members
only page. I try to call and wish everyone Happy Birthday,
so the members need to check their information to make
sure everything is correct. If not, you need to let Byron
Songer know so that it can be updated.
Thanks to Bob Oaks for auditing the 2015 TST accounting
books.

Sonya Donahue needs volunteers for food for the first two
rallies. Please send her an e-mail at sonyadonahue@

breakfast or a dinner.
I would like to welcome our newest members to Tri-State
Traveliers. Linda & Albert (Vern) Hawkins, who live in
Finchville, KY, which is located between Louisville &
Lexington. We met them at the Red Barn in 2015. Dana &
Gary Heflin live in Cincinnati. I have known Gary for a long
time. I worked for Gary's Dad, Jerry Heflin, in the early 70's
at Courtesy Chevrolet. Mark Heflin, Gary's brother, was my
Best Man. Gary camped with his parents who were
members of TST and they owned a GMC Motorhome.

This year we’re going to honor our last two charter members with a lifetime TST
membership. Charlie and Marcia Atkinson have been TST members since July 1974.
At that same time, Carl and Barbara Hill became members. To show our appreciation of
their continued support, service, and membership to our FMCA chapter we’re going to
present this award to the Atkinsons and the Hills within the next few months.
Glamarama will be here before you know it. Glama is always in need of volunteers.
This particular rally has a special significance to us since, as you know, our very own
Jane Roush is stepping down as FMCA National Vice President, Great Lakes Area.
Let’s show Jane our support in making this the greatest Glama there ever was with the
participation of all Tri-State Traveliers.
So long for now. February is a short month, even if it is a leap year; I will be talking with
you soon.

Rivers is going to be on a first come, first served basis since we have a limited amount
of sites. We already have registrations for that weekend. The campground is fairly new,
it opened in 2012, and they do have a shelter for us to use. Most sites are pull-through.
There are a lot of things to do in Carrollton.
The registration for GLAMA is out. Please fill out and make sure you volunteer to get all
the perks that volunteers receive.
I am working on an August Rally which will be at a campground 3 hours east of
Cincinnati, which will be a longer trip. When finalized I will inform the membership of the
specifics.
Can't wait to start camping!

NATIONAL DIRECTOR’S CORNER
As part of my official duties as your National Director, I am responsible
for submitting nominees for the position of Great Lakes Area Vice
President. As we all know, Jane Roush is not seeking re-election and
therefore, we are tasked with the responsibility of nominating and electing
a successor. I have a prospect in mind, but as your representative, I am bound to fulfill
your desires for a nominee. If you have a particular member in mind for nomination,
please contact me. I must have the nomination letter submitted by March 7th.

We are currently enjoying our coach “dry camping” in my middle daughter’s driveway in
Hahira, GA. We are hooked up to their 20 amp service and winterized so no running
water. We have sold our California residence and closed escrow on December 28th so
we are officially “full timers.” We will be meeting two friends and two cousins this week
at a Hilton condo in Orlando in preparation for an Eastern Caribbean cruise from
January 30th till February 6th. Nassau, US Virgin Islands, and British Virgin Islands.
Then, return to Orlando and spend a couple days recuperating, watching the Super
Bowl, and then return to our homes. We will leave the middle of February for Thousand
Trails’ parks in the Orlando area until mid-March and then proceed to Perry, GA for the
FMCA Spring Rally. I look forward to seeing some of you in Perry. We are also
anxious to start our TST area rallies with the first one in New Paris, OH in April. It will
be here soon.
For those of you following my California DMV saga, I finally got the full refund. Only
took seven months.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Roush family that they may find strength as
Jane fights to kick Cancer’s @$$. We are all saddened to hear the news but WE ARE
“ALL” HERE FOR YOU.

