Letter From the Publisher

With this issue we start our 12 th year of publication, and
like the Grateful Dead said “what a long strange trip it’s
been.” I have met some awesome people along the way and
learned some hard lessons. I have invested more of my life
than I would have envisioned at the start. Although when
I was doing some due diligence, I was told that, that would
happen.
That said it has been 11 excellent years. I have had the
opportunity to interview many folks that I had watched
from a far, among those are Arlen Ness, the godfather of
bike builders, Paul Yaffe one of the top builders around,
Kendall Johnson whose creations not only look cool but
they fly too. I have sat down with Billy Lane and Rick
Fairless. I consider master builder from the area D.J. Weil a
personal friend and over the years we featured several of his
bikes. Killer interviewed Kim Suter, Joy interviewed tattoo
artist Corey Miller and probably one of the most interesting
people I interviewed was Hubert Keller and then the party
at this restaurant Sleek later on, was off the charts.
We have raised a phenomenal amount of money for charity
over the years on our own. Events like our Screw The
Ribbon Show the Green for Our Troops that raised money
for the USO. We have donated thousands of dollars to the
Hartbauer/McBride Bikers Helping Bikers charity, oh and
by the way their rodeo and party is coming up later this
month. The Christmas Parties we put on raise thousands of
dollars every year.
We have put on the Infliction Addiction Art Show for year.
We branched out into the Swap Meet Promotion business
with our TBL Motorcycle Swap Meets. We have held these
in several locations and all have been successful.
Our events have been newsworthy and have been covered
by KMOV Channel 4, WGEM TV in Quincy, IL, The
Alton Telegraph, the Jersey County newspaper. By
creating newsworthy events we bring greater value to our
advertisers. By the time you read this we will have put on
our first Biking Life Belles Ride, a ride just for women and
I’ve heard the Telegraph is interested in covering that.
But all these things are possible only because of the support
you have given us over these years. I thank you from the
bottom of my hear for that support and look forward to
being a part of the biking community for many years to
come. I wish all the dads out there a Happy Father’s Day
and as always I thank you for making us part of your biking
life.

A ten year old boy was walking down the
street when a big man on a black motorcycle
pulls up beside him and asks, “Hey kid, wanna
go for a ride?”
“ No!”, said the boy, and he kept walking.
The motorcyclist pulls up to him again and
says “Hey kid, I’ll give you $10 if you hop on
the back.”
“ No!”, said the boy and he proceeded down
the street a little quicker.
The motorcyclist pulls up to the boy again
and says, “Ok kid, I’ll give you $20 and a BIG
bag of candy if you hop on the back for a
ride.”
At this point, the boy turns around to him and
screams angrily, “Look Dad, YOU bought the
Honda, so YOU ride it!
Q: What do you call a Harley that doesn’t leak

