ZENITH: Reaching High APRIL 2016 SCHOLASTIC ASPECTS OF CCE REINSTATED Teacher is a lifelong learner. The teaching fraternity has to keep abreast with the ever changing technology and the mindset of the students, thereby. Keeping this in view CBSE conducted a workshop, ‘Capacity Building Programme on the scholastic aspects of CCE’. The host school was Delhi Public School, Jodhpur. It was attended by 60 delegates from various schools across the state of Rajasthan. It was held on 18 and 19 April 2016. The honourable resource persons for the workshop were Mr. George. A. Thomas, the Principal of St. Gregorios Sr. Sec. School, Udaipur and Mr. Dibyendu Sen Sharma, Principal, DAV HZL Sr. Sec. School Dariba, at Rajsamand. They were extended a warm floral welcome by the Principal D.P.S Jodhpur, Mr. B.S.Yadav, who initiated the session. The aim of the workshop was to give an insight into the scholastic aspects of CCE. The aim, objectives and features of the CCE programme were highlighted and the misconceptions related to this system of evaluation were dealt with. There was a discussion on the expectations of CCE, the output gained by the teachers and the job done by schools. There was a word of caution for the teachers to avoid certain things while assessing a child’s performance. The tools and techniques to assess students’ performances in the course of the year were discussed. Click here to read more….. DUM SPIRO SPERO “While I breathe, I hope” A bitter sweet symphony, a sinuous of uprising and down floating, life has its own crests and troughs, and “In the doldrums of today, tomorrow, hope will float its way.” Felicitous lines from the self composed poem “Hope floats” by Bhavya. On Wednesday, 13 April 2016, the students of DPS Jodhpur stood aligned to witness the assembly presented by XII B, with the appreciable help and aid of their class teacher, Garima Rathore, simple enough, and yet diverse, to hold the audience’s attention. The students spoke on the stirring Latin term “Dum Spiro Spero” literally translated: “While I breathe, I hope.” The assembly commenced with a quote by Emily Dickinson that struck a chord within us all, Krathik Sankhlecha as the anchor. A thought was recited by Joy Bhandari enlightening us about Hope and its importance in life. An article was, then, presented by Advid, Manvi, Mansi and Garg. Bhavya recited a self composed poem “Hope Floats”. Audience was apprised of the latest happenings around the world by Divya Ostwal. Click here to read more….. PAGE 2 REJUVINATING MOMENTS “Enlighten your vision, widen your horizon, spread your wings and soar to heights undreamt of. Let a new spirit embrace you, let a new spark ignite you. Tread your journey with hopes as high as mountains and with a fresh spirit.” The new session of 2016-17 was marked with the special assembly on 4th April 2016. The assembly was conducted by the students of class XII, inspired by the topic “Heralding a New Dawn”. The thought was spoken by Himanshu Maheshwari. General Awareness through news was provided by Nikhilendra Rathore. An article was jointly presented by Nikhar Jain and Prashant Tak. They inspired everyone by telling them how to learn from the past and move on with a wider vision. Principal, Mr. B.S. Yadav appreciated the assembly and told everyone to work as hard as possible for fruitful results, specially the students of class XII. THOUGH THINGS MAY GO WRONG, FACE THEM AND NEVER QUIT “Your success and failure lies within you, it is up to you which one you choose.” The assembly on 20 April 2016 was conducted by class XII C under the guidance of the Class Teacher Mr. Sandeep Singh Sisodia. The assembly was presented by Anushka Mathur starting with some beautiful lines stating that “Though things may go wrong, face them and never quit.” Aakash Solanki presented a beautiful thought to encourage the gathering. Shobhit Saxena then updated everyone with the latest happenings around the world. Then a motivating article was presented by Piyush Genwa. Piyush highlighted the various aspects of success and an unconventional silent approach to success. The article was followed by inspirational thoughts composed by Srishti Srivastava motivating the gathering to kill the doubts before they kill your dreams and push them hard when they try to stop you and climb up to reach your dreams. A two day National Seminar on the topic “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar: Contribution to Nation Building” was conducted by Sardar Patel University of Police, Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur, on 13 and 14 April 2016. Harshwardhan Singh Rathore, Akansha Purohit, Vidhi Kackar, Piyush Sharma and Palash Nebhwani escored by Mr. Radha Krishan Dubey of DPS Jodhpur attended the seminar. They were felicitated by Principal Mr. B.S. Yadav. Jodhpur