Spay & Neuter
Saves Lives
OUR MISSION
A message from co-founder Karla Kamstra
To provide the compassionate solution to end the unnecessary euthanasia of cats
and dogs by offering affordable, high-quality spay/neuter surgeries.
OUR VISION
To improve the health and well-being of cats and dogs by partnering with the
animal welfare community to provide life-saving programs and compassionate
solutions to pet overpopulation.
When I think back over Pets Alive’s long history, I am in awe of the great work this organization
has accomplished. Starting out as an off-site adoption, Pets Alive quickly caught the attention
of our community. In a very short time, we were the catalyst for change that culminated into
programs such as the Puppy Train, transporting hundreds of dogs to regional shelters where
room was available. But that was just the beginning. In 2015, Pets Alive celebrated
its 10th anniversary and 100,000th surgery. I can confidently state that nothing has
impacted the lives of cats and dogs in our area like Pets Alive. While there is still
more work to do, I want to pause and express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you
who have volunteered or donated to this clinic’s mission. Truly, we are making a
difference and are committed to keep moving forward until the euthanasia
of cats and dogs is no longer seen as the answer to pet overpopulation.

Pets Alive provides affordable, high-quality spay/neuter surgeries for
cats and dogs across southern Indiana. In 2015, we worked with transport
partners in 24 counties, though we welcome individuals from any county
who seeks our services. Pets Alive has two of the most highly-trained
veterinarians for high-volume spay/neuter surgeries in the country.

its 100,000th spay/neuter surgery on November 8, 2015.
• Jan Ridgway Spay/Neuter Lifesaver Fund - George and Jan
Ridgway established this momentuous fund to subsidize spay and
neuter surgeries at Pets Alive, furthering our mission to end the
unnecessary euthanasia of pets in south central Indiana.
Wellness clinic
Pets Alive provides low-cost vaccinations and basic wellness services,
including heartworm preventative, flea & tick medication, nail trimmings,
and microchipping at our daily Wellness Clinic. Vaccinations effectively
prevent serious and often costly diseases. They are the best way to shield
a pet and its human family members from infectious diseases.

100,000th surgery
Everyone is eligible for the services offered at our walk-in clinic,
regardless of financial position or county residence. We have recently
changed our hours to Monday - Wednesday 4-6pm and Thursday 12-5pm
to accommodate our clients’ schedules. These limited wellness services
help to ensure all pets in our community are safe and healthy.

Pets Alive relies on the generosity of our community to provide its services. Contributions subsidize
surgeries, allowing us to offer low prices for high-quality services. The average spay/neuter surgery
for a cat costs Pets Alive $80 while a dog surgery costs $150 to perform. However, we only charge
$30 and $60 for cat and dog surgeries, respectively. Our generous donors make up that difference.
