I am happy to report that the 2015-2016 school year is off to a great start, and we didn't waste any time this year getting into school spirit! We had more students than ever participate in Spirit Week by dressing up during our theme days. Our football team beat Bloomingdale High School in a 47-13 victory at our homecoming game, and we had a great turn out at the beautiful, Parisian themed homecoming dance. We are also in full swing academically. Afterschool and weekend tutoring kicked off last month. There is a copy of the tutoring schedule in the back of this month’s newsletter. Also coming up is the PSAT AP Student October 2015 test. All 9th—11th grade students will have the opportunity to take this test at school on October 14th. Study guides and information packets were sent home with students through their English classes in late September. There are also lots of important links to information about some of the changes to the PSAT/SAT in this newsletter. Please take a moment to read through them. We are so proud of all of our new and returning Titans and we look forward to an amazing year. We held a Club Fair during lunches in late September, and lots of our students have decided to challenge them- selves by getting involved in one or more of our many interest, honors, and technical clubs. Keep up the good work! As always, if you have any questions please contact us at 7448360. And don’t forget to follow us on Twitter @TBTechHS! Page 2 Meet the New Guidance Dept. Chair, Ms. Fulkroad! We are very lucky to have such a wonderful new addition to our guidance family here at TBT! Ms. Niyama Fulkroad, originally from Upstate New York, moved to Florida when she was in 9th grade. She graduated from Springstead High School in Hernando County and went on to major in English Literature at Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina. After college, Ms. Fulkroad came back to Florida and began her career in education teaching 6th grade in Osceola County. She decided that even though she loved teaching, she wanted to find another way to be a positive influence in kids’ lives. So in 2009, she changed course and became a high school guidance counselor. Here in Hillsborough County, Ms. Fulkroad has worked at Riverview High School and Freedom High School. When an opportunity arose to join the Titan family this past summer, she jumped at the chance, and she now serves as the Department Chair of the entire Guidance Department. Outside of school, Ms. Fulkroad enjoys cooking and baking, reading, and completing home renovations. She has been married for 12 years and has two kids, a 10-yearold boy and a 5-year-old girl. They love taking regular trips to Disney. When asked if she had any words of wisdom for our students, she thoughtfully said, “Every year is important, but if you make mistakes you need to seek help to fix them as soon as possible.” Ms. Fulkroad can be found in her office, located in the guidance office, directly behind the main office.
