The exhibition with over 2,000 exhibitors had more than 45,000 visitors. Our representatives at the exhibition had numerous contacts with the distributors with which Atlantic Grupa in the forthcoming period intends to jointly explore the possibilities of entering the Russian market. Until now, Atlantic Grupa was present in Russia with its Multivita products, whose sales value in 2008 was EUR 1.7 million while for 2009 a significant sales growth is planned. During the fair, the Atlantic’s team, headed by Branko Fureš, talked with potential buyers from more than 30 countries and these new contacts resulted in plans for potential placement on the large market of the United Arab Emirates. During meetings at the fair the trend of transitioning the product from a “family” to a “to go” concept was emphasized which is by itself a kind of recognition for Cedevita GO! and the advantages it offers to consumers outside their home. At the beginning of January a new Atlantic’s web was inaugurated as the result of a six month effort of the Corporate Communications Department with the goal to make the new internet page of Atlantic Grupa even more informative and interesting than the previous one. This new internet page at the old address, www. atlantic.hr, contains abundant information divided into 5 categories to facilitate user orientation: about us, careers, media, investors and products. The team, who worked on the new webpage project, headed by Fea Hudina, was guided by the idea to create a webpage which would have advanced design, animations offering company information in a new and different way and transparent and easily accessible information on Atlantic Grupa. On its webpage Champ offers an overview of all products with their benefits and nutrition information. On this webpage consumers may also receive useful advice on essential product ingredients as well as recommendations on achieving individual training goals. TOPIC OF THE ISSUE TOPIC OF THE ISSUE Cedevita GO! - The largest production investment By starting distribution on the market, Atlantic Grupa launched the largest ever investment project in the own product segment - Cedevita GO! It concerns a development project worth 75 million kuna on which Atlantic’s employees worked for more than six years and in the course of which an innovative product solution was developed and patented. In the segment of vitamin drinks, Cedevita GO! introduces a revolutionary option of drinking a freshly prepared Cedevita on the move while the patent itself is suitable for application in a number of areas of the wider food industry. The most significant innovation introduced by the project Cedevita GO! can be found in technical characteristics of the patented cap which was never before ma- nufactured in the food sector. The cap contains Cedevita granules separating/merging them with a bottle of water into which the granules are released by simple twisting of the cap. By realising the project Cedevita GO! Atlantic launched on the market a new category of almost-ready-to-drink (ARTD) products as well as introduced the option of consuming a fresh vitamin drink with nine necessary vitamins in any situation. The important convenience of the product itself lies in the fact that by mixing Cedevita granules with water directly before consumption preserves the stability of vitamins which is necessarily lost in liquid over time. The new product introduces Cedevita, as the leading instant vitamin drink in the regi- 1970- first Cedevita is produced on, to a new spending segment - the so called consumption on the move. After Cedevita’s popularity in households for over 40 years and a great success of the project concerning Cedevita in 15-gram packaging for the catering industry channel, the project Cedevita GO! makes this favourite brand available to any consumer, wherever he is. 2002 - the idea of Cedevita GO! is born 2008 - beginning of production Spectacular kick off in Opatija A great regional conference, due to the concurrent market entrance of Cedevita GO! in five states in the region, was held in Opatija at 16th and 17th January. Atlantic’s people overflowed the Grand Hotel 4 Opatijan Flowers which welcomed them fully clothed in the Cedevita GO! sign. Sales teams from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia gathered at the party opened by the hostess Renata Sopek and followed with a welcoming note by Executive Director for the Consumer Health Care Division Tomislav MatusinoviÊ who is the manager behind the largest own product launch in the history of Atlantic Grupa. The party was stirred up with a series of hits by the energetic Maja Šuput and her band and the night would not have been complete without the performance of Atlantic’s vocal virtuosos and a prize January 2009 kick off in Opatija February 2009 Cedevita GO! in the stores Who is behind Cedevita GO!? Nevenka VraË, Ivan PaveliÊ, Natalija Fink, Josip ViliÊ, Ivan CeroveËki, Marko Smetiπko, Tomislav MatusinoviÊ, Koraljka Koncul CEDEVITA GO! DIARY authors: Nevenka VraË and Ivan PaveliÊ Since its establishment in 1969 and first production a year later to this very day Cedevita has been a leader in the category of instant vitamin drinks. It formulation is continuously improved, new scientific knowledge and experts’ recommendations are incorporated, new technologies are applied, assortment is expanded and care is taken to ensure product quality, recognisability and modernity. While consumer demands are most important, the Management’s demands on research and development employees are most strenuous. The idea of “CEDEVITA in sachets” was just realised when a new demand came from the President of the Management Board: “come up with a packaging that will be 2 for 1 meaning CEDEVITA granules packaged together with water and simply mixed when the customer wishes so”. How to reconcile the irreconcilable, how to solve the unsolvable? How to put CEDEVITA, which is moisture-sensitive, together with water? After short consultations, very serious work commenced. Information were gathered, partners sought out and numerous obstac- les crossed upon. We quickly figured out that the Project is more than demanding and that it can only be solved in cooperation with an experienced and reliable packaging manufacturer inclined to look for new solutions. This resulted in finding a Dutch company Teamplast with a 40-year long tradition. The Project CEDEVITA GO went through all phases: defining the idea, forming a team, elaborating the idea, realising it, testing potential solutions, selecting and improving the solution, patenting, designing the product line and equipment for producing commercial solutions, purchasing the equipment, breaking-in the production and, finally, regular production. The Project was characterised by periods of large and small steps. Sometimes within a few days a lot was accomplished and then again sometimes we were back at the beginning. Frequ- ently it was the small things that took months