The Florida Historical Society Presents an Original Courtroom Drama: Ponce de Leon Landed Here!
Saturday, January 12, 2013 ~ 2:00 p.m. ~ In the Historic Courthouse, DeLand
In 1513, Ponce de Leon landed on the east coast of Florida and gave our state its name. The Florida Historical Society will be commemorating the 500th anniversary of this event beginning with a public hearing to settle the ongoing dispute over where, exactly,
Ponce de Leon landed. Was it in St. Augustine as tradition holds? Is it in Ponce Inlet which bears his name? Perhaps Melbourne
Beach where an historical market erect by the state indicates the landing may have occurred? Or maybe it was on Jupiter Island as
some historians now claim? Join us as we try to settle this dispute through an informative, educational, and entertaining theatrical
presentation. Perhaps even Ponce de Leon himself will testify!
Members of the cast include Judge Belle Schumann (Advocate for Ponce Inlet) and Judge Dawn Fields (Advocate for Melbourne Beach)
CHRISTMAS WISH LIST On behalf of everyone
that was granted their holiday wish, I would
like to thank you for your generous gifts. Your
commitment to helping spread holiday cheer
and compassion in our community is sincerely
appreciated. Each year we continue to advance
the mission of helping over 200 physically and
mentally challenged people.
We have also
touched the lives of many children and made
this an extraordinary holiday season for those
that are less fortunate. Thanks again for your
charitable support.
