A high-flying, hot air balloon adventure!
“Me and my girrrrls, we’re best
friends forever!”
Andrea and Emma collapsed on
the couch in laughter.
“Whew, that karaoke song has
some tough dance movements;
I can barely sing and dance at the
same time for the whole song,”
Emma panted.
Grinning, Andrea hopped back
up and continued to sing into
her microphone, “Youuuuuu
just need to practice your
cardioooooo!”
“Oh, I almost forgot!” Emma
grabbed Andrea’s hand and ran
toward her front door, “Noah is
picking me up to go on a hot air
balloon ride today, wanna come
with us?”
“Hot air balloon?” Andrea asked.
“Yup!” Emma opened her front
door to Noah who was standing
outside smiling. On the front lawn
of Emma’s house, there was a
beautiful hot air balloon.
“Ha-ha, whatever, Dre!”
“Hey Emma, what’s up Andrea?”
Noah gestured at the hot air
balloon, “Pretty cool, huh?”
DING-DONG-DINNNG!
“Definitely!” Andrea ran outside
and looked up, “How high does
this thing go?”
“As high as I want.” Noah braced
his hands on the side of the
basket and swung himself up
and over the side. “Andrea, are
you coming with Emma and
me? Hop in!”
“You bet!” Andrea hopped in,
followed by Emma. She grabbed
Emma’s hand nervously as Noah
fired up the hot air balloon. “This
is safe, right?”
“Oh yeah,” Emma grinned,
“Noah is a great pilot. We’ll be
fine!”
“Then…let’s go!!”
Noah cheered as the balloon
slowly rose from the ground,
“Houston, we have lift off!”
The hot air balloon slowly rose up
above Emma’s house and floated
over Heartlake City, bobbing
gently in the breeze.
“Look how tiny Heartlake High is
from up here!” Emma pulled out
her phone and snapped a picture,
“I’m totally putting this up on
Instagram.”
“As long as you have your phone
out, let’s take a selfie!” Andrea
suggested.
Noah, Emma and Andrea leaned
in together as Emma snapped a
picture. “This is gorg! I love it!”
“Yeah but...” Noah squinted at
the picture, “What’s that dark
stuff behind us?”
The three friends turned and
realized that the warm, sunny sky
suddenly was filling up with dark
storm clouds.
“Oh no! But…I thought it was
supposed to be a perfect day?”
Andrea cried.
“The weather can change really
fast…” Noah tried to steer the
hot air balloon in the opposite
direction, “And it looks like the
wind is picking up.”

Sure enough, the storm clouds
rapidly rushed in, and gusts
of wind began to toss the hot
air balloon back and forth as it
started to rain.
“Hey! I see a light over
there!” Andrea pointed
through the dark clouds
where a bright beam of
light was visible.
The storm was scary, but I’m glad I wasn’t alone!
“Oh no! Oh no, oh no, oh no—“
“Andrea, don’t panic!” Emma
reassured her friend, “Noah
has everything under control,
right Noah?”
“Uhh…I hope so?”
“Noah!” Emma shouted.
“Hey! I see a light over there!”
Andrea pointed through the dark
clouds where a bright beam of
light was visible.
“It must be the lighthouse!” Noah
began to steer the hot air balloon
toward the light. “Don’t worry, I’ll
use it as a guide and we’ll be safely
on the ground soon!”
CRACKKK!
All three friends jumped at the
sound of loud thunder. “I hope
you’re right, Noah!” Andrea
moaned.
With Noah carefully guiding the
hot air balloon, and the bright light
of the Heartlake City Lighthouse
shining through the clouds, the
three friends were able to land
safely on the ground.
“I’m totally going to have to
take a picture of that!”
“Let’s get inside!” Andrea
shouted over the wind.
The End
As they took cover inside the
lighthouse, the wind and rain
eventually tapered off, and soon
enough the sun was shining again.
“I’m glad that storm wasn’t as
bad as it could’ve been,” Noah
said as he looked around the hot
air balloon to make sure it wasn’t
damaged.
“I’m glad that you kept calm and
got us on the ground safely, Noah,”
Emma said, relieved.
Andrea started walking toward the
ice cream shop as she shook the
rain water out of her curly hair,
“…And I’m glad there’s ice cream
here, because after that adventure,
I worked up an appetite!”
Emma ran after her and caught up,
“What flavor are you going to get?”
“All the flavors!” Andrea laughed.
