Elk Grove Industrial Real Estate Market is
Booming
Elk Grove Village remained one of the hottest locations in the Chicago region for industrial
properties. The 2015 year-end industrial vacancy rate of 5.37% represents one of the lowest
in the O’Hare Industrial market. This is down from a high of 12.48% in 2010.
Additionally, the end of the year industrial absorption rate for the Village was 180,654
square feet. The absorption rate is the net gain or loss of occupied industrial space in
square feet as businesses move in and out of a market. A positive absorption rate indicates
there are more businesses moving into the Village than moving out.
Recent notable developments in the Elk Grove market include:
MC Machinery: MC Machinery is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, a global Japanese
trading company. MC Machinery is an industry leader in the production of high precision
EDM (electrical discharge) machines, 2D and 3D laser cutting machines and milling
machines.
In 2015, MC Machinery in 2015 developed plans to construct a state-of-the-art 175,982
square foot corporate facility at a cost of $25 million in NW Point. The complex will house
their corporate offices, a showroom, a demonstration area, and a warehouse. The entire
project will accommodate 220 jobs.
DCT Development: DCT Development is significantly refurbishing the vacant 108,931
square foot industrial building located at 2201 Arthur Ave. at a cost of approximately $2
million.
Businesses Invited to Join Hometown Parade and
Celebrate 60th Anniversary
In honor of the Village’s 60th
anniversary, we will be holding a
very special Hometown Parade
with the theme of “Celebrating
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.”
To celebrate this special anniversary,
we would like all of our Elk Grove
business partners to join us in the
parade! The parade will take place
on Saturday, June 18 at 5:00 p.m.
Businesses are invited to walk in
the parade as a unit through our
community and are also welcome to participate as a sponsor.
If you are interested in participating in our celebration, please email the Parade Committee
at [email protected], or call 847-357-4108 for more information.
I-290 Interchange Project Update
The Tollway is rebuilding the I-290 Interchange at I-390 (Elgin O’Hare) to create direct access with free-flow traffic
movements to and from I-390 in all directions. As of January 2016, four new I-290 Interchange ramps are now open
to traffic, including the flyover ramp from westbound I-290 to westbound I-390 and the ramp from eastbound I-290
to westbound I-390, creating new, free-flow traffic movements to the west and eliminating the signalized intersection at
Thorndale Avenue. New ramps from westbound I-290 to eastbound I-390 and from westbound I-390 to eastbound I-290
are also open.
Traffic traveling from westbound I-290 to eastbound Illinois Route 390 and from eastbound I-290 to eastbound I-390 is
being directed to temporary ramps while construction is underway on the permanent ramps.
All Rohlwing Road traffic in both directions is using the new bridge over I-390. Drivers traveling between Rohlwing Road
and I-390 and I-290 are now using frontage roads west of Rohlwing Road and the existing ramp near Meacham Road/
Medinah Road.
Elmhurst Road I-90 Interchange Project Update
The Elmhurst Road Interchange Project, which will complete the existing partial I-90 interchange is scheduled for
completion in 2016. As of January 29, all traffic on Elmhurst Road between Oakton Road and I-90 was shifted onto
the northbound side of the road to allow for widening of
southbound lanes. In addition, northbound traffic is reduced
to one lane over Higgins Creek to allow for rebuilding and
widening the southbound side of the Higgins Creek Bridge.
The new ramps on the east side of the bridge are open and all
traffic traveling to and from the east is being moved to those
ramps. The existing loop ramps on the west side of the bridge
will be permanently closed to allow for construction of new
ramps that will carry traffic to and from the west.
Traffic in both directions has been shifted onto the new
southbound Elmhurst Road Bridge. This will allow for the
demolition of the old Elmhurst Road Bridge and the start of
construction on the new northbound Elmhurst Road Bridge.

Business Leaders Forum Update
In 2015 The Village’s Business Leaders Forum (BLF) held regular quarterly meetings. Each meeting focused on a specific
topic area suggested by the membership. For example, the fall meeting focused on workplace safety and the winter
meeting focused on workforce development resources. Village staff coordinated the meetings and scheduled expert
speakers in the topic areas. The meetings also provided an excellent opportunity for business leaders to network.
The BLF is a collaborative initiative between the Village and the business community to develop plans and programs to
drive business development and community building.
The BLF is the reformulated version of the Industrial and Commercial Revitalization Commission (ICRC). Building
on the ICRC’s significant past achievements; the BLF is a nimble and flexible group offering local business leaders the
opportunity to directly impact the future of the Village.
If you are a business owner or operator in the Village and would like to be included in future BLF meetings please
contact Director of Business Development and Marketing Josh Grodzin at 847-357-4005 or [email protected].
Welcoming Hitachi to Elk Grove Village
In November, Trustees Petri and Lissner joined officials
from Hitachi Corporation for a grand opening ceremony
for their new industrial equipment marking solutions
division.
The ceremony consisted of company officials from
both the US and Japan addressing visitors and staff on
their hopes for a prosperous future. The ceremony also
consisted of a traditional Japanese sake barrel-breaking.
A barrel-breaking ceremony symbolizes opening to
harmony and good fortune.
This division of Hitachi produces industrial ink jet
marking machines for food packaging and other
consumer goods. Hitachi is located at 2730 Greenleaf.

