BARBADOS
NIGHTLIFE GUIDE
In
Barbados, the days are
short but the nights are
long. The sun sets between
5.30pm and 6.30pm which
means
sun
worshippers
have to turn their attention
to Barbados’ other main
attraction; the nightlife.
Elegant Hotels Group has put
together the definitive guide
to where to see and be seen
when the sunloungers have
been put away. Barbados
boasts some buzzing bars
and clubs and here is the
cream of the crop.

ST L AWRENCE GAP
CHRIST CHURCH
Everyone has heard of what is generally called The
Gap. Less than a mile long, this little stretch of road
Turtle Beach:
5 minute walk
has a big reputation with revellers. The best idea
(or 2 minute drive)
is to start at one end and make your way down the
street until you find one that suits your vibe – expect
Crystal Cove: 20 minute drive
to hear reggae, calypso, pop, rock, salsa, R&B and
The House:
25 minute drive
lots of live bands along the way, so if one place isn’t
Tamarind:
25 minute drive
your thing, just keep moving! Don’t forget to have a
snack at one of the street-side food carts on the way
Colony Club: 30 minute drive
– just remember one rule: Barbados’ pepper sauce is
to be treated with caution...
Bars in The Gap start to get lively after everyone has had their evening meal, so
around 8pm, and stay open ’til the wee small hours of the morning. The boardwalk
has just been refurbished, so it really is the place to strut your stuff.
ABSOLUT WATERING HOLE
This rum shop is a great place to start a
night out on The Gap. It’s a lively little
place and popular with locals and visitors
to Barbados. If karaoke is your thing, this is
for you as they absolutely love it here and if
you are too scared to sing, there is plenty of
liquid courage on offer behind the bar.
SUGAR ULTRA LOUNGE
Sugar Ultra Lounge exudes cool. With chic
lounges and stylish bars, this bar is a poser’s
paradise. Sugar’s DJs play dance, reggae,
calypso and club classics on one of the best
sound systems on the island.
Best Drink: It is an Absolut bar, so it would
be rude not to.
Elegant Tip: Sugar has a dress code, so don’t
rock up in flip flops.
Elegant Tip: Pick a song and belt it out,
everyone will be supporting you.
CAFE SOL
It might seem a little odd to have a Mexican
restaurant and cocktail bar in the liveliest street
in Barbados, but then it pretty much sums up
the eclectic tastes of The Gap.
Best Drink: The best margaritas in Barbados
and during happy hour they are 2 for 1.
Elegant Tip: Pick a spot on the terrace
as it is the best place for people watching
overlooking St Lawrence Bay.
HAL’S CAR PARK BAR
The clue is in the name, yes it is in a car park,
but it does mean that you can party under
the stars. A great place for karaoke from
Monday-Wednesday, all other nights expect
to hear a mix of R&B, calypso, reggae, pop
and of course...Rihanna.
Best Drink: Beer or rum, Hal keeps it simple.
Elegant Tip: It is really close to some of the
best street food stalls, so a great stop after
grabbing a bite to eat.
Best Drink: This is most definitely a place for
bubbles!
JAN AND FRANK’S COCKTAIL BAR
This relaxed little bar is a great place to chill.
With mellow music, it is a great place to stop
off with friends. If you want to learn about rum,
owner Frank will be more than happy to oblige.
Best Drink: It is 2 for 1 on cocktails all night and
they are all good.
Elegant Tip: Don’t expect banging tunes to
dance to, this is a place to sit, unwind and soak
up the friendly atmosphere.
SHARKEY’S BAR
Sharkey’s is an understated favourite on The
Gap. Friendly service, great cocktails and a
chilled vibe make this a great stop off on the
way to or from a night out.
Best Drink: The daiquiris are great and are 2
for 1.
Elegant Tip: There are some great nonalcoholic options including some delicious
smoothies.
HOLETOWN
AROUND BRIDGETOWN
The nightlife around Barbados’ capital is
buzzing and plentiful. From nightclubs
to quirky little bars, Bridgetown and the
surrounding area has lots to offer people who
want to party.
Turtle Beach:
15 minute drive
Crystal Cove:
10 minute drive
The House:
15 minute drive
Tamarind:
15 minute drive
Colony Club: JOLLY ROGER TAVERN
Yes, it is a bit cheesy, but the waterside
location just off the Bridgetown Boardwalk
makes this a great people and yacht spotting
location.
Best Drink: Rum, as all pirates know.
Elegant Tip: Every Thursday there is a sunset
cruise and dinner show on offer.
WENDY’S SNACK BAR
A no frills bar and a football fan’s paradise,
Wendy’s has big screens and is football
themed throughout.
ST. JAMES
Holetown is a small town with a big reputation.
Back in the 1600s, this little town was the first
settlement in Barbados and was where ships
would offload their cargo. Nowadays it is where
locals and visitors alike offload their cares in the
two main roads, First and Second Street, which
are filled with bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
Friday and Saturday nights are the best, but if
party action on the west coast is what you are
after, then head to Holetown any night of the
week and you are sure to find a good time.
20 minute drive
DRIFT OCEAN TERRACE BAR
A new face on the Holetown scene, Drift Ocean
Terrace Lounge is effortlessly sophisticated and
has a picture postcard setting overlooking the sea.
With regular art exhibitions featuring local artists,
Drift has a stylish and unpretentious atmosphere.
Elegant Tip: On certain club nights (usually
Wednesdays or Fridays) they do free shots
all night.
Best Drink: Drifting is one of the signature
cocktails and combines tropical fruity flavours with
prosecco, so is great for a sundowner.
Elegant Tip: There are three happy hours: 1112noon, 2-3pm and 5-6pm.
WATERFRONT CAFE
Waterfront Cafe not only has a fantastic
position overlooking the boats and the water, it
also has nightly entertainment including jazz on
Thursdays, steel pans on Fridays and soul on
Saturdays.
Best Drink: The speciality coffees are good
and the Careenage Coffee has lots of Barbados
rum, so is a definite winner.
Elegant Tip: Live music starts early at 7.30pm.
Elegant Tip: Sunset is the time to be there as the
view is spectacular, but get there early so as not to
miss out.
St. Nicholas Abbey
Morgan Lewis
Sugar Windmill
JU-JU’S BEACH BAR (seasonal)
Right on the beach, this is a rustic little beach bar
with killer views and friendly staff.
Turner’s Hall Woods
Best Drink: The rum punch is an absolute killer.
That’s a good thing.

