camps. Intermediate skiers will find they can ski all three of the lift-accessed mountains, but the best blue trails are to be found off
of the River Run Gondola, with epic, sustained cruisers like Frenchman and Irishman.
Expert skiers and boarders have nearly 50 percent of Keystone’s 3,000 acres to themselves. Experts can enjoy moguls, glades,
steeps and small chutes. Powderhounds will delight in all the snowcat-accessed terrain off of Independence Mountain and Wapiti

At 11,640 feet, Dercum Mountain is home to long green and blue runs and perfect groomers to keep you cruising all day. This is
a great place to start for beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Tree skiers can access The Windows – truly legendary tree skiing. High above the green and blue runs, you’ll find Bergman, Erikson and Independence Bowls – the perfect opportunity for guided CAT skiing tours. A Mountain-Top Snowcat Tour from the top of Dercum to Independence Bowl offers a
breathtaking scenic journey.
North Peak rises to 11,660 ft., this is the place for skiers and riders that love long trails full of bumps. Flex your skills on
a variety of blue intermediate and black expert runs. At the top of North Peak is The Outpost, home to every dining experience

2014 IBEX Fall Colors Golf Outing

Hello Ibex Shankapotomous’s (ok “Golfers” for those less modest about their skills):
It is time to think about signing up for the annual Ibex Fall Golf Outing. This will be our first time at a new location in three years. After 3 wonderful years in Freeport, we are moving to central Illinois to play at two different courses in beautiful Bloomington-Normal!!!! With luck the weather will be just a touch warmer & drier
than it was out in Freeport.

the region. Its archaeology museum is famous worldwide as the home of the alpine iceman "Ötzi". It is also known as the Italian

After skiing in Madonna, stay for the Florence extension trip. Florence is the capital of Tuscany, a region in Italy. It
is the birthplace of the Renaissance period in Europe that was led and financed by one of the most notorious families in history, the Medici family. Average January temperatures range from the low 40’s to the mid 30’s
(Fahrenheit).
Stay 3 nights at the 4 star Hotel Cavour that is centrally located in town. The $455 price of the extension
includes lodging, daily breakfast and a guided walking tour. There is much to do and see in the Tuscany
region of Italy. We are exploring the opportunity of taking a day trip to the city of Lucca.
Lucca was one of the three power cities of Tuscany, along with Florence and Pisa. Famous for its intact Renaissance-era city walls, Lucca was once a Roman colony. With a street layout being evidence of a Roman street plan,
and the remains of the amphitheater forming the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, Lucca’s history is ancient and fascinating.

Depart Madonna on January 24th. Transportation between Madonna and Florence is by bus. Check-in to
Hotel Cavour on the 24th. Depart Florence at 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27 th. Fly from Florence to

Hey Ibex Skiers and Riders, after
the trip sign up party we have less than 10 spots

lucky Ibex members who are able to join us for Spring Break in Snowmass/Aspen. Snowmass/Aspen
is famous for great spring skiing due to the high altitude and plentiful snow. Ibex is famous for fun people and
great ski trips…what a combination - wooohoooo! Get signed up soon or you’ll be missing out.
Ibex is changing it up this time around and we will stay in Snowmass Village at the luxurious Top of The Village
Condos’ (website: http://www.destinationsnowmass.com/accommodations/top -of-the-village/virtualtours.php ). These condos’ are situated such that you are truly a few feet from your patio to the slope; ski out in
the morning, ski back in later. This will give you immediate access to the biggest and most diverse terrain of all the
mountains in Aspen. We will be a short walk (or free condo shuttle) to the shops and restaurants in Snowmass
village. Our condos’ have a heated indoor/outdoor pool and 2 good sized hot –tubs, along with a sauna and fitness facility. Each unit is equipped with a washer/dryer, kitchen, fireplace, private balcony or patio with a gas grill,
and daily maid service.
The great Aspen bus service (free) will give us access to the other mountains and the town of Aspen. While we
are in Snowmass, we will take a few days out to visit Aspen Highlands and Aspen (Ajax) mountain. Buttermilk is
an option as well. We will plan a few events in the town of Aspen and as well as Snowmass Village.
The skiing available is phenomenal, with over 5000 acres, and here are some mountain statistics:
Snowmass: Huge amount of terrain for every level of skier, plenty of groomed blues and bowls.
12,510 peak, 4,406 vertical, 3332 acres, 94 trails: 6% green, 47% blue, 17% black, 30% dbl black
Aspen Highlands: More advanced mountain, but still terrain for all, and spectacular views at the top.
12,392 peak, 3635 vertical, 1040 acres, 122 trails: 18% green, 30% blue, 16% black, 36% dbl black
Aspen : More advanced mountain, with no green terrain, but a classic that rises out of Aspen town. 11,212
peak, 3267 vertical, 675 acres, 76 trails: 0% green, 48% blue, 26% black, 26% dbl black

We have a 5/6 day lift ticket and the ability to add a 6th day for about $60. This lift ticket gives us the option of skiing Snowmass, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Aspen Mountains. We will certainly be planning visits
to these other mountains during the week.
Snowmass Village offers dozens of restaurants and bars, with choices for every pallet. There is plenty of shopping
to keep those credit cards well warn, if you need a souvenir or 12. Of course, the town of Historic Aspen is a short
15 minute shuttle ride away, and there are dozens more dining options and 100’s of shops to visit.

This is going to be a great trip starting with our Wine and Cheese arrival party and continuing for 7 days of spring
skiing in Colorado. We will plan lunch meeting locations, après ski locations, some casual group dinners, and we
will even try to visit a few of those bars on a Friday evening pub crawl to celebrate the end of the ski week.
Don’t forget March is the actually the Snowiest month in Colorado. We will likely see warm spring skiing days, and
almost certainly a few snowy days that will provide a variety of conditions for the great snow riding terrain Snowmass/Aspen offers. With bases at 9000’, and peaks up to 12,500’, snow conditions are always fantastic in March
at Snowmass/Aspen.

