About Us
From coal mines to moonshine, Distillery owners, Dwayne Freeman and James Hager
have left behind a life underground to do what they have dreamt of doing - making
moonshine. Being from Appalachia both Dwayne and James have a history of
moonshining families. As career miners they decided to put their dream to the test. A
dream became a thought and that thought was put into motion. Appalachian Distillery
had finally been born! It has taken over 2 years to jump all of the legal hoops to arrive
where they are today. At this point in time they hope nothing more than for these
dreams to end successfully!

Our Moonshine
The term MOONSHINE comes from the fact that making
moonshine had to be done “in the moonlight”.
About West Virginia Moonshine
Prohibition in West Virginia took effect in 1914, causing a boom in illegal moonshine production. Since
then moonshine has been made secretly deep in the woods of the Appalachian Mountains of West
Virginia. Whiskey making in the families of the Appalachian Distillery was not just a weekend hobby,
as for many mountaineers, it was their way of survival.
Less than a decade ago moonshine production was finally made legal, bringing moonshiners from the
woodwork. Being southern born with deep roots in West Virginia moonshine history, we have come
about to bring you a superior moonshine with our age old recipes and long kept family secrets.
