Hi Fellow Club Members:
My tenure as the president of this club has come to an
end after two busy years. I have enjoyed welcoming the
new members, guests and existing members. I would
like to thank my board and the members who have
cooked, bartended, waited tables, took money at the
door and worked with community service, I could not
have made it without you.

Cards & Socializing
The next Karneval meeting will be June 29 at 2pm. The
German American Club is having its annual garage sale so this
gives you an excuse to come visit and buy something... if its
left!
SKAT Group
On July 19th the Karneval group will be hosting a dinner and
a Night At the Races! Barbara Ruckle has volunteered to
make Gulash. The theme is based on the horse races so wear
your nice outfit or floppiest hat and come support your
favorite jockey as he races to the finish line!
During Karneval Season there are certain days to observe.
One is Weiberfastnacht. This celebration falls on the
Thursday before Ash Wednesday. What is it? In 1824 in a
section of Bonn called Beuel, the washer women,
(Wascherinnen) staged a revolt against the male domination
of Karneval. They formed the Old Ladies Committee, (Alte
Damenkomitee) to take matters into their own hands.
Whereas other areas celebrate this by the woman storming
the town hall or Rathaus, in Beuel they elect a
Wascherprinzessin (Washer Princess) whose title is ‘Your
Loveliness’ and she represents the committee as they storm
the Town hall.
On this Thursday, like Sadie Hawkins Day in America the
woman of Germany take the lead and ask men to dance and
kiss. In some parts woman dress as hexen, (witches) and
other costumes and approach men who happen to be
sporting a tie. They cut the tie as a symbol of cutting his
manliness and reward him with a kiss. Of course, this is ladies
night out, so men should go home and not wear a favorite tie.
The Skat Group meets every Friday
(except on Holiday weekends)
at 4:30 pm
at the German-American Club.
If you like to play the German game of Skat
or learn how,
this is the place to be.
The Skat Club travels throughout the west for
competition games with other German-American
clubs. New players are always welcome!

31 - Cribbage - Pinochle
Bring your sense of humor and a love of socializing
to get in on the best game of 31 available in the city.
Watch out for the regulars, though... They will do
(or say) whatever it takes to get your buck twenty
five. Laughs and snark are keywords for this group
of rabble rousers!
If snark is not your cup of tea, try a friendly game
of Cribbage or Pinochle. Fare is potluck, so bring it!
