But like the horrible cold, wet spring it is all behind us now as SUMMER IS FINALLY HERE!! Most of you are already enjoying our many new upgrades---patio, landscaping around rest of building, new benches, lit pathways to washrooms, etc. Mind you the grass has gone brown as it hibernates through our hottest time of year (remember no watering all will go green again when temps cool). Who cares about the grass when you are lounging poolside listening to music and hearing the splashing of water. It’s summer--- Have some ice-cream or poutine at the new patio, go for a bike ride, a swim, a boat ride!! Canada Day weekend has come and gone with great weather, fun events, fireworks and the live band, The Reasons. Our next LIVE summer band is the Elvis Tribute Band playing by the Rec Hall on Saturday, July 30th 8pm-11pm. Then The Easy Band performs on Saturday, August 13th from 8pm-11pm. As always, check with the Rec Hall and/or Activities Schedules for lots of fun family activities for all throughout the summer months. The new garbage/recycling area is looking great and is working very well. Please see info enclosed regarding disposal rules, etc. If you are interested in a new Northlander, Innsbruck or Sunroom, please see Steve, Tim or Mike. There are still sites available in Limestone Acres South for your new Park Model Trailer. To obtain newletters please leave email address at office or check our website. All that’s left is to enjoy your summer!! WHAT KIND OF CAMPING IS FOR YOU? Do you think camping is a stupid activity? Do you see people camping and want to join them or do you laugh at them and think they are crazy? Do you want to give camping a try but aren’t sure you are going to like it? Take this quiz to find out. 1) When you think about sleeping in a tent, do you think: A. It would be fun to sleep in the fresh air under the stars B. What was that noise? What was that noise? What was that noise? C. No tents, fully loaded RV’s are the only way to camp. D. Who is going to sleep? I’m going to hang out by the campfire and drink beer. 2) How long do you think its going to take to set up your tent: A. About a half hour including the time to put an extra rain tarp over the top just in case it rains. B. We’ve been trying to get this tent up for over two hours and the people across from us have been drinking beer and laughing at us for an hour and a half. They’re finally coming over to help us because all we have are a bunch of poles and tarp on the ground. C. I’m not taking a tent. I’m going to take a 5th Wheel or other RV and all I’ll need to do is put down my stabilizers, hook up the hoses and plug into the electrical supply at my site. D. We’re not setting up a tent. We’re going to sleep in the back of our van. We have a bunch of pillows and blankets back there. 3) How do you build a campfire? A. You lightly crush some newspaper in the fire pit; add a small loose pile of kindling; build a small teepee with some of your wood supply and light it. B. You throw a bundle of wood you bought into the campfire ring and use up a hole box of matches trying to light it. C. If I want a campfire tonight, refer to answer A because I know how to build one. But since I have a really nice 5th Wheel I may stay inside tonight and read a book. D. Refer to answer A. I know how to build a campfire but we’re going to lay in a big supply of wood. Our campfire is going to be going strong all night long! 4) When you checked into the campground you were given a map of hiking trails to check out. You decide to: A. Plan a daily itinerary that includes at least 5 miles of trails daily. You make sure your hiking backpack is fully stocked with water, energy bars, and insect repellent. B. You decide to try one of the trails closet to your campsite but you never notice the scenery around you because you’re always looking down at the trail watching for snakes and other creepy crawly things of nature that might cross your path and make you scream. C. I like to hike but I may also decide to go biking or fishing or take a trip into town to go antiquing or shopping. D. I partied all night last night so I’m sleeping in until noon. Then I’m going to hang around the campsite with my friends until evening rolls around and its time to build another campfire. 