Activities for Children with Additional Needs
The sessions are for children with additional needs under 10 years of age and their families unless otherwise stated
Music and Dance
Come and join Alison our Harpist and the
Children’s Centre staff for a free fun session of
music, singing and dance. Each session will be
tailored to the individual needs of the children
attending. Relax and enjoy watching your children
as they are encouraged and supported to fully
participate in their own individual ways.
Age range 0 – 10 years. Wednesday 4.15pm –
5.15pm (excluding school holidays)

Thursday Club
Come and join the Children’s Centre staff and our
sports facilitator for some free sports, games and other
physical activities. Thursday Club helps children of all
abilities develop their physical skills while increasing their
confidence through a range of fun games and activities
Age range 3 – 10. years. Thursday 5.00pm – 6.30pm

Family Swimming Sessions
Free weekly swimming sessions are available for
children 10 years and under with additional needs and
their immediate family. Whilst a lifeguard will be present
at each session children must be supervised. Children
who are under 4 years old the ratio is 1-1 and children
under 8 years old the ratio is 2 – 1. Sundays 2.45pm3.45pm (Every Sunday). Morton Pools, Richard

Ball skills themed swimming session for children 10 years and
under with additional needs and their immediate family. Whilst

Little V.I.P.s / V.I.P.s are new groups for parents/carers with a child with a disability or undergoing
diagnosis. Schools are also welcome if they work with a child with a special need/undergoing
diagnosis. The group will offer professional support, activities & an opportunity to look at yours child’s
development.
5-8 Group encourages group work , getting the children to work together, taking turns, listening and
negotiating. We focus on fun in the group for the children.

Tea Time Fun
After school opportunities for children
aged 5-8 years with a disability to
develop confidence in their own
skills and knowledge. Children can
come along and enjoy play and craft
activities, make their own snacks and
have access to an exciting outdoor
environment.
These sessions are held fortnightly on
a Tuesday 3.45-4.45.p.m in Wigton
Children’s Centre.
Session must be booked in advance.

Secondary age young people. Along
with some fun activities and free social
time we will also be doing some training
relevant to your age group. Possibly BSL,
volunteer opportunities.
Come and join us for some rock climbing, zip
wire, caving etc and some time to chat and relax
with other families going through similar issues as
yourself.
Toddler sessions
We join Action for children in Workington for their
Little VIP session the last Friday of the month.
10am-12pm, The Minto Centre. There is a sensory
area and lots of different toys and things to play
with.
We join Barnardo’s the 2nd Tuesday each
month for Fox Cubs at Whale of a time in
Harraby, Carlisle. If you want a coffee before
the session come for 10.15 or 10.45am if you
just want to play.