Sonya serves as 2VP for Tri-State Traveliers. She organizes food for our shared meals,
reserves restaurants for group functions, designs and makes the cleverest table
arrangements, and a host of other things. She enjoys quilting and crafting and most of
all spending time with family and friends. Sonya spent her career as the Executive
Secretary to the Superintendent of Goshen Schools.
Allen is the guy who can fix anything. His family and friends know they can depend on
him to be there to help with a remodeling project or repair. He spent most of his working
years in mechanical maintenance, and as an electrician with RR Donnelly.
Allen and Sonya recently downsized their home to live in a senior village in Milford, OH.
They enjoy the care free lifestyle and are able to park their motor coach behind their
new home. They have been married for 10 years after the passing of their first spouses.
Between them they share 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and will be welcoming their first
great-grandchild in July. What a blessing!
Thank you, Allen and Sonya for sharing your talents and friendship with all of us.

WEB MASTER’S CORNER
To date, only 11 member families have requested access to the web
area exclusively for members of Tri-state Traveliers. From my
experience with other web sites of FMCA clubs, this is a little below
average. While it isn’t necessary for members to have access, it is an
advantage for those who desire to “keep up” with other members.
So, what pages are in the members only area of the web site? Good question. Of
course, a web page is available to see the names and physical addresses of members
as well as FMCA number and coach information. That listing is updated frequently. Also
available from the Roster page is a PDF version of the membership that also includes
photos of many members as well as other contact information. This file is updated about
every six to eight weeks. Financial information from the treasurer is also posted in the
members only area. One other page is present that is a web form to use in updating or
correcting information the club maintains.
To gain access to the secure area for members, go to the following location to request
access:
http://www.tri-statetraveliers.com/access/index.php
Please keep in mind that after access is granted and members login, the computer you
used for access (and the browser) may be configured to remember your access
information and allow you unhindered access for up to two weeks. Also keep in mind
that Windows may need to be reloaded up to three times to get the correct version of
the web site on your computer since some browsers on Windows deliver cached
information instead of showing the most recent version posted.

Tri-State Traveliers’ Tech Tip
This section is open to all members to submit ideas and contributions.
The intent is to include a few tidbits of information about any technology
we’re faced with on a daily basis. It could include new technology, old
technology in a new way, coach maintenance tips, or anything that you find helpful and
think may be of interest to our members.
Air Conditioner/Heat Pump Cleaning – Part 1. Are you retaining water? Maybe
you’re having hot-flashes? Finding it hard to breathe? If you’re A/C could talk, it may
answer yes to its A/C doctor – especially if you haven’t maintained it in a while.
With all the traveling we do, the places we see, the weather we endure and the debris
we encounter, our motor homes are there with us, enduring the same. Imagine the
debris that accumulates on and in our A/C units due to storms, normal driving, rodents
and birds resting on them trying to make it their homes, construction work, and so on.
Sometimes this debris gets cleaned off with the next drive or rain. More often than not,
just a little bit of it gets left behind, accumulating over time. Left unchecked, this can
lead to problems.

Clean the drain. Such was the case with my “under coach” heat pump/air conditioner. I
had always seen it drain when it was operating. We all know this is a normal part of air
conditioning. What I didn’t know was that the water was
coming from a corner of the unit and not the rubber drain plug
that was intended for this purpose. In the picture to the left
you can see this drain in the upper right. The picture is from
underneath the coach, looking up. If you look closely, you
can just make out a water droplet; it wasn’t there before I
pulled out some caked-in debris that clogged the assembly.
That drain is nothing more than a rubber membrane with a
slit. The pressure of the water above is enough to allow it to
drain through the slit. You can imagine, however, that dirt,
water, and small debris will find their way to making a mud
sealant to prevent the membrane from operating properly.
You might ask: “So what? The water finds another path to
drain as you already stated.” That is true, it did. But the
picture to the right tells another story. That bucket you see
there … it’s full. It was from water left over – long after – the
“other” drain stopped draining. In fact, that’s the third bucket
of water that filled to the top. All that water was sitting in the
A/C unit doing what water does best to metal objects …
need I say more? For those of you with rooftop units, keep
in mind all that condensation still has to go somewhere.
Where’s the water supposed to drain from on your system?
Is it really draining from there? It might be worth a look. So,
help you’re A/C stop retaining water – clean out your plugs!
In part 2, next month, I’ll describe what I did to help the A/C
breathe a little better and keep it from getting hot flashes.

