A Higher Level of Comfort
TMI Case Study No. 12037
Made in the USA -Lock Haven University received a grant
for their new-East Campus Science center including the
90,000 CFM penthouse - equipment room. The stipulation
for this grant was that the unit was to be a made in
America. TMI Climate Solutions were ready to
comply due with our ISO 9001:2008. Steel, fasteners,
piping and etc. all needed to be from the United States.
Lock Haven is a quaint city with a population of under
10,000. Lock Haven University is a large part of the
community. The University needed more space for a
science center with science labs and class rooms. They
purchased the old Lock Haven High School and Middle School.
The community wanted to be sure that the buildings’ façade on West Church Street would harmonize with
its historic district neighborhood. The Historic District Advisory Committee also questioned the size of the
mechanical installations on the roof. Zoning Officer Cindy Walker said, “ Most of them won’t be visible from
the street and a parapet will help shield them from view.” Sound levels were, also a concern of the University.
To elevate the sound concern TMI installed into the unit, three rows of sound attenuators to surpass the
expectations of a quiet unit.
The University’s design intent was to conserve as much
energy as possible from transportation costs, energy
savings to room lighting that was programmed for
efficiency. Efficiency and recycling was also, a priority in Lock Haven University. Lock Haven’s new Science
Center required the use of domestic materials to conserve energy, transportation costs and room lighting was
to be programmed for efficiency. As part of the Lock Haven process of tearing down part of the old school,
Lock Haven recycled the current masonry and concrete and ground it up to use on the parking lots and other
areas. TMI with the development of our unit
assisted in energy savings by using heat

Using Quickpen,
TMI was able to
model the piping
for this unit,
minimizing the
amount of piping
and maximizing
the amount of
clearance.
Because our unit would be providing air to the science labs, all air needed to
be clean. TMI used two stations of UV lights. Also, TMI included two Nortec
Evaporative media humidifiers featuring intelligent microprocessor control,
which handles water management, staging, as well as hygienic flushing
and washing cycles. TMI Climate Solutions was excited to be chosen to
participate in such a rewarding project for the Lock Haven Community.
