Laborer
FEMA THU, Selma, AL Location
Load and unload materials in warehouse. Read work orders, shipping orders, or follow verbal
instructions. Load and unload materials into or from vehicles and install strapping, bracing, or padding
to prevent shifting or damage in transit, using hand tools. Load and unload materials onto or from
pallets, trays, racks, and shelves. Convey materials from storage or work sites to designated area, using
hand truck, electric dolly, wheelbarrow, or other device. Attach identifying tags or labels to materials or
marks information on cases, bales, or other containers. Maintain and compile records as required.
Tasks for a laborer may include but are not limited to:
Receive and ship mobile homes and travel trailers
Reposition mobile homes and travel trailers as circumstances dictate
Inspect mobile homes and travel trailers
Maintain mobile homes and travel trailers
Maintain mobile home and travel trailer parking areas
Load and unload freight and commodities
Load, unload, and relocate sea containers
Manage all outdoor operations and maintain grounds
Operate various types of hand equipment
Coordinate with APO on inventory management
Clean warehouse;
Utilize brooms, shovels, hoes, rakes, etc.
Assist carpenters, electricians, and material handler
Maintain a clean and presentable workplace/station
Movement, storage, and maintenance of THU units; Receiving and shipping support; Documentation
associated with THU units; Trash and debris removal; Moving and installation of office or other
furnishings; Distributing equipment and supplies throughout the facility; Maintain inventory for
warehouses; Assist with THU inspections.
Required skills and abilities:
• Good listening and follow-through skills; attention to detail
• Cooperative, reliable and responsible
• Maintain a clean and presentable workplace/station.
• Accomplish all tasks using best safety practices as adopted by FEMA and DHS as well as adhere
to all local policies and procedures as established by the site manager.