Continuing our Blessings
Bikers are aware of God blessing us. Every year we
begin the riding seasons with blessings across our groups and
communities. We look forward to this time together and plan for
several months for these events. Sometimes we fail to realize the
blessings we receive daily, weekly and monthly during our lives.
God has promised blessing for those to love Him for thousands
of years. Why should His blessings surprise us now?
At the beginning of time, God promised his people,
starting with Abraham. “Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go
from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to
the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great
nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that
you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and
him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families
of the earth shall be blessed”.” (Genesis 12: 1-3) Abraham was
obedient and followed God’s conditions, and he was blessed
over and above what he had ever imagined. We are all a part
of Abraham’s lineage; we continued to receive this blessing
promised so many years ago.
Later, when Moses was leading children from Egypt
and had received the 10 commandments, God promised them a
land of milk and honey. “”So you shall keep the commandments
of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him.
For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land
of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the
valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig
trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, a land in
which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack
nothing, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills
you can dig copper. And you shall eat and be full, and you shall
bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.”
(Deutoronomy 8:6-10) God kept this promise. When Kathy & I
were in Israel, we saw evidences of the vineyards, the fields, the
orchards, the lakes and rivers. Israel today is self-sufficient in its
ability to feed and sustain its people because they were obedient
to God’s commandments. Again, they fulfilled God’s conditions
of his blessings.
We also know in the Bible, that God punished those
who were not obedient. God did not allow Moses to enter the
“promised land” because of disobedience. I don’t ever want to
wonder if I had been a better person, would God have blessed me
or my children, more. Because of obedience or disobedience,
would God bless us? Would he bless or not bless YOU?
Today, we are so blessed with our homes, food, and
living conditions compared to many places in the rest of the world.
But, we take these for granted; maybe because we feel because
we pay our bills they are owed to us, a part of our communities,
and to be expected because of life in America. We need to take a
good look at our lives and determine where our faith is based. I
know that God loves each and every one of us, whether we obey
Him or not. God wants the best for all of us, but we can’t ignore
that bad things happen. God helps those who believe in Him
work through the bad times. He continues to bless those who are
obedient to Him. He promises in Deuteronomy 28: 1-6, “And
if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being
careful to do all his commandments that I command you today,
the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the
earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake
you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall
you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed
shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and
the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds, and the young
of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading
bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall
you be when you go out.” (God’s lists of blessings go another
8 verses – go and read them yourselves.) Our point being: God
wants to bless you and will help you; He is always with you to
guide you if you listen to Him.

Against Child Abuse
A child who has been abused whether sexually,
physically or emotionally who has been entered
into the court system and depending on the county the name is given to the State Attorney’s office and forwarded to the Child Advocacy Center. These agencies then may refer the parents to
B.A.C.A. for assistance and intervention. Anyone can call and talk to a B.A.C.A. representative
for possible help with child abuse cases.
Bikers Against Child Abuse(B.A.C.A.)

Admittedly when I saw a group of burly, tattooed men
at a recent swap met and read their patch I thought
‘how cute, they give stuffed animals to kids.” Yet,
something drew me into doing research on this group
and I soon found I was wrong on all levels and I felt
compelled to present this admirable group of motorcyclists to the public and everything they stand for.
Motorcyclist John Paul “Chief” Lilly of Utah is the
founder of B.A.C.A. He is a licensed Clinical Social Worker and registered Play Therapist with over
20 years in practice, and had noticed gaps in the legal
system that was set up to protect children from their
abusers.
His work was compromised when the offender was
able to drive by the house and intimidate the victim.
He knew he wanted to make the world safer by asking
friends, other motorcycle enthusiasts to help. They
drove to the house with about 27 motorcycles with the
intent that “this might work” to thwart the offender
and to give the child a sense of empowerment. It must
have worked from there on “Bikers Against Child
Abuse” has grown. Thirty-nine states have chapters
in the United States as well as Australia, Italy, The
Netherlands, Germany, Canada and France.
A chapter rides to the house and the child or
children become a part of the “B.A.C.A. family” letting them know they will always be present. A vest with a B.A.C.A. patch and the child’s
road name is presented to each child as they are
welcomed into the family. Each child is also
given the names and telephone numbers of two
B.A.C.A. members that are assigned to them.
Whenever they feel fearful or threatened they can
contact their sponsor.
The adoption phase is critical to enforce a connection
and the physical presence connects friends and trust
which become power to the child. Each B.A.C.A.
member must pass a background check and has
to ride with the group for one year. There are strict
guidelines in place and all members must adhere to
them. Everything is done for a reason and that is protecting children whose trust had been violated by an
adult whom they trusted.
B.A.C.A. members sit in the courtroom with or near
the child to be a friendly face or be a comfort in the
room. Only a few years ago a group of B.A.C.A.
members had stopped at a restaurant to eat. The waitress noticed their patch and thanked them. They asked
why she was thanking them and she said she was a
B.A.C.A. child. As with all of the children “Once a
B.A.C.A. child, ALWAYS a B.A.C.A. child.”