For those new to the idea of attending the greatest area rally, the Great Lakes Area

through 12, 2016 at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairground in Goshen Indiana. This will
be the fourth and last time this rally will be held at this location for several years.

2018 in Allegan Michigan June 8-12. More information on both those events is
forthcoming.
The entertainment for GLAMARAMA 2016 is all new. Wednesday, Mike Albert,
performing his Elvis Presley ultimate Tribute will have you rockin to Elvis’ many
hits expertly performed during this show. Mike's style and charisma and his ability
to get the audience involved in the show have proved to be quite the crowd
pleaser. Fairs, festivals, dinner shows and large car cruises have established a
long-term relationship with Mike and his band that draws sold-out crowds year
after year. Highlighting Mike's career was an invitation to do the Miss Tennessee
beauty pageant, with a full orchestra and choreographed dance routines, and a
repeat invitation three years later. Mike's powerful voice lends itself well to every
type of Elvis' music - 50's, 60's and 70's rock and roll and love songs, as well as a
very successful gospel/Christmas show. Since Elvis had so many hits, Mike
makes it a point to keep the show fresh with an ever-changing song lineup! Special requests are often delivered to audiences who are "All Shook Up"!
Friday, attendees will be hopping to the music and laughing at the comedy of
Cahal Dunne, a classically trained concert pianist, story teller, comedian and
composer. He is often referred to as Ireland’s Happy Man. Cahal has performed
with Bob Hope, Tony Orlando and Al Martino. With his Irish to Broadway to
Country repertoire you will be laughing, singing and toe tapping in between the
clapping by the audience.
On Saturday, the Atlantic City Boys are four dynamic lead singers who have
wowed audiences at Las Vegas, Walt Disney World, and of course, Atlantic City!
Now they lend their world class vocals to the rock-n-roll harmonies of the 60’s –
singing the hits of The Drifters, The Beach Boys, and of course, Franki Valli and
the Four Seasons. The Atlantic City Boys encourage flash photography, wild
screaming and rushing the stage during their performances. So get ready to clap
and sing-along because here they come…
As mentioned in previous posts the rally committee is making every effort to
reduce the cost to vendors to attend GLAMARAMA 2016 in order to increase the
numbers of vendors in attendance. We will continue to “pound the pavement” to
better assure you will have a meaningful time at the 2016 rally. To further promote
vendors attendance and yours too, every registration will be given $10 in vendor
bucks, twice the amount from 2015. Also each volunteer will received $10 in
vendor bucks…AND…some vendors who are performing above and beyond their
required duties may receive additional vendor bucks by rally committee officials.
Vendor bucks not spent at the rally have no value SOOOO this means more

purchases by attendees as profit opportunities for vendors. Any additional
suggestions are welcomed. Send your suggestions to Jane Roush
at [email protected], Les Naylor at [email protected] or Jim Koenig
at [email protected].
The rally registration price will again be $215 just like it was for GLAMARAMA
2013. Volunteers will be allowed to arrive as early as Monday, June 6th and not
charged to camp Monday and Tuesday at the fairgrounds. They also will enjoy the
catered dinner on Saturday by EssenHaus. We can never thank them enough for
making our event run so smoothly.
This year there will be 2 catered breakfasts (Thursday and Saturday) by
EssenHaus. The catered lunch on Friday will be served by the caterer Goeglein
Catering so food will be available to all attendees. Ice Cream Social will be served
by FMCA and GLAMA officers along with cake. GMC Great Lakers are celebrating
their 40th anniversary in April and what a milestone for them. They have
committed to be a strong force at our event 2016. YES!
Joined hands and is the image selected for this rally and Friendship is our
motto. This event will prove to do both and show all having fun. Since this will be
my last area rally as AVP my family will be attending. I feel it represents my
graduation of another vital part of my life. Once they have experienced what we do
at Goshen they will have a better understanding of what all this meant to me these
years and the many wonderful memories and friends that I carry with me
everywhere I go. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for your confidence and
support and promise to will wear the blue shirt with my name on it proudly through
August, 2016.
