BREEN AND ABBRING IN THE 208T16
PRESS RELEASE 1/3 03/24/2014 43Nom de la Direction PEUGEOT 208 T16 / PEUGEOT RALLY ACADEMY ERC / GREECE (March 28-30, 2014) BREEN AND ABBRING IN THE 208T16 The Peugeot Rally Academy’s second outing of the year takes the squad to the next European Rally Championship clash in Greece where it will be running the 208 T16 for the very first time. Two cars have been entered for Craig Breen and Kevin Abbring and they will be keen to do at least as well as Paolo Andreucci who secured a podium finish to celebrate the 208 T16’s debut a little more than a week ago. From Italy’s Rally del Ciocco to the Acropolis Rally in Greece The recently homologated 208T16 is already starting to appear in different championships, beginning with the Italian domestic series some days ago, and continuing with the next round of the 2014 European Rally Championship in Greece. This weekend’s Acropolis Rally will see two cars attempt to repeat Andreucci’s excellent performance in Italy, and a podium finish on the complex and varied ERC round would effectively be a first class result. Breen and Abbring to get the ball rolling Factory Peugeot driver Craig Breen faces his second competition of the year after coming third in Latvia. This time, he will be behind the wheel of the 208T16, a car he knows well thanks to his contribution to its development. In the wake of the Acropolis Rally, his busy programme will take him to Ireland for the following round of the European Championship… Meanwhile, Greece will be Kevin Abbring’s first drive in the 208T16. A test session this week will provide him with an opportunity to familiarise himself with the new car, but the Dutchman’s natural speed and determination will also help him to hit the ground running. Kevin takes over Jérémi Ancian’s slot at the Peugeot Rally Academy after his victory on the French 208 Rally Cup in 2013. 2/3 Driver quotes: Craig Breen: “I’ve done quite a lot of driving in the 208T16 already. I know what it’s capable of and I would love to be the person who picks up its first victory. It would obviously be nice if that happened on its ERC debut this weekend but I am perfectly aware that the Acropolis Rally is not the easiest of events, especially with its mix of dirt and asphalt stages which promises to level the playing field for everyone. Bryan Bouffier is one of the big favourites in his RRC car.” Kevin Abbring: “I’m delighted to be back on an international event. This is my reward for winning last year’s 208 Rally Cup in France. The level of driving on that was very high and I am certain that the Acropolis Rally will be just as complex a challenge. I have been working well with Craig and there is a real dialogue between us since we are good friends in addition to being team-mates at the Peugeot Rally Academy. I can’t wait for the action to begin because I want to make the most of this opportunity to show my potential and that of the 208T16!” Craig BREEN – Ireland – 24 years old (born February 2, 1990) 1999-2008: Karting 2008-2014: Rallying (FIA Word Academy winner in 2011, S-WRC champion in 2012) Peugeot Rally Academy driver since 2013 Kevin ABBRING – Netherlands – 25 years old (born January 20, 1989) 2005-2006: Rallycross (Dutch Ford RST Series champion) 2007-2014: Rallying (208 Rally Cup France champion in 2013) Selected to join the Peugeot Rally Academy in 2014 thanks to his 208 Rally Cup France title.