to find a solution, such as: variation in the thickness of plastic of less than a tenth of a millimetre, microgram-sized water leakage, lumping of granules, invisible misalignments that obstructed the cap activation and functionality. Both the cap and granules were worked on in parallel, formulation modified, process improved, numerous measurements taken, results analysed, tests repeated in order to achieve the desired product stability. Every detail was scrutinised. And so, after five years of relentless work and enthusiasm of a small team of Atlanticers, the project is in the last stage of realisation and soon to be launched on the market. What were the project challenges? The concept of the cap itself had to reconcile two irreconcilable things: Cedevita granules, extreme- contest with valuable awards. The work started on Saturday morning, firstly with an entertaining-educational programme performed by the strong marketing forces of the Consumer Health Care Division headed by Executive Director Koraljka Koncul and famous TV stars - Mario PetrekoviÊ and Renata Sopek. This was followed by presentation workshops introducing distribution staff with the new product and the planned distribution and promotion strategy for Cedevita GO! Participants learned even more about the new product through an interesting team building and the memory of this meeting was ensured in a grandiose style by a well-known photographer Šime Strikoman who joined all participants in a millennium photograph at the Opatija’s pier in a formation of the trademark GO!. (Picture is on the coverage) ly moisture-sensitive, and water, which is until the time of consummation the greatest enemy of those same Cedevita granules. They could have been separated only by foil, preferably the thicker the better. How can it be so thick if opening it must be as easy as possible? Ok, then as thin as possible. How can it be so thin when a thin foil cannot be applied onto a cap, it has a small layer for welding and it leaks moisture? Furthermore, the foil must be resistant to the effects of high and low temperatures since the bottle’s final destination is the fridge. And when, step by step, all of this was solved, we needed to find a machine that can make both light and hard aluminium foil, set it up on a container, weld it so it is impermeable and do all this in 400 milliseconds. This requirement was put in front of Fords, a global leader in manufacturing so called “milk cap” products. The first try, using until then globally proven solutions, was a failure. This was also the reason for postponing the market launch of Cedevita GO. We didn’t want to put on the market a product that wasn’t 100% correct. Regardless of daily contacts with Fords, there was always an underlying danger that it wouldn’t work. Fords did not buckle under the challenge and a new technical solution, the world’s first, was successfully implemented on our cap. In this entire CEDEVITA GO story, the most important question, without any doubt, is; What are the main advantages of CEDEVITA GO? Vitamins are highly sensitive components with their stability affect by: temperature, moisture, light, oxygen, medium in which they are contained, presence of other components, time in which they are exposed to any of those factors and the type of packaging they’re in. However, vitamins are much more stable in powder dry products than in liquid ones. Powder products for a longer validity period preserve their organoleptic properties, unchanged structure and microbiological quality. Therefore, the hardest part of the project was to preserve CEDEVITA granules from the effects of water and at the same time have water inside the same packaging. After a night spent in the tent, we find ourselves at the altitude of 4,928 metres, a height that demands complete acclimatization followed by a climb to 5,000 metres, and then acclimatization again. Unfortunately, due to unprepared guides, we are forced to give up on our climb to the very top. Our next target is to cross the highest, now covered with snow, summit pass in the world Thorong La, where we arrived after 3 hours and leave behind a Croatian flag to flicker in the winds of faraway Himalayas. On 13 September we enter the region of Mustang, and then in Lo Manthang, our final destination. Ten days of our journey passed like in a second, and we return to Nepal’s capital where our trip home will start. The conference programme was continued by Prof. Ian Bates, Director of the Pharmacy Education Taskforce of the World Health Organisation who presented the possibilities of professional training and after him Dr. Catherine Duggan, Chair of the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association, who emphasized the importance of mutual collaboration of different sectors and organisations in health care services. After the lecture of Maja JakševacMikša from the Croatian Pharmaceutical Society, the series of lectures was closed by the Head of the Education Centre Atlantic Farmacia, Arijana MeštroviÐ, who held an inspirational presentation with a lot of practical examples. Speaking about the opportunities for education and competence development of pharmacists in a modern company and activities of the Education Centre, she pointed out that Atlantic is a company that wishes to follow global trends in providing pharmacy care. Questions from the audience instigated an interesting expert discussion on the methods in which the growth of competences in the pharmacy segment may be achieved and this discussion successfully ended the conference. With yet again confirmed itself as a significant factor within the pharmacy profession in Croatia. Not even two years passed and we were again in Nepal, the Himalayas; a country with highest mountains in the world. Before arriving we made detailed plans for trekking around Annapurna, climbing Pisang Pek, a peak at the altitude of 6,091 metres, followed by conquering Thorong La, the highest summit pass in the world. After a few days in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal located at the altitude of 1,100 metres, we went on a two-day trip to Pokhara, a small town that grew on the coast of Phewa Lake that is surrounded by snow-covered Himalayan peaks and where the temperature is 30 C. After a week in Nepal, we started our trekking trip. The night before we visited a white temple where we joined a farewell ceremony in which Buddhist priests called llamas invoked luck on our journey through prayers and by tying “katas” (Tibetan silk scarves used in introductions and farewells). The morning brought the long-awaited trekking that started through gentle green rice fields, a wonder of geometric regularity. We are now at the height of 800 m with moisture and heat additionally depleting our strength, but luckily, most of the way goes alongside river Marsyandi. In the afternoon we reached Pisang, where curious children welcome us and we bring them joy be giving out Atlantic’s pens and candies.
