Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic, located at 1333 Maycrest Drive in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is approaching it’s fifth year of operation. In its first year H.O.P.E. provided over 2,800 patients with inexpensive quality sterilizations. The following year 6,472 spay and neuter surgeries were performed. In an ongoing strategy to promote spay/neuter and general wellness for cats and dogs in Northeast Indiana the clinic expanded services in 2012 and the H.O.P.E. for Animals Wellness Clinic was opened. In 2014 the wellness clinic opened five days a week so a third full-time veterinarian was hired. The clinic now completes an average of 90 surgeries every day. This year H.O.P.E., Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control and the Allen County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals rallied together and got municipal leaders to form new community cat ordinances. This allowed our community cat program to be born. Transport Program In addition to serving Allen County residents, our transport program services an approximate 70 mile radius to surrounding counties in need. Relationships have been established with several rescue and humane societies in Northeast Indiana, Northwest Ohio, and Southwest Michigan to facilitate pick-up and payment for services performed at our Fort Wayne clinic. Transport clients include: Blackford County Animal Shelter Defiance Humane Society Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County Branch Area Rescue Coalition Williams County Humane Society Animal Welfare League of Lagrange County Marion-Grant County Humane Society Steuben County Humane Society Jay County Humane Society Wellness Clinic In 2014, the H.O.P.E. for Animals Wellness Clinic expanded in order to better serve the community. The Wellness Clinic is now open five days per week and offers services including veterinary exams, vaccinations, blood work, skin scrapes and antibiotic treatment. The Wellness Clinic served 4,430 pets this year alone. Thanks to a generous local donor we have established a “Prissy’s Fund” in order to assist pet owners who can not afford our services. The money has allowed us to provide vaccines, testing and basic wellness care at little or no cost to those who are in need. Community Cat Program In August 2014, the lives of thousands of outdoor community cats forever changed. Thanks to the hard work of the coalition which includes Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control, (FWACC) Allen County SPCA (ACSPCA) and H.O.P.E. for Animals, City Council members voted to amend a city ordinance which would allow the Return to Field program to come to life. With the Return to Field program, an outdoor cat can be taken to FWACC who then brings the cat to H.O.P.E. for Animals for the spay or neuter surgery. The cat also receives a rabies vaccine, microchip and ear-tip. After recovery, the ACSPCA returns the cat to its original home. Between August and December of 2014 over 700 lives were saved thanks to this program, bringing the live release rate for cats from 18% to 54% in less than six months. 2014: An Eventful Year H.O.P.E. for Animals hosted several events in 2014 including our 4th Anniversary! This event included a yard sale fundraiser that was organized by the employees. Proceeds from the sale helped fund a staff-wide trip to Texas (in the H.O.P.E. bus!) for the annual PetSmart Charities North American Spay/Neuter Conference where they attended continuing education classes and got to know other animal welfare employees from across the country. In May we participated in the Northern Indiana Pet Expo, giving our clinic unbelievable exposure to pet owners from across a tri-state area. Another highlight of the year took place in December when we hosted the popular “Picture Your Pet with Santa” fundraiser. In addition to cats and dogs, this year Santa even had his photo taken with a donor’s pet turtle! Special thanks also go out to all the organizations, big and small, that helped raise money for H.O.P.E. in 2014. We sincerely appreciate every penny that is donated to us throughout the year.
