“LSUHSC is very near and
dear to my heart, and always
will be. I realize that a large
part of my success can be attributed to what I obtained from
LSUHSC in my early undergraduate and graduate programs. As a
faculty member and researcher at UTMB,
I wholeheartedly understand the need to
have classroom supplies and learning resources for the students. My husband and
I would like to give back in some way. If
the full body skeleton has not already been
purchased, we would be willing to do so.”

Student learning experiences are enhanced through contributions from our alumni and friends. In 2011, alumni received an
email from the School of Allied Health Professions requesting
support for classroom equipment. In response to the request
Dr. Barbara Doucet (1984) purchased a full body skeleton for
the Occupational Therapy Department, and Michele Spector
and Dr. Laurie Schmidt, both 2004 graduates, contributed to
the purchase of a general hearing instrument spin station for
the Audiology program. A spin station is used for cleaning
custom hearing aids, a routine service that audiologists provide
to patients.
“Having access to the skeleton has given the OT students a realistic visual aid which has promoted our ability to apply our knowledge of human anatomy and movement learned in anatomy and
kinesiology courses.”

“The opportunity to learn with such a realistic human skeleton
was an effective study tool last summer for our anatomy and kinesiology classes. It is also very helpful this semester as we learn
about orthopedic conditions. The ability to study using the accurately depicted structures of the skeleton’s bones and various tendon insertions is a valuable asset to our classroom."

bone, or their relationships within the body.”

training that is a hallmark of LSUHSC’s
Doctor of Audiology program. As an
alumnae, I believe it is important to
support a graduate program that provides
the same solid foundation for the careers
of future graduates as it did for my
audiology career.

LSUHSC on-campus audiology
clinic prior to being assigned to
an off-site practicum. I felt it
would be beneficial to have this
equipment available so the students would
be better prepared to service hearing aids
during off-site clinical practicum as well as
after graduation.”
