Cross-Country-Skiing
in the Nationalpark Region Hohe Tauern Osttirol
For Nordic fans there are 82,7 km of cross-country slopes of various types on offer - perfectly prepared trails for beginners, sporty skaters
and also for dynamic classic skiers. Those for whom the day isn`t long enough, can still improve their technique in the evening on the 3, 3 km
long, illuminated Prägrater slope. We want to point out that all ski schools offer lessons and all sports rentals offer cross-country-equipments.

It begins in Hinterbichl and runs together with
the „Isel-Loipe“ till „Toinig“. On the way back
after the „Toinig-bridge“ take the short escarpment and pass 2 farmhouses. From there in
an easy ascent through a landscape of hills
and short descent to the panorama board

It runs left and right the Isel river. Listen to the
burbling of the river and watch the romantic
winter landscape. It starts at the leicure centre
to the Unterfeld, from there in an easy ascent
to Hinterbichl. After a short descent cross the

It‘s perfect for a first expedition. It leads from
the leicure centre to the west to Blusen-bridge
and back to the start.

LOIPE UNTERELD 3,3 km
This flat and illuminated trail is just perfect for
newcomers and beginners. It begins at the
leicure centre to the Unterfeld then pass the
bridge and go back opposite the Isel river to
the start.
It starts in an easy ascent at the leicure centre
and goes further on to the east past a bridge
and a farmhouse. Course: It‘s first flat then
further on in an easy ascent then after a speedy descent past the narrow canyon further on
to „Stamper-Anger“ and to the sports area. A
short descent ends in a sharp left turn and
further on to the wide fields. Then turn to the
right and pass a bridge to reach Bobojach.
On the way back pass the Schneider-bridge and further on the electric power station
Prägraten, then cross the Perlog-bridge and
in an escarpment back to the start.

and leads over the big parking area through
a romantic wood to the Maurer-Alm-bridge.

money‘s worth on this trail from the beginning

Desiring for deep snow and untouched slopes? Then you are exactly at the right place!
Countless tours are on offer in the Tauernvalley with the Granatspitz- and the Venedigergruppe, the Kalservalley with the Großglockner 3798
m, the Virgenvalley with the Großvenediger 3666 m and alle the other tributary valleys. The geographical location, the rural valleys are very
interesting for ski tourers. Special tip: SKIROUTE HOCH TIROL - “The Haute Route of the East-Alps” - Impressive high-mountain crossing
by ski in the midst of the most beautiful mountain tops of the Eastern Alps – including Grossvenediger- 3.674 m and Grossglockner - 3.798

Route: Start at the Kalser Glocknerstreet,
just before the Ködnitzbachbridge (1850 m)
along the cart way. After leaving the forest
go to N then NNW further on along the wide
hillsides „Greiwiesen“ till the lowest point of
the peak flank (maybe you have to leave your
skis there because of low snow.) then further
on to the summit. Downhill a short distance
along the ascent to the 40° steep southern
flank. Recommendable only in good weather and snow conditions (otherwise take
the way like ascent). After the steep flank
further on till the start.
Route: Start at Welzelach (1189m) or at Marcherhöfe (1360 m) along the cart road till the
second U-turn (1440 m). Leave it behind and
go further on along the steep path to Marcher Alm or further on along the cart road till
Marcher Alm (1740m). Then to the S along a
wide ridge through a forest till „Bläß“ (2225
m). Then to the W (ascent: moderate) till a
big hollow further on via a small wind gap to
a small hut (2390 m). Then along the SE ridge
to the summit. Downhill to the S past a big
hollow further on to the E to a big sinkhole. Further on to NE through lightely wooded
area (attention: barbed wire fences) till Marcher Alm and back to the start.

turn left and go on to „Morfa Alm“ and Gumpachkreuz (1884 m) – teriffic view to Grossvenediger. Further on to Johannishütte past
„Zettalunitzbach“ (river). From there to the
NW till about 2500 m then to the left till the
point where you can see the Defreggerhaus.
In about 2800 m go to the hollow underneath
the hut up to Defreggerhaus. Then to the NE
till the „Oberen Einstieg“ (3120 m) – attention:
point to rope up! Further on direction Rainerhorn, which lies on the right side and up to
Rainertörl (landmark). From there to the summit. Downhill as ascent!

before the Felbertauernstraße turn left and
go under the bridge further on to church St.
Alban and back to the start.

Start at church place Huben further on to
Cafe Landerl and down to the sports area.
Then along the Dammweg on the right side
along the Isel river to a bridge. Cross it and
turn left the Isel river past the Faltersee to St.

The exhibition spans several rooms, bringing visitors closer to the unique culture and landscape surrounding Austria‘s highest mountain. It
begins with witnesses of the earliest settlements. The topic „Natur“ deals with the flora and fauna in Europeans largest National Park Hohe
Tauern. The seclusion and the surrounding landscape formed this community. Find more to this point in the room „Die Menschen“. The Grossglockner is not only a scenic attraction it is a tourist attraction for many mountain lovers, too. Its first ascent was 200 years ago. EXHEBITION

Kalser Loop Trail. Total length 19.5 km, running east and west of Kals/Taurer to Kals/
Arnig, with newly constructed suspension
bridge (55 m long and 28 m high) and different theme stations, rest areas, children‘s
playgrounds and view points. Ideal for families with children and older people, as
the route can be divided into stages to fit
everyone. Wonderful Nordic walking route!
Eastern Alps. At the foot of the Grossvenediger
lies the valley head recognised as the most
beautiful of the Eastern Alps. Innergschlöss
is accessible by foot from the Matreier Tauernhaus via a level forest road or on a romantic walkway on the other side of the glacier
stream. Another charming and comfortable
option is getting there by horse-drawn carriage. The “picture book” mountain village Aussergschlöss lies on the way with its Berghaus
Aussergschlöss (refreshments available) and
a lovely cliff chapel. The alpine inn Venedigerhaus awaits you in Innergschlöss (1.691 m),
starting point for the for the breathtaking glacier scenic path.

New Water Vista Trail
In late spring and early summer in particular,
when the melting water fl ows from the glacier
to the valley, you can experience the famous
natural spectacle taking place at the Umbalfälle waterfall. Europe’s first water vista trail
has been completely refurbished, keeping
nature in the forefront. New platforms were
created using steel and larch wood, bringing
the visitors closer to the Umbalfälle. The tour
is an easy hike suitable for children and older
people.