Everyone has heard to Laconia, Sturgis, Daytona
Bike Week and any of a myriad of the big motorcycle
rallies. But for my money you cannot beat the smaller
more intimate rallies. I am talking about good times
with friends, the the kind of fun you can only at events
like Gobble Holler.
This annual event held just a nice little ride from St.
Louis has one of the best locations I have ever seen.
It is hosted by the Statesmen MC and they welcome
everyone to wooded get away. Nestled in the gently
rolling hills of southeast Missouri this lively event
has all types of things to keep one entertained. During
the day there are motorcycle rodeo games and tests
of manhood, like the tug of war, and of course if you
have a sweet ride you want to enter it in Saturday’s
bike show.
come out and enjoy your self.
I went for the first time last year and was truly
impressed by the setup here and how reasonable the
cost was for a weekend of fun. They sure caught my
attention and this is now an event I do not want to
miss. Okay I went there last June so why you ask are
you telling us about it now. Well for one thing we
go to so many events they cannot all make it in the
magazine when they happen.
And secondly it is coming up again, this year’s event
is coming up from June 26 to 29. Mark your calendars
now and head towards Frederickton, you can go for
the day or you can go for the weekend but no matter
how long you stay you will have a good time.
Then in the evenings there is always live music and
later in the night some more adult party games. This
is good fun but not somewhere you want to bring the
kids. Leave them with a sitter or the grandparents and

Beware the Goose (Spring Fling)
The weather finally broke, a finally nice spring day
and with it all kinds of crazy broke out too at The
Spring Fling in Cape Girardeau Mo .The sunshine
brought out bikes, babes and lots of smiles. Cape is
just 100 miles from St. Louis which makes for a great
day of riding. In addition to be being a nice distance,
the scenery makes for a nice ride, but nothing to

R.I.P. Russ Collins

First off lets say this, I know he’s not local and I bet one third
of the readers out there will have no ideal who this is, but buy
the time you are done reading this, you will understand the
importance of the man known simply as RC. Russ Collins
passed from this coil in May and it’s not how he died that’s
important its what he did with his life that is.
In the early days of drag racing you ran either a Harley or
a Brit bike and Russ ran Triumphs for a while in the late
sixties. Then the invasion happened, all those fast two strokes
from the far east started beating the pants off all the other
makes. Russ got wind that Honda was going to make a 750
4 and when they did he bought one of the very first ones to
hit a dealer showroom. Almost immediately that bike showed
up at OC.I.R. and Lions Dragway but wasn’t as fast as his
Bonnie and this couldn’t stand.
Well being an engineer with a mind for innovation, he
designed a four into one pipe system and boom it went a lot
faster, then a 863 big bore kit and a Weber carb setup and
magneto ignition and then he’s building and selling parts to
other people and then those bikes are getting national records
and Rc engineering was born. The bikes grew in size too from
single engine superstrokers to the famous triple engine ATSF.
RC bikes were among one of a group of three badass bikes
that ruled top fuel(back when its was the top of the line and
thirty bikes would show up for a race.) The other two being
the Hogslayer Norton of TC Christensen and Joe Smiths
Sledgehammer double shovel Harley. In fact the bike that
replaced the ATSF the soccer was the first bike to run a 6 sec
pass. If you ran a cool bike in the seventies
or eighties, especially a Japanese motor
likely or not you had some RC parts on it
why because they were the best.
Still don’t know him, well in the late
seventies Russ hired a young guy from
Illinois, to help him run his race show
named Bryon Hines. He had a 18 year
old kid as a hired gun rider named Terry
Vance(ringing bells now) and after too
many championships, on numerous
different bikes and with three generations
of riders Vance and Hines is still the
dominant performance pipe company in
the world, not RC engineering. No Vance
and Hines to quote Paul Harvey now you
know the rest of the story. Rest in a very
fast peace Russ Collins may heavens race
way always be tacky and the light always
be green.