5) What food should we have while we are camping? A. We’ll have campfire coffee in the morning along with eggs and bacon over the fire; we’ll have energy bars, fruit and sandwiches for lunch while we’re out hiking or biking; and for supper we’ll have pudgie pies or foil packet meals made over the campfire. B. We’ll go into town and have pizza. C. My RV has a nice kitchen, thank you. I’ll be cooking something nice in it. D. We’ll be roasting hot dogs and marshmellows over the fire. ANSWER KEY: If you answered: MOSTLY A’s---you are definitely ready to camp with little more than tent, sleeping bag, and some basic provisions. MOSTLY B’s---that 5 star hotel down the road from the campground is looking pretty good to you right now. You might want to keep your visits to the campground short---maybe in 1 hour increments. MOSTLY C’s---you would like to camp but you want to camp in luxury and style. Why not? There’s camping gear and equipment for every person and every budget. Who says camping has to be about roughing it. MOSTLY D’s---don’t book your camping trip at a family campground. You don’t want to camp. You want to party, party, party!! (From Campingearth.com) HEAT UP THE BBQ Grilled Zucchini Cut 4 medium zucchini lengthwise into 4 to 5 slices each. Brush one side of each slice with 1 Tablespoon Oregano Seasoning Pesto. Keep the Emerald Ash Borer AND Asian Long-horned Beetle out of Quinte’s Isle Campark!!! These destructive beetles have infested and killed an estimated 20 million ash trees in North America since 2002. The major risk for spreading these insects is through the movement of infested firewood. Campers and cottagers who bring firewood with them to campgrounds, hunting cabins and fishing locations may unknowingly spread these insects to these sites and beyond. The following areas are known to be infested and are currently regulated by the CFIA under Ministerial Orders: ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ Counties of Essex, Elgin, Lambton, Middlesex and Norfolk Municipality of Chatham-Kent City of Toronto-Hamilton and surrounding regions (Halton, Peel, York and Durham) Ottawa and Sault Ste. Marie Municipalities of Carignan, Richelieu, Saint-Basile-Le-Grand and Saint-Mathiassur-Richelieu (Quebec) It is prohibited to move ash tree materials and firewood of any species from these areas without the written permission of the CFIA. Copies of the Orders outlining these regulations are available on request at 1-866-463-6017 or online at www.inspection.gc.ca. If you have brought firewood from any of these areas, please turn over to us for safe disposal. Moving ash or firewood violates the quarantine and is against the law. Regulated materials include nursery stock, trees, logs, wood, rough lumber (including pallets and other wood packaging materials.) THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO KEEP OUR PARK CLEAN!!! WATER CONSERVATION POLICY Under our Ministry of Environment=s Permit to Take Water, we are only permitted to use a particular amount of water per day and not to exceed it. We, therefore, have created a summer water conservation policy to facilitate this. As summer is peak water usage months, cutting back on water wastage at this time is most practical. We are fortunate to have a large well water supply but we are also obligated under law to protect it. Regular use of water is not a problem. Although when 100 people are watering their lawn for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon during peak season, hundreds of thousands of litres of water literally go down the drain (or rather evaporate into the air). Brown grass in July is dormant grass, not dead. When temperatures cool, the grass will turn green and as healthy as before. Our policy is as follows: 1) Water Conservation commences June 13th . 2) Watering ONLY between 11pm and 6am for maximum of 30 minutes. 3) NO sprinkler watering unless used with a timer with auto-shut off for maximum of 30 minutes inbetween 11pm and 6am. 4) Watering with a hose is allowed between 11pm and 6am provided the hose has a trigger nozzle and is actively held by an individual. 5) Watering only permitted once per week during allowed times (if no rain)CHandwatering of flowers is permitted as needed (no sprinklers). 6) No lawn/sprinkler watering at all during the weekends from June 13th to Sept. 13th. 7) NO VEHICLE washing of any kind. LAWN WATER FACTS: • • • • • • Brown grass is dormant, not dead----high temperatures and dry conditions cause this mechanism to help a lawn survive summer drought. It is not necessary to water a dormant lawn at all. It will come back lush and green when cooler temperatures return. Dormant lawns (if you prefer to water) should receive 1 inch of water every 2 or 3 weeks (not every week) for 20-30 minutes during summer to prevent turf loss (less any rainfall). Over-watering dormant lawns actually harms the root system of the lawn. Regular green lawns (not during drought) only require 1-1½ inches of rain or watering 1x per week for 20-30 minutes. Best time to water is 4am-8am (our policy is 11pm to 6am due to high water GOLF CART INFO Please provide your current insurance proof every spring when you pay your final seasonal fees.
