Thayer is a ten year veteran of the club industry, having worked at some of the finest private clubs in South Florida. These include Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club, Ibis Golf & Country Club and Frenchman’s Creek Beach & Country Club. Thayer is a native of Denver, Colorado and a graduate of Metropolitan State University. He holds a Sommelier Certification and CMAA, BMI certification from UNLV School of Hospitality. Oasis Opens! New Family Pool Guest Policy We encourage our members to bring guests to the Club. However, the same guest may not return more than (6) times during the member year. The guest must be accompanied by the Club member at all times. Family Pool Guest Policy: (2) guests per member family per day – no charge. A $5 guest fee will apply for every guest thereafter (no charge for guests under three years of age). We look forward to seeing you at the pool! Members, arranged in teams of 8 persons, will vie for fame, prizes and club bragging rights. There will also be beverage specials. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the first question asked at 7 p.m. In addition, be sure to come early for the Monday Night Buffet served from 5:30–8 p.m. for $19.50 per person plus tax & gratuity. Trivia Master, Roger Exum stumping the audience with another brain teaser Let’s congratulate February’s winning team (for the second month in a row!) “To B or Not to B” comprised of Jerry & Rhona Brenner, Rob & Kelly Bomar, Kirby & Valarie Chritton and Bill & Ann Buchholz. Their entire team received complimentary buffet tickets along with the Trivia trophy. Really PAW-some Fun Doga is scheduled for Saturday, March 8 at noon at The Lodge’s beach. Doga is a partner yoga class, where both the dog and master stretch and bond together through yoga postures, meditation, massage and love. Towels are provided. Dance Party... 1963 Style! Members filled the Ocean Room last month for an 1960s themed Shag Dance Party. It was here that a DJ played his collection of beach music favorites as all shagged the night away on the dance floor. It was an evening of good food, good fun and good times. What’s in Your Book Bag? All members are invited to attend the next Book Club meeting on Tuesday, March 18 from 10 a.m.–Noon in the Innlet Lounge. Enjoy a spot of tea or coffee as those in attendance discuss “The Dinner” by Herman Koch. No registration necessary. We’re Making a Splash with One VERY COOL Pool After six months of construction and site preparation, The Lodge & Club’s new, multipurpose swimming pool is set to debut with its Grand Reopening on Saturday, March 1. Members can expect a grand scale, splash pool/mini water theme park for families and exercise pool for fitness enthusiasts. The previous pool and deck, which was 12,000 sq. ft., has increased to a dramatic 17,000 sq. ft. in size. Family Fun • • • A youth friendly, zero entry shallow end will appeal to parents of toddler aged children A seven foot high water slide features a 270 degree drop to the awaiting pool below An activity area to delight the young ones will showcase a variety of fun and motion lively pool features that include Water Flowers, Dumping Bells and Angled Spray Twisters Fitness Use • • An additional lap lane has been added, increasing the number of swim lanes from three to four. We’ll be replacing the movie sound track with an evening of karaoke singing of “Grease” songs and 50’s style dancing to a DJ. Bring a swim suit and make splash if you wish. A native of Georgia, he graduated from Florida State College with a Degree in Culinary Arts where he developed a zealous devotion to food styling and artful cooking. He brings more than two decades of culinary experience to his current position. Most recently he has served as both Chef de Cuisine and Executive Sous Chef at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. Chef Talley describes his culinary style as classical European or French featuring a contemporary presentations and southern inspired ingredients. His seasonal menus are planned around the freshest products creating unique combinations of sophisticated cuisine. Members will appreciate Chef Talley’s eye catching and palate pleasing presentations. Happy Hour, a popular Lodge tradition where members gather and socialize, is expanding its presence. Starting in March, Happy Hour will be featured at both the Innlet Lounge and the Oasis Bar every Monday through Saturday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. It’s here that house wines, domestic beer and well-brand cocktails are offered at half price. Executive Chef Tim Talley Meet Chef Talley Members are invited to meet The Lodge & Club’s new Executive Chef Tim Talley as he presents a ‘get to know you’ welcome dinner on Sunday, March 16 from 6-9 p.m. in the Innlet Dining Room. Throughout the evening, Chef Talley will visit with members and discuss his cooking style and offer some tips to all the chefs at home. The Oasis, a member favorite for oceanfront, al fresco dining, is opening for the 2014 season on Saturday, March 1. The Oasis will be serving daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Sunday-Thursday) and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Friday, Saturday) weather permitting. Full Moon Party Ahi Tuna & Seaweed Salad In NASA-speak, “the ecliptic longitudes of the Sun and Moon differ by 180 degrees”. For the rest of us earthlings, this means there’s going to be a full moon. To celebrate the complete illumination of that orbiting rock in the sky, The Oasis will be hosting a Full Moon Party from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. Along with live entertainment, expect a selection of “out of this world” snacks and beverages. Reservations are not required. Views & Musical Verve Surf & Turf Wednesdays Join fellow Lodge members at The Innlet Lounge every Friday evening from 6-9 p.m. for the finest in live musical entertainment. The upbeat performances include vocals, guitar and piano. Enjoy the music, the splendid views and your beverage of choice before trying one of the Chef ’s featured appetizers. Every Wednesday evening, the Innlet Dining Room delights members with a Two-for-One dining special. Purchase an entrée consisting of a Half Lobster Tail and Angus Beef Filet for $34.50 – and receive the second entrée at no cost. More than 400 Team GATE members will be out in full force either running or walking the 5K or the 15K. Zumba Dance Class for Kids Kids Yoga Workshop The Gym is conducting another Kids’ Yoga Class on Wednesday, March 5 at 4 p.m. It’s here that children (ages 5–10) will learn about stretching, meditation and simple yoga poses. This 45-minute class is complimentary. Registration is not necessary. Zumba is a Columbian word which means to MOVE FAST and HAVE FUN – activities loved by children. Inspired by Latin music, the Zumba dance class will teach the young ones (ages 5-12) rhythm and movement as they improve in coordination and confidence.
