There will be a ribbon cutting at 10 am. The “time capsule” will be reburied at 10:30 am. Fun children’s crafts, treats, and tours will be available. NSLD/Roscoe Renovations Renovations have started at NSLD/ Roscoe. The library will receive an expanded parking lot and new HVAC. It now has an updated, faster Internet service and Wi-Fi. The Library Board and staff appreciate the patience and support of the community during this extensive renovation. For more information about the renovation, visit the NSLD website. Voter Registration To vote in the upcoming November election, you must register by October 11. You can register at NSLD during library hours or during these times: NSLD/Loves Park Tuesday, October 4 • 6 pm-8 pm NSLD/Roscoe Wednesday, October 5 • 5 pm-7 pm Food For Fines September 12-17, 2016 For each non-perishable food item brought in, NSLD will waive $1.00 off of your NSLD fines. Library Hours With an NSLD library card you get access to bestsellers, programs for all ages, free eBooks/eAudiobooks, eMagazines, DVDs, CDs, and much more! Monday-Thursday 9 am-8:30 pm Friday-Saturday 9 am-5:30 pm Sunday (January-April) 1 pm-5 pm Library cards are free to residents who live in the district. To apply, you must have proof of current address and children under 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. If required, register at Children’s Services at the library where the event is held. Reading Buddies NSLD offers a program just for second and third grade readers to practice reading skills. Each child is paired with a high school student once a week to enjoy reading and learning games. CPR Workshop Learn infant, child, and adult CPR techniques plus how to take care of a victim who is choking. Course taught by Mercy Health Systems in conjunction with the American Heart Association. These databases offer more in-depth and extensive resources than just “googling.” Use the databases from home 24/7 or at the library. Just go to the NSLD website and click “Online Reference Databases.” You will need your library card and PIN. For more information, ask at the Reference desk. Databases include Chilton, HeritageQuest, Tumblebooks, and more. Check them out! New faster Internet and free Wi-Fi service at both libraries! Presenter is a recognized scholar and lecturer on Camp Grant and Rockford’s military involvement.
