I am thrilled to have this inaugural event in the place that I call home. The City of Oceanside, volunteers, military and staff are ready to show you their hospitality for this championship race. Athletes will get to swim in the quaint Oceanside Harbor, exit out of the harbor to ride on the fast & flat SR 76, yes we are shutting down a part of the highway just for you! Then dropping down into Transition 2 (T2) near the Oceanside Pier to run along the beautiful beaches on Oceanside Strand finishing with a spectacular view of the pier! I would like to thank the City of Oceanside, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, and Coast Guard Auxiliary for supporting this race and granting us permission to use their resources. Please do so with safely while taking into consideration Oceanside residents going about their regular lives. There is no swimming in the harbor except on race day. Feel free to go to the beach side of the harbor and swim at your own risk. Do let family members know where you are and wear a brightly colored swim cap. While there is no riding on the SR76, prior to the race, you may ride the bike path that runs along a similar pattern. When riding on the roads, stay in the bike lanes whenever possible and be courteous to other cyclists as we have many out there. Also, abide by the rules of the road. Feel free to run the entire run course. Reminder that it is a busy area so take a few measures to keep yourself from getting hurt and be sure to stop and take in the sights. As you are one of Oceanside’s invited guests, please respect and obey the traffic laws during your training. Violators will be cited. You are required to carry proper identification at all times. If you are stopped, you must present your identification to the inquiring officer. Failure to do so may result in race disqualification. Your cooperation is appreciated. 7 LifeTimeTri.com EXPO & REGISTRATION/PACKET PICK UP Expo, Registration and Packet Pick up will be on Saturday, Oct. 19th at the Betty’s Lot (238 The Strand N, Oceanside, CA, 92054) on The Strand. Take Mission Avenue off the I-5 and head west. A variety of parking options are available but adhere to the parking fees wherever you choose. The parking structure on Cleveland and Seagaze is free. Expo hours are 10am - 5pm GEAR BAGS You’ll receive two gear bags at registration: • Black Dry clothes bag • Red Bike/Swim Gear also known as T1 (Transition 1) gear bag Dry clothes bag is for your non-race essentials such as dry clothes, hotel card, car keys (put small items into a zipped baggie) etc. that you will need at the end of race. You’ll drop off your dry clothes bag at the south end of the harbor before you start your swim, just south of the Bike Out inflatable and to your right if you are facing south. You will have your bike/swim bag staged at your bike spot in T1. When you come out of the swim, be sure to put your wetsuit, goggles, swim cap and any other swim materials securely into your T1 bag (red bag) so it can be transported down to T2 (Transition 2) for pick up after this split transition race. We highly recommend you label your wetsuit with your name & cell number. Anything that is not securely put into the red T1 bag is not guaranteed to be collected. Please do not bring bike pumps or personal tri bags up to T1 as they will not be accepted nor transported down to T2. Leave personal tri bags with your bike to run gear at T2 check-in which can be done Saturday or race morning before you head up to T1. We will have bike mechanics in T1. OPTIONAL GEAR CHECK IN Saturday, October 19th athletes may check in their run gear(personal tri bag) early at the T2 between 10am - 5:30pm This is optional as T2 will also be open race day morning. RACE DAY PARKING At registration, athletes will receive a color coded parking pass for one of three areas that are designated specifically for them. Please adhere to the pass that is given as 8 LifeTimeTri.com hotel construction has taken away a number of lots as well as roads to maneuver around. Take I-5 to Mission Ave and follow the directions on the back of the parking pass. Parking enforcement will be out there to guide the athletes to the correct area. There is no parking on Pacific St as this is part of the course and cars parked on this road will be towed. Park in appropriate spaces as any illegal parking will be ticketed. Adhere to red curbs, handicapped and non-marked spaces. Shuttle busses for spectators to get to the Harbor area will pick up in front of the Regal Cinema located on Mission Avenue as well as Oceanside High School starting at 5am until 8am Drop off will be on the north side of Joe’s Crab Shack, head south, then west, and north again to follow the 1/2 mile walk around the harbor to the T1 area. Follow these directions in reverse to get back to shuttles. To shuttle back to the Pier area, meet back at the drop off area by Joe’s Crab Shack between 7:30am - 10am Please note that the drop off area will be at the Regal Cinemas and head west to the T2 area and finish line on The Strand. Always stay on the sidewalks especially near the athletes and keep children close by. If run gear is not checked at T2 the day before, it can be checked in on race morning at 4:30am and T2 will close at 6am Please give yourself plenty of time to set up your transition and to get up to T1 which will open at 4:45am and close at 6:35am Transitions are secured so only athletes with wristbands will be allowed inside. If you’ve lost your chip or swim cap, head to the timing tent located near the swim start for a replacement. Bike Mechanics will be located in the middle of T1. Body marking will be located near the portables past the north end of T1. Please do not apply sunscreen until after you have been body marked. As an additional body marking option, athletes may choose to self apply temporary tattoos provided in race packet. AID STATIONS The bike aid station is at approximately 6 1/2 miles for both the International and the Sprint and then again at mile 18 1/2 for the International distance. It will have water & Gatorade. There are five run aid stations, which will have water & Gatorade. There will be also a Clif Shot Zone at mile 1 (for international athletes also mile 4 1/4). BIKE & GEAR RECOVERY You must have your athlete wristband to check out your bike and retrieve your T1 gear bags that have been trucked down to T2. To retrieve your T1 gear bags, show your wristband to the volunteers. Please exercise patience while the volunteers are assisting you. Then gather your bike and as you exit out, you will be asked to show your wristband as we keep a secured transition. POST RACE MASSAGE Complimentary post race massage is offered at the Beach Community Center (BCC) on the north side of the Pier in meeting room #2. It is a first come, first serve basis for the 10 minute massages after you have finished. 10 LifeTimeTri.com MEDICAL AREA If you are needing medical attention or you are checking in on a loved one, please head to the Beach Community Center (BCC) on the north side of the Pier in meeting room #1. Family members need to stay outside and medical staff will give you an update. Please do not enter as it overcrowds the area and prevents the medical staff from caring for your athlete. ATHLETE FINISH FOOD Athlete finish food will be located at the band shell area of the amphitheatre and open from 8:30am - 11:45am Sponsored by Bull Taco! Your athlete wristband will get you in. Bull Taco will be selling to the public as well so your family members can share in the experience. AWARDS CEREMONY Awards ceremony will begin at 11am on the stage inside the amphitheatre area. LOST AND FOUND Lost and found will be located at the info booth located in Bettys Lot. It is recommended that you mark all your gear as Life Time is not responsible for lost items. Anything not claimed within 30 days will be donated. The course is one loop heading north out to the boat basin and the circling back to the boat ramps: .94 miles for the International and .25 miles for the Sprint. Caution as this is a sharp right turn and there are two speed bumps. Head out to Coast Highway to SR 76. Flat and fast as you will do an out-n-back for two loops for the International distance and just one for the Sprint distance. Returning to Coast Highway then going down Cleveland Avenue surrounded by quaint row houses then dropping down under the train tracks. This is another sharp right and is a no passing zone. Due to this area having a painted surface, it will be carpeted.
