Our management team.
Nonprofit Renew Theaters joined the Princeton community as
the operator of the Garden Theatre in July of 2014. We also run
three golden-age movie theaters in Pennsylvania – the County
Theater in Doylestown, the Ambler Theater in Ambler, and the
Hiway Theater in Jenkintown. We are committed to excellent
programming and to meaningful community engagement.

What main films will play at the
Garden? This section lists the Main
Attractions that we intend to play in the
coming weeks. Additional unlisted films
will also become available. This list is
only an educated guess, though, since
film release plans often change.
When will these main films play?
Scheduling our Main Attractions is weekto-week. On Monday, we decide what
main films will play starting that Friday.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, we set the
showtimes for the upcoming week and
then update our website and telephone
hotline. We also send out a weekly email
(which you can receive by signing up
at our website). Sometimes, we book
a main film a few weeks in advance,
which we post on our website’s “Coming
Attractions” section.

Denial
USA - Jeff Nichols - 2 hr 3 min
This film, which had a celebrated
premiere at Cannes, is the true story of
interracial couple Richard and Mildred
Loving, who fought for their right to
marry in 1950s Virginia. Their long legal
case went all the way to the Supreme
Court and overturned Virginia’s law
prohibiting interracial marriage in 1967.
It’s a powerful, well-acted film starring
Joel Edgerton, Ruth Negga, and Michael
Shannon.
UK - Mick Jackson - 1 hr 50 min
Acclaimed playwright David Hare wrote
the powerful screenplay for this legal
thriller. Based on the real life case of an
American historian who was sued for
libel after accusing a British author of
Holocaust denial. Starring Rachel Weisz,
Tom Wilkinson, and Timothy Spall.
Manchester by the Sea
USA - Kenneth Lonergan - 2 hr 15 min
Casey Affleck stars in this textured drama
about loss and family. After the sudden
death of his brother, a man is appointed
guardian of his teenage nephew. He returns to his hometown in Massachusetts
and must confront elements of his past
that he had tried to bury. Affleck gives
an Oscar-worthy performance and is
supported by an excellent cast including
Michelle Williams.

the Pines. Michael Fassbender and Alicia

Australia who rescue a baby who they
discovered in a rowboat adrift at sea.
Set at the end of World War I, this family
drama was adapted from the best-selling
novel of the same title. Also starring
Rachel Weisz.
The Innocents
France - Anne Fontaine - 1 hr 55 min w/subtitles
This gorgeously shot drama is set in
the final days of World War II. In 1945,
a young French Red Cross doctor
travels to Poland to assist the victims
of German camps and discovers that
several nuns from a local convent are
pregnant. A carefully directed film from
Anne Fontaine, who artfully handles the
subject with compassion and restraint.

American Pastoral
USA - Ewan McGregor -2 hr 6 min
Ewan McGregor makes his directorial
debut with this adaptation of the Philip
Roth novel of the same name. Set in
1960s America, a family man’s life
begins to crumble because of his daughter’s radical political activism. A complex

Local composer Brendan Cooney returns
with another evening of LIVE music for this
silent classic, the 1928 FALL OF THE HOUSE
OF USHER. Based on the story by Edgar
Allen Poe, the screenplay was co-written
by Luis Buñuel. This early horror film uses
experimental film techniques, brooding tone,
and elaborate set design. The evening’s music
is composed by Brendan Cooney and will be
performed by a small ensemble. Additional

badlands of South Dakota. Malick’s
first film exhibited the beautiful

from London’s National Theatre, the Kenneth
Branagh Theatre Company, the Globe Theatre,
and the Royal Opera House. We will also
present encores of some of the National
Theatre’s best shows including James Corden in
the comic One Man, Two Guvnors, Helen Mirren
as Queen Elizabeth II in The Audience, Mark
Strong in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge,
