I went home and researched thoroughly on the internet so that when I went back into the store I had a pretty good idea what I was after.” Dave Carpet salesperson “I would advise anyone looking to purchase carpet to bring samples of finishes from their home in with them to the store – such as other floor coverings or window furnishings. This helps to rule out which colours aren’t going to work.” Alisha Brisbane accountant “Don’t forget to look at warranties and ACCS ratings. Some carpets look and feel great but aren’t designed to last - I learnt that the hard way! I recently replaced my carpet with one manufactured by a reputable brand that had the appropriate ACCS independent rating – I’m really happy with the result.” Trish Carpet salesperson “The one thing I make sure all our customers do is take home several large pieces of carpet that they like. I tell them to look at each one in their room under daylight and artificial light. The colours can change dramatically under different light and customers need to like the overall look.” * Look for the ACCS RATING See bonus Colour Selector for more details 12 gh002wall2wallau_ART3.indd 12 “ So many people choose their floor finishes last. I always recommend beginning with your carpet as a foundation for all your other finishes. Carpet is the fifth wall and such an important part of your room. Liz, Melbourne interior decorator ” 10/7/07 12:21:09 AM Here’s what Kathryn from Victoria had to say about her home decorating project using Godfrey Hirst carpet. Style YOUR After Q: Why carpet? A: We renovated a few years ago and although floorboards seemed like the practical choice, we found this room was always noisy and the kids didn’t want to play on the floor. We decided to update the room and thought it would be a good time to put carpet down in this area too. Q: What style were you trying to create in this room? Q: How did you decide on the style and colour of your carpet? A: When we realised we knew nothing about carpet we did some research on the internet. That’s when we first became aware of Carpets . After that we knew we wanted a loop pile in a fairly neutral colour. Q: When would you look at changing your carpet again? A: We wanted it to be modern but also relaxed and comfortable. We saw an image in one of the lifestyle magazines with colours we liked and went from there. A: We like to keep up with trends so we will probably replace our carpet again in maybe 5 years! Before A: Do lots of research first so you have a good idea what you want before you go into the store. Q: What advice would you give to someone buying carpet? If you would like your carpet makeover to be featured in our next issue of Wall 2 Wall simply email your “before and after” photos, a snapshot of yourself, the name of the carpet used and your contact details to [email protected] We can’t wait to see your latest decorating project! Although loads of fun, decorating for your new arrival can be a difficult task – what colours do you choose if you don’t know the sex of your baby? Try mixing some classic neutrals with a solid colour such as lemon, green or as we’ve shown lilac blue. These colours are unisex and can be accented with décor later on to suit a boy or girl. Gerry giraffe (Tip) Avoid making your child’s room too babyish, before you know it your baby will be a toddler and then off to school. Keep your nursery simple so you can change the décor to suit your child’s age. Leo the lion Monkey Mark Which carpet style? offers a range of carpets suitable for a child’s bedroom. If bright colours or plush piles aren’t what you are looking for try a neutral coloured level loop and cut pile geometric pattern or a wool loop pile in a warm hue.
