Exercise Your Brain
We all know the benefits of physical activity, but
don’t underestimate the importance of giving your
brain regular workouts, too. Studies have found that
exercising the brain enhances memory, reduces the risk
of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia,
and improves concentration.
In honor of International Brain Teaser Month, build
your brainpower with some of these fun activities:
Word games. Reach for crossword puzzles, jumbles,
word searches or riddles to enhance mental fitness.
Number games. If numbers are your thing, give
Sudoku, sequence puzzles or math riddles a try to keep
your brain fit.
Memory games. Remember the card matching games
you played as a child? They’re beneficial for adults, too,
and a great way to play with grandchildren.
Strategy games. Chess, checkers, Connect Four and
Tic-Tac-Toe are just a few games that can give your
brain a boost while you spend time with a friend or
family member.
Reading. Already a popular hobby for many, reading
regularly is a good way to maximize your mind.
This list is just the beginning. If an activity requires
you to think, make it a regular part of your routine, and
keep your brain brilliant!

your hearing aids and, if needed,

hosting the Annual Employee
and Resident Talent Show on
Friday, Jan. 22nd, at 2 p.m. on
Main Street. Please see me by
Jan. 15th, which is the deadline
for signing up to share your
talents with everyone.
A big THANK YOU for
contributing to the Toys for Tots
collection and the Boys and
Girls Club clothes drive. It was a
successful event for the two
groups. Also, THANK YOU for
contributing to the Employee
Gift Fund; your generosity was
greatly appreciated.
We are continuing our
Throwback Thursdays, so keep
those pictures coming! If you
have not contributed a younger
picture of yourself, please do so.
We love “stumping” some of our
residents and staff members.
In the Multipurpose Room, we
are going to start a “Jar of
Happiness” for the new year.
Every day, think of something
that made you happy. It could
be something that happened
that very day, but it could really
be anything. Be truthful to
yourself; the simpler things that
delighted you are often the
happiest moments. The jar and
slips of paper will be on the
activity desk. We will read the
slips of happiness on
Dec. 31st, 2016.

around the Dining Room lately.
We have a new chef by the name
of Rudy Cardenas. His
experience has mainly been in
senior living food and beverage
services. His favorite item to
make is desserts.

On Saturday, Dec. 5th, we
attended the play A Christmas
Carol at the Hale Theatre in
Gilbert. We all came home
feeling the spirit of Christmas.

For over 30 years, Will &
Vangie were cattle ranchers.
Along the way they had 4
children. They were both very
involved with their ranching
industry.
Vangie was a realtor who
specialized in farm & ranch
properties. She was a member of
the first national stewardship
program for rangeland started by
Sen. F. Church. She testified
before a Senate Sub-Committee
on wild horses. She was Farm
Bureau wife of the year.
Will was active in Farm
Bureau and various state
Associations for Cattlemen. He
was inducted into the Eastern
Idaho Hall of Fame which
chooses only 5 people a year
from all phases of agriculture in
the state.
Will & Vangie gave back to
the land, the community and
now to all of us with their
talents and friendships.

Holiday Happenings
We had a wonderful time on
Friday the 11th of Dec. We saw
many neighborhood light
displays, stopped at Kathy’s for
cookies and a hot drink, and
sang some Christmas songs
along the route.

Vanessa Booze
Meet Vanessa Booze, one of
our licensed practical nurses.
Vanessa has been an L.P.N. since
2007. She became a nurse
because she loves taking care of
people. She has worked for the
Renaissance since 2012. But
before that, she worked with
Brite Star, a home health agency,
and had a number of clients
living here. When asked if she
ever considered being anything
else, she replied, “A pediatric
neurologist, but I didn’t want to
spend that much time in
school.”
