This tutorial will show you how to make a hooded bath towel for a baby using half of a hand
towel and half of a bath towel. With the materials listed you will be able to make two hooded
bath towels.
Materials:
*1 Bath Towel (Pictured
towel was 24” x 44”.)
*1 Hand Towel (Pictured
towel was 15” x 25”.)
*Scissors
*Coordinating thread
*Sewing Machine
*Optional Lace or Eyelet
Trim (Approximately ½
yard)

1 Hooded Bath Towel Tutorial
1. Using a pair of scissors
cut the hand towel and
bath towel in half
widthwise. You will only
need one half of the hand
towel and one half of the
bath towel to make one
hooded towel. (The hand
towel pieces shown are now
15” x 12.5” and the bath
towel pieces are now 24” x
22”)
2. Using a zigzag stitch
sew along the cut edges of
both the hand towel and
bath towel pieces. (If you
have a serger that would
work as well. This step is to
prevent the towel from
raveling.)

3. Fold the hand towel
piece in half lengthwise as
shown. Pin along the cut
edge that you zigzagged in
step 2.

3 4. Using a ¼ inch seam
allowance stitch along the
zigzagged edge that you
pinned in step 3. This will
become the hood of the
hooded towel.
Edge to fold in
step 6.
You will fold
the edge toward
the sewn part of
the hood.
6. Fold up the edge of the
hood piece 2 ½ inches and
pin. If you are making the
hooded towel for a boy you
will stitch the folded edge
as is. If you are making
this for a girl you may want
to add some lace or eyelet
trim at this point. If you
add trim, simply pin it to
the towel as you are folding
and pinning.

5. Turn the hood
piece right side out.

7. Sew the folded edge of
the hood piece by
stitching along the
optional lace trim’s
stitching line or the
towel’s stitching line.
(Both the towel’s edge and
the lace trim will have a
row of stitching that is
good to follow in this step.)
8. Take the bath towel
piece and fold it in half.
Mark the center with a pin.
You will be working with
the edge of the towel that
you zigzagged in step 2.

9. Pin the unfolded edge of
the hood piece to the
zigzagged edge of the bath
towel piece by lining up the
seam of the hood to the pin
you marked the center of
the bath towel with in step
8.

5 10. Using a ¼ inch seam
allowance stitch along the
pinned edges of the hood
piece and bath towel piece
that you pinned together in
step 9.
10. Your hooded bath
towel is now finished.
Enjoy wrapping your little
one up after a bath, or make