THE MEWS
A restaurant upstairs and a bar downstairs, The
Mews is a bit of a hidden gem on bustling Second
Street. With either a DJ or live band for after hours
dancing and drinking, this small bar has really
attentive staff and a cosy atmosphere.
Best Drink: The Second Street – because you are
on it.
Elegant Tip: Arrive after 10.30pm for the best music
and atmosphere.
SHARKEY'S BAR
Owned by the same fun loving team who run The
Boatyard, Sharkey's Bar is a fairly new in Holetown
and is already becoming a firm favourite.
Best Drink: Go wild for the Wildberry daiquiri.
Elegant Tip: The cocktail list is extensive, so start
from the top and see if you can work your way
through!
SCARLET
Not strictly in Holetown, but just a five minute taxi
ride south, is the legendary Scarlet, a uber cool bar
close to Tamarind, Daphne's and The House. This
bar pops with colourful decor and trendy pop art
on the walls, but the real show stoppers are the
cocktails. Even the shooters are delicious.
Best Drink: Try the Bajan Iced Tea - there are four
different types of rum in it.
Grenade Hill Signal Station
Paradise
Beach
5 minute drive
Elegant Tip: This is definitely the most popular
place in Holetown, so get there early to grab a seat.
Best Drink: Shots
Best Drink: Shark Bite, made with Mount Gay
rum as it should be.
The House:

cocktails are reasonably priced too.

THE BOATYARD (Daytime Only)
On the beachfront in Carlisle Bay, just outside
Bridgetown, be it day or night, The Boatyard is
always lively. During the day, guests can play
on the inflatables in the sea or test the diving
board and ocean trampoline, at night, Sharkeys
Bar cranks up the volume and the bar games.
Crystal Cove: 10 minute drive
LIME BAR
To ‘lime’ means to ‘chill’, so the name of this bar
gives you an idea of what you should be doing. It
is in the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, so once you
get your head around the fact that you are in a bar
in a shopping mall, you should be all set to drink
cocktails and enjoy the live entertainment.
HARBOUR LIGHTS
A place to drink, dance and be merry, it’s
a little out of town, but worth the cab fare.
Very unassuming from the outside, once you
are in, you get to appreciate the beach front
nightclub in all its glory.
Elegant Tip: If you don’t like football, there is
karaoke on Friday nights.
Turtle Beach: 30 minute drive
Elegant Tip: This place is definitely worth a quick
taxi ride, and why not pop into Daphne's for a drink
whilst you are down there?
