Habitat Kid - Playtime New York
http://habitatkid.typepad.com/blog/2011/07/discover-playtime-new-york-sneak-peek.html DISCOVER: Playtime New York (Sneak Peek) Saturday, July 30, 2011 Today has been such a happy day! I had an amazing morning checking out Playtime New York, the international trade show for all things kid. It was wonderful to meet so many talented designers and vendors and I was so inspired by what I saw. I can't wait to share some things with you on Monday! In the meantime, I couldn't resist sharing some photos from their Playtime Loves Japan Pop Up Shop. Designers from the show have generously donated some of their beautiful products to KIDS (Kids in Distressed Situations) to be resold at deep discount prices in the Pop Up Shop. All proceeds from sales go to help earthquake victims in Japan. The shop is open to the public, but it closes when the show ends on Monday. If you are in the NYC area, make sure you stop by! They are located at 82 Mercer Street in Soho and are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and tomorrow, and until 5 p.m. on Monday. If you would like to donate online, please visit here. For every dollar donated, KIDS provides ten times the amount in donated new goods for children and families! Here's a few beautiful things I scored on the cheap! Ikat dresses by Ode - $20 each! Adorable pencil case from Kico Kids - $10! London will be using this in church tomorrow... Ready to show my Japan love with this cute tote from Atsuyo et Akiko - $11! http://habitatkid.typepad.com/blog/2011/08/discover-playtime-new-york-part-1.html DISCOVER: Playtime New York (Part 1) Monday, August 1, 2011 I hope you all had a great weekend and that you're now ready for some more eye candy from the Playtime New York show... Happy Monday! I'm a huge fan of Lucky Fish. Every time London wears her LF shirt, she gets compliments. I love their bright colors and vintage illustration graphics. These large pillows and smaller travel pillows totally won me over. They also had some great wall art which was part of the collection. Love those metallic ones! I was so smitten with the fabric used in these garments by little esop. They design the fabric themselves and hope to offer their fabric by the yard in the future. I thought this would be so perfect as child's bedding, don't you? I love that it could be for either gender. I'm kicking myself now for not going back to h-luv and getting some more photos of their soft sculptures, but here's one I snapped of their adorable handmade bunnies. They also had some cute rainclouds to hang on a wall. Zolima immediately caught my eye with their Asian retro-inspired mini suitcases. Aren't those colors to die for? I love the combinations. Woolly Boo was a new find for me, and I was so impressed with their commitment to high quality organic wool and cotton products. Their travel pillows for kids are definitely going on my must-have list for our next trip. Their organic bedding was so luxurious. The sleep sack is available in several different fabric choices, and I like that you can get one that matches your baby's bedding. One of my favorite clothing and accessories brands was there, littl by lilit, a German company that has some amazing textile designs. London has a few of their bags and they get quite a bit of use. These colorful scarves would look cool draped over a teepee, or just hung on a wall - fun dress up clothes! Stay tuned for some more Playtime first thing tomorrow! http://habitatkid.typepad.com/blog/2011/08/discover-playtime-new-york-part-2.html DISCOVER: Playtime New York (Part 2) Tuesday, August 2, 2011 Are you ready for this? Might want to keep a napkin nearby in case you start drooling... Coral and Tusk seriously blows me away. I was able to meet the lovely and talented Stephanie Housley, who designs each piece and then programs them into a special embroidery machine that executes the design onto the fabric. I first came across her work in one of my favorite children's stores, Acorn Toy Shop, located in Brooklyn, where they had some sea + match memory games for sale. Just seeing those was practically sensory overload for me. Imagine my reaction when I saw all of these pillows at once! Another favorite, Atsuyo et Akiko, was also there showcasing some new pillows with classic Winnie the Pooh designs. I also fell in love with their Bonne Nuit pillow - more metallics! Can't get enough. When I saw the lady standing beside the Jess Brown booth, I ran up to her and gushed, "Are you Jess??" Just like a school girl meeting a celebrity. Of course, it was her and we had a nice chat about her work. Her dolls have become insanely successful over the past few years, so much so that she has had to bring on a whole team of helpers to assist in the handcrafting process. Jess still does all of the facial features herself though. :) Jess has also partnered with Atsuyo et Akiko for a special collaboration - I love the idea! I also spotted this fun tapestry hanging made from doll scraps. The folks at Je Suis en CP! must have thought I was so silly for wanting to take photos of their wall display, but it was so cute! The grey color wall matches the grey in London's room (pics of that coming soon...) and I love how the white pops against it. The pinwheels are made of lovely pieces of fabric from their collection. I had a wonderful talk with Little Merry Fellows founder, Mary, who graciously took the time to explain to me many aspects of her amazing business. Their line of baby bedding, blankets and children's products are natural, organic, recycled and made in the USA since 1998 - wow! I really want their Moses basket for my next baby! I also LOVED this woolly sheep! Mary said it could be used as a time-out chair. If I were a kid I would want to go to this time-out chair all day long! These baby blankets from timoun were so colorful and meticulously handmade. What a special gift for a new baby. Mini & Maximus was a new-to-me brand with fun art and clothing. An L.A.-based company, they collaborate with lots of different artists (some even kids!) to keep their line exciting and fresh. These silkscreened posters were only a few of the many limited edition prints they had available. Shirin NYC had some really fun silkscreened art that would look so sweet in a little girl's room. Such cute colors, too. And just for fun... These kids sunglasses from Sons + Daughters really caught my attention. There are just no good sunglasses out there for kids, have you noticed? Everything is cheapy and ugly! I think these guys will do really well. I'm a big lover of neon these days, so these socks from A for Apple seemed to be screaming my name. The colors in this mini satchel collection by Easy Peasy were so fun. Every kid should have one of these! Whew! So many great things to share. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with for next year!