CRESTED BUTTE
Crested Butte was voted the best ski town for 2014 by Powder Magazine so
you do not want to miss this trip. We leave on March 5, 2015 and land at the
Gunnison Airport at 2:05 pm. Then with just at 31 mile bus ride we will be at the
wonderful Plaza Condos. We will be staying in 2 bedroom / 2 bath condos that are
100 yards from the lifts. You can get 3-4 ski days in with only taking 4 days off
work. The cost is $1055. This includes air, Lodging, ground transportation, and a
3 day lift ticket ($60 more for 4th day lift ticket).
Crested Butte averages over 300 inches of snow fall a year. The resort has 1547
skiable acres, 15 total lifts, and 121 trails for all skiing abilities. There are plenty of
other activities available from zip lining, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, cross country
skiing, and there are a couple spas in the area. There is something for everyone.
Of the 28 spots there is only 1 left. So if you are thinking of going you need to act
fast and sign up. When we fill up I will create a waiting list and we will what we can
do.

Saturday, August 16th was the Ibex Tennis Event at Midtown Health Club in Palatine. Ed and
Karen, Lynn, Pam, Mike, Matt, Suzanne, Sue, Oliver and Andrea, Mary Lynn, MK, and Sarah
(Ed was a spectator due to recent knee procedure) hit the courts ready for some doubles action. We all got to play with different partners and opponents by rotating the server out after
each game and that player would run to a different court for a new game. After almost 2 hours
of fun tennis, we relaxed on the patio with light snacks and drinks. Some even ventured to the
beautiful pool for a swim. Each of us was also given a guest pass (members and non- members) to return to Midtown to enjoy the facilities. Thanks to Midtown for hosting such a fun
event. I am looking forward to coordinating another event at Midtown. Is anyone interested in
playing pickle ball?

LGBT: LAKE GENEVA BAR TOUR (by bicycle!!)
On Saturday, September 27th we will meet in downtown Lake Geneva for our annual circum-navigational bike ride
around the lake. I think this is our 17th year!! (depending on how you count J) But talk with anyone who’s been on this
ride before and they’ll tell you how much fun they’ve had!
Here’s ‘just the facts’:
THIS IS AN ALL DAY EVENT STARTING AT EITHER 9a or 11a depending on what you want to do:
Want some BREAKFAST before the ride? We will meet for breakfast at Lake-Aire Restaurant (804 W. Main
Street, Lake Geneva) around 9a. I don’t suggest bringing your bike to the restaurant – the sidewalk is small; but if
it jeopardizes your ability to be READY TO RIDE at 11:00a, then bring it along with a lock.
No Breakfast: Just want to ride? We’ll meet in the parking lot behind Champs (747 W. Main Street) READY TO
RIDE at 11:00am.
THIS RIDE IS SOCIAL! The purpose is to be outside, enjoy the company of friends in good scenery with a bit
of biking and beverages in between.
PARKING
There are 4-hour meters all over Lake Geneva --- try to find a spot without meters. We’ve had luck with a little lot at
the corner of Sage St and Geneva St. (Look for the Starbucks on the corner of Main St – aka Hwy 50 – and Center St, turn right to first street which is Geneva and turn right again to end which is Sage)
THE RIDE
The ride is approximately 21 miles along a rolling landscape: some of the landscape is gentle, a small bit of it is not,
all of it makes for a fun ride.
There are 5 pubs for us to rest our pedals – although we try to stop at them all, the total number of stops is a fluid evaluation of the fun had at each stop.
We will have lunch at either pub stop 3 or 4, depending on the hunger level of the group.
The ANNUAL GROUP PICTURE will be taken in front of the lake at our favorite stop.
We end the day c.6:30p at Popeye’s for dinner and chuckles of the day’s events.
NOT FOND OF BIKING BUT STILL WANT TO HAVE FUN ? ? NOT TO WORRY!!!
There are lots of ways you can still join this group:
Bring your motorcycle --- leather is just as fun as lycra!
Rent a moped!! (if you can find one, let me know and I’ll help promote it to others for you!)
Drive it!! If you think you can offer “ sag” assistance to your biking buddies in the unlikely event that
something unexpected happens, you’re pretty much guaranteed that someone will buy you a beverage of your
choice out of gratitude!! Let me know if you’re driving and I can share the names of others who are driving as
well in the event you’d like to carpool!

The Rack House is conveniently located just east of Arlington Heights Road on Algonquin—where Boston Blackies use
to be. It is a very nice restaurant, large indoor bar, private room (if we want it) with a fireplace and a very nice outdoor
patio. We can get part of the patio reserved for the Ibex clan too. Stuart and Denise went for a private happy hour cocktail and some appetizers to check it out. “It passed with flying colors,” says Denise.
The rackhouse (or rickhouse) is where bourbon barrels are stored and aged. With this, Whiskey and Bourbon play a
major role in many of the dishes and house made sauces they serve. Many local craft beers, regional Whiskey and
Bourbons, Moonshine, nice wines, special cocktails, like the “Cucumber Martini,” and more await us. The prices are
very reasonable. We each had a glass of wine ($7), some excellent bbq rubbed chicken wings ($8) and a plate of huge
peel and eat-shrimp ($13). They have favorites like Carolina pulled pork sandwich ($12) or even sautéed Kale and
sweet potato tots ($4 each) for the veggie lover. Full dinners, like brisket, ribs, fish and chicken are available for under
$18.
With multiple big screen plasma televisions throughout the restaurant and patio, you can be sure that you will have a
view to watch a game.
