partnership between the Virginia
Department of Transportation and
Transurban, the 495 Express Lanes
opened early and on-budget in late
2012. The 495 Express Lanes offer
travelers a faster, more predictable
trip on the Virginia side of the Capital
Beltway. Active management of
the Express Lanes keeps
travelers moving.
The 95 Express Lanes opened ontime and on-budget in December
2014. Also delivered through a
public-private partnership, the
project converted a stretch of
HOV lanes to Express Lanes and
extended the roadway. Together, the
495 and 95 Express Lanes provide
travelers an option for a reliable trip
for more than 40 miles in one the
nation’s most congested areas.
