At the International ASA Conference Chapter Members John Matthies, ASA (MTS) and Patricia Atwood, AM (PP) served as Conference Discipline Chairmen, and many Chicago Chapter members were conference speakers. The hoped for introduction into the industrial auction world and the level of sophistication that industry has reached, was evident to all ASA attendees. October 16th Chapter Meeting in Barrington Hills continued from page 1 unique event! Thursday afternoon will include a private visit to the Barrington Hills country estate of Chicago business leader, Jasper Sanfilippo, where we can tour his famous collection of mechanical musical instruments. Did you know that there is an entire ASA discipline devoted to this type of instrument? Come learn & earn CPE credits for your attendance. ASA members examine a Cincinnati mechanical shear at MTS auctiion event on September 16, 2008. Michael Ackerman of Perfection Plant Liquidations, LLC invited all interested ASA Chicago Chapter Members to attend the Auction of the Steel Fabricating Equipment of Jones and Brown Company, Inc. on Thursday, September 16, 2008 in Addison, Illinois. Chicago Members Patricia H. Atwood, AM, Chicago Chapter Secretary, Kenneth Howard, ASA and Michael Ackerman, ASA, MTS Chapter Chair, attended. The Auction was sold by Myron Bowling Auctioneers, a nationally known auction company in conjunction with PPL. The auction consisted of all of the manufacturing equipment, trucks, trailers and office equipment of the Jones and Brown Company, with 1,300 individual lots sold. Members discussed the preparation of the site for the auction, as well as auction procedures and techniques. Members further discussed the function and operation of the major machines and the potential auction selling price for each. The auction was very successful and generated 25% more revenue than expected. The controlled automation CNC Beam Cut-Off and Drill Line generated a high bid of $355,000. The Sanfilippo “Place de la Musique” is a privately owned mansion containing a voluminous assortment of vintage items that translate modernization over the past one hundred and fifty years. From its beautiful scenic grounds to its Tiffany chandeliers, vast art glass collection, and spectacular European salon carousel, Sanfilippo is sure to dazzle and intrigue. The Estate holds one of the world’s largest restored Wurlitzer theatre pipe organs as well as other unique vintage musical instruments and several hundred phonographs. Additionally, there is an 1881 Grant Steam Locomotive with a restored caboose, a 1890s Pullman passenger car and a huge display of other restored steam engines. The magnificent collection of arcade and gambling machines, street and tower clocks, and other functional mechanical antiques are all displayed within a breathtaking French Second Empire setting. EVENT FEE: The charge for this event is $25 for ASA members and $35 for non-members. This fee includes tour of the house, demonstration of the theater organ, visit to the carousel building, and dinner.
