Stig Blomqvist was the master of spectacular
drifts.
In terms of temperament, Blomqvist was the exact opposite
of Mikkola. Born in 1946, the man from Örebro was considered
a terse daredevil in life and behind the wheel. His driving style
was extremely spectacular, particularly on ice and snow. Stig
Blomqvist and his co-pilot, Björn Cederberg, drove sporadically for
Audi in 1982 before joining the brand full time in 1983. The two
Swedes won the drivers’ world championship in 1984 and finished
second the following year.