Village Board meetings
are generally held on the second
and fourth Tuesday of
the month at 7:00 p.m.
In 1996, when the Police Department was researching the development of a canine
program, area veterinarians were invited to discuss the care of the Village’s future dogs. Dr.
Stram, a lifelong Elk Grove resident and owner of the Elk Grove Pet Clinic on Meacham
Road, offered to provide all Veterinarian care for Village K-9s at no cost to the Village.
Since the inception of the K-9 program, Dr. Stram and his staff have provided exceptional
care for seven service dogs. He has gone above and beyond expectations by taking calls at
all hours of the day from police handlers to answer questions. There has been more than
one occasion when Dr. Stram had the handlers bring the dogs to his house to examine
them on his days off. Dr. Stram and his staff exemplify why Elk Grove Village is “The
Exceptional Community.”
Busse Dam Modification Construction Complete!
Construction on the Busse Dam Modification, which will help alleviate flooding in Elk
Grove Village and in the many communities downstream along Salt Creek, was completed
in December, 2015. Following construction, the trail section near the dam was restored and
has been reopened.
The project consisted of installing two hinged gates, which can be used during flood events
to store floodwater within Busse Lake and prevent downstream flooding. In addition to the
gates and control structure, remote water level monitoring sites with monopoles and radio
capability were installed along Salt Creek at John F. Kennedy Boulevard, Arlington Heights
Road, Golf Road and at the west dam within the forest preserve.
While the gates are fully operational, the Village is still working to extend power sources for
the monitoring sites, which provide information to properly operate the system. The Village
is working with ComEd and anticipates that power will be installed by the end of March,
before the spring thaws begin!
Visit www.elkgrove.org/bussedam for more information on the project.

information can be found on page 3.
In the past, residents have been required to purchase
Village pet licenses along with their vehicle stickers.
As of 2016, the Village Board has eliminated the pet
licensing requirement and will no longer require pets to
display Village pet tags. Pet owners are still required to
have their pets vaccinated against rabies and get a tag as
proof, as required by Cook County. Residents are also
encouraged to ensure their pet is microchipped, which
allows the Police Department to identify pet owners in
the case of a lost animal.
Residents are always invited to share thoughts and
concerns, or ask questions by clicking “Contact Us” on
the Village website (www.elkgrove.org).

Vehicle stickers will be available for purchase on Monday, April 4, 2016. Preprinted renewal forms will be mailed to all
residents and businesses on Monday, April 11, 2016. To avoid waiting in line, residents are encouraged to renew by mail, or

Senior citizens 65 years and older, handicapped persons with a handicap plate or permanent placard registered to the

days of purchase, and are registered or housed within the Village are subject to citations and fines per Village Code 6-2-2.
Vehicle stickers can also be purchased in person at the Finance Department counter, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.
until 5:00 p.m., and 9:00 a.m. until noon the first Saturday of the month, excluding holiday weekends.
The design for this year’s vehicle sticker was drawn by Quentin Woehler, a 6th grade student, who won the design
competition for the Village’s 60th Anniversary.
Village pet tags no longer required
Pet owners in Elk Grove Village are no longer required to license their pets with the Village following a vote by the
Village Board to eliminate the pet licensing requirement in January.
With the increase in microchipping, the Village pet licensing system had become outdated and redundant. Pet owners are
still required to have their pets vaccinated against rabies and get a tag as proof, as required by Cook County.
If you encounter a stray pet, or lose your pet, you are encouraged to contact the Police Department Information Center
(847-357-4100), which will continue to maintain a log book for lost and found pets. Additionally, Village Police Officers
are trained to use equipment to retrieve owner information from microchips and can also obtain owner information from
county rabies tags.

GCAMP Targets Youth Interest in Manufacturing
The Golden Corridor Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (GCAMP) has a
vibrant new website to better educate youth about exciting careers in advanced
manufacturing!
If you are a high school student or a parent of one, the new GCAMP website
(www.gcamp.org) offers important information about manufacturing, a
significant component of the American economy. Manufacturing supports
about 17.6 million jobs in the U.S. (one in six private sector jobs). The
Manufacturing Institute and Deloitte Consulting estimate that there will be a
shortage of 3 million skilled manufacturing workers over the next 10 years.
The website is an excellent tool to assist families in making critical post-secondary
education decisions. GCAMP works with school districts 211 and 214 helping
students to secure engineering and manufacturing internships primarily in the
summer months. Check out the GCAMP website next spring for opportunities. You can also find videos of high school
students after company visits on Manufacturing Day (Oct. 2, 2015). Find out how to get involved at www.gcamp.org!
Curbside Trash Can Size Limit reminder
As a reminder, the rules of the Village curbside waste and recycling program limit the size of trash
cans that can be placed at the curb to 32 gallons. Additionally, the trash cans must have handles and
weigh less than 50 pounds. These limits exist for the safety of the drivers who have to lift the cans and
empty them into the truck. Toters rented from Waste Management are permitted to be larger, because
they are compatible with equipment on the trucks which lifts and empties them.
Prescription Drug Takeback Day - April 30, 10am - 2pm
On Saturday, April 30, 2016 the Elk Grove Village Police Department will be participating in the National Take-Back
initiative. On this date the Police Department will coordinate their efforts with other law enforcement agencies across the
country in an effort to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from homes.
The National Take-Back initiative provides an opportunity to surrender expired, unwanted, or
unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications. Rates of prescription drug
abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high—more Americans currently abuse prescription drugs than
use cocaine, hallucinogens, and heroin combined. Studies show that most abused prescription
drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
In addition to the annual Take-Back Initiative, prescription drugs can be dropped off throughout the year at the Fire
Administration counter in the lower level of the Village Hall, 901 Wellington Ave., 8:30a.m. - 5p.m. Monday thru Friday.
Holiday Lights Recycling
The Village is accepting unused and non-working Holiday string lights and extension cords as part
of the SWANCC Holiday Lights Recycling Program. SWANCC and participating communities
have partnered with Elgin Recycling Inc. to recycle the lights and cords. Strands are separated
and baled and sent to be chopped or shredded and sold as a commodity to foundries and mills.
Most importantly they are kept out of the landfill.
