Elections of the American president
Intoduction:
In the United States of America there are fifteen states.
The capital city is Washington D.C. Where there is the White House where the American
president lives. The flag of the USA is called “Stars and Stripes” because the stars
represent the fifty states of the USA and the thirteen stripes represent the first thirteen
British colonies. Their motto is “in God We Trust”.
The three requirements to be allowed to be a candidate in the American presidential
elections are to be a natural born citizen, to be a resident for fourteen years and to be
thirty-five years old or older. The people in the USA elect their president every four years.
An American president can serve two terms of office.
The presidential elections are always held the first Tuesday after the first Monday of
November. The voters do not actually elect the American president: when they punch their
ballots for President, they actually vote for a slate of electors (=the Electoral College= the
electors =the state representatives). Electors then cast the votes that decide who becomes
President of the United States (when citizens exercise their right to vote, they determine the
electoral vote for their state).

on the day of the vote, to be registered to vote, to be a United States citizen. The two most
powerful political parties in the USA are the democratic party and their emblem is a
donkey. The other party is the Republican Party their emblem is an elephant.
Barack obama is the candidate for the democratic Party. He was born the fourth of August
in 1961. He is 47 years old. He was born in Honolulu Hawaii. He grew up in Hawaii and for
a few years in Indonesia.
Now he lives in the state of Illinois in Kenwood, Chicago.
He was raised by his mother and later by his grandparents. He studied law in Harvard in
1991 which is the best in law school the USA before he graduated from Columbia University.
Barack is a lawyer. His slogan is “I’m asking you to believe” and “Yes We Can”. His wife,
Michelle Robinson, is a lawyer too. She is 44 years old.
They have got two children .Their name are Malia and Sasha.
His vice president is Joe Biden. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the twentieth of
November in 1942.He is married with Jill Biden. He is a US senator. He is a democrat on the
foreign relations committee. He has a lot of political experience.
John McCain is the candidate for the Republican Party. He was born the twenty-ninth of
November in 1936. He is 72 years old. He was born in Coco Solo, it’s in Panama. He grew up
in New London, Connecticut and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. In his teens he stayed in Virginia
with his parents. He lives in Arizona. His parents are John S. McCain (1911-1981) and
Roberta (Wright) McCain who was born in 1912. His father was a navy admiral. John
McCain was a student in the Academy of Annapolis.
He was navy aviator (US Navy) too but he is retired. His slogan is “Reform * Prosperity *
Peace”.
He divorced from Carol Sheep and now he is married to Cindy McCain a native Arizonan,
mother of four children who founded and ran the American Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT)
from 1988 to 1995. She is 54 years old.
He has seven children but together with Cindy they have four children: Meghan, Jack, Jimmy,
and Bridget and four grandchildren. Sarah Palin who is his chosen vice- president was born
the eleventh of February in 1964. She is governor of Alaska. She is married with Todd Palin,
a fisherman in Bristol Bay. They have five children.

and 56 888 006for the Republican Party.
Barack Obama was elected by 349 state electors and McCain by 163.
Obama needed to have 270 votes to be elected. In the Senate there are
57 representatives of the Democratic Party and 40 for the Republican
Party. In the House of Representatives there are 254 representatives of
the Democratic Party and 173 for the Republican Party.

August the 29th in 1936, so he is 72 years old. He was born in
Coco-solo, in the canal zone of Panama; and he grew up in New
London. Now he lives in Phoenix, Arizona. He fought in the
Vietnam War where he was a naval aviator. Now he is a
politician. His slogan is: “Reform, Prosperity and Peace”
His first wife was Carol Shepp, he got married in 1965, but he
divorced her and now, his wife is Cindy McCain, he got married
in 1980. He has got 4 children. Their names are Douglas,
Andrew, Sidney, Meghane; and his grandchildren are John
Sidney IV, James and Bridget. He chose Sara Palin to be his
vice president, who is a Republican and the governor of Alaska.
And the winner is:
The 4th November, almost 65 millions people voted for Obama and 57 millions
people voted for McCain.
The Democratic Party has the majority of representatives in the Senate: 57
senators for the Democratic party, and 40 senators for the Republican Party.
The Democratic Party has the majority of representatives in the House of
Representatives too: 364 for the Democratic party and 174 for the Republican
party.

on August the fourth, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii in the USA. Then he grew up in Jakarta and
Hawaii.
He lives in Kenwood in Chicago which is in Illinois with his wife Michelle Obama who is 44
years old and who is a lawyer.
He also has two children who are Malia Ann and Natasha (“Sasha”).
Barack Obama’s parents are Barack Obama Sr. and Stanley Ann Dunham but they got
divorced when he was two years old.
When Barack was young he went to the University of Hawaii.
He is a politician and a lawyer. And the slogan in his campaign is “Yes, we can” and “I’m
asking you to believe”.
His vice president is Joseph Robinette Biden who was born in Pennsylvania in the USA on
November 20th 1942. He is 65 years old and he is a senator and a politician.
He has four children who are Joseph, Robert Hunter, Naomi Christina and Ashley Blazer. His
wife is Jill Tracy Jacobs but his first wife died in an accident.
The candidate for the Republican Party is John McCain. He is 72 years old and he was born
on August 29th 1936 in Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone. Then he grew
up in the Pacific and in the USA.
He lives in Phoenix, Arizona, USA with his wife Cindy McCain who is 54 years old and who
ran the American Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT) from 1988 to 1995 ( a charity).
He has seven children who are Douglas, Andrew, Sidney, Meghan, John Sidney IV “Jack”,
James “Jimmy” and Bridget. And he has four grandchildren.
His parents are John S. McCain and Roberta McCain.

She is sportscasters, a homemaker and a politician. She has five children who are Track,
Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. And her spouse is Todd Palin.

The second candidate is John McCain (Republican Party). He
was born on the 29 of August, 1936 in Coco Solo in Panamá and he grew up in the military
base of Coco Solo and New London, Connecticut, Pearl Harbor and Hawaii. He lives in
Phoenix in Arizona. His father is John S. “Jack” McCain and his mother is Roberta Wright
McCain. John was a pilot and today he is a senator. His slogan is “reform + prosperity +
peace”. His wife is Cindy McCain and she is 54 years old. They have seven children and four
grandchildren. His vice-president is Sarah Palin. She was born on the 11 of February, 1964 so
she is 44 years old. She was born in Sandpoint in Idaho. Her father is Charles Heath and her
mother is Sarah Sally Heath.
The candidate who was elected is Barack Obama. Obama won 52.5% of the votes (64,629,649)
and John McCain 46.2% (56,888,006). The Democratic Party has a majority of
representatives (364) in the senate. There are 100 senators and 42 are republicans and 57 are
democrats. Obama will become the new president on 20 of January.