District Basketball Association organized the under 19 Basketball Tournament .Girls Basketball team of DPS Jodhpur participated in it and bagged the second position. The team members were- Anima Mundraa, Cheshta Agarwal, Khushboo Bishnoi, Nameera Sheikh, Nehal Jain, Sanjivee Lalwani, Maanya Agarwal, Palak Gundecha, Parul Laddha, Priya Saran, Saroj Charan, Shivangi Thanvi. Sanjivee LAlwaani, Cheshta Agarwal, Nehal Jain and Shivangi Thanvi from the team of DPS Jodhpur have qualified and will participate in the States Tournament to be conducted from 24 to 26 April 2016 at Barmer. Principal, Mr. B. S. Yadav appreciated the students of class XII C for the huge efforts made by them to put up the assembly so beautifully. He congratulated all the students who participated in under 19 Basketball Tournament and National Seminar by Sardar Patel University of Police, Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur. PAGE ANGELS IN DISGUISE - OUR PARENTS “Flowers bloom beyond compare ,a rainbow splits into seven colours. Dew drops adorn my lovely soul and sunrise teaches me a beautiful lesson. It’s when my heart gets cuddled and empowered with an affection, so pious, so gentle of my mother.” A beautiful assembly was conducted by the students of XII A, on 6 April 2016. The theme was “Angels in Disguise- Our Parents”. The thought was presented by Dipanshi Digga. The news was read by Abhilash Mathur. A touching article was presented by Nikhar Jain, Yashika Sharma, Kritika Deora and Shantam Mohata. They focussed on the hardships faced by the parents for upbringing a child. An emotional poem was recited by Manasvi Vashishtha. All had spoken about the importance of parents in our life and told that it is the duty of the children to pay utmost respect and attention to their parents, who are the gods on Earth. A melodious and mesmerizing song was presented by Naman Mahajan, Nikhar Jain, Aditya Singh Rathore, Eshaan Parihar, Prashant Tak and Manasvi Vashishtha. The assembly was compeered by Himanshu Maheshwari. Respected Principal Sir awarded Aayushi Shambhawani of Class XII J, Naman Mordia of class XII J, Rishabh Chaajer of class XI B and Sanjeevi Lalwani of Class XI J for winning position in IX Charu Castle Foundation Painting Competition. Lalit Kala Academy and Sir J. J. School of Arts organized “Small Hand Big Art Competition 2015”. Rishabh Chaajer and Naman Mordia of DPS Jodhpur were named in best 150 entries. They will get the opportunity to attend a workshop in Mumbai on 20th May 2016.Picasso Art Gallery, Malaysia organised the Picasso Art Contest Season 1, 2016. Out of 5500 entries from 55 countries, Naman Mordia was awarded the “Golden Artist Award”. DRDO, Jodhpur organized Science Quiz in the month of February 2016. Prakash shukla of class X secured the first position in his category, Himanshu Katewa of class XII secured third position in his category and Arya Agarwal of class X secured second position in her category. Principal, Mr. B.S. Yadav congratulated the winners and did special mention of the Fine Arts Department. He appreciated the assembly and said that the topic was very close to his heart. Over all, it was a very sentimental performance by the students. th EARTH DAY CELEBRATION A special assembly marked the event of Earth Day Celebration. It was conducted by the students of class IV and V. The day began with the prayer service invoking mother earth’s blessings, followed by a beautiful thought on nature. An article “IMPORTANCE OF NATURE AND ITS PROTECTION“ was presented telling that the earth is the only planet in the Universe where life is possible till date. It also emphasized to maintain the natural assets of the earth in order to continue the life on the earth. A delightful poem on “mother earth” was recited by a student of class IV. Students delivered superb slogans on earth day. A play “Our Mother Earth” was staged motivating all to keep the planet as beautiful as ever. In the end a foot tapping dance was presented on “jungle theme “ jungle jungle pata chala hai….”. Ms. Kaajal congratulated the students for their performance. She shared the importance of three R’s of the Environment. Reduce- to reduce the amount of waste one produces is the best way to help the environment. Reuse- instead of throwing the things away, try to find the ways to use them again!Recycle- to create new products out of the materials from the old ones. The programme concluded with the blessings of the Headmistress, Ms. Abhilasha Shaw who strengthened the importance of nurturing the nature and preserving the planet earth. She emphasized the students to prioritize the protection of OUR MOTHER EARTH. 3 PAGE A WARM FLORAL WELCOME “A Welcome assembly was conducted for the students of class IV by the supervisor, class teachers and activity teachers. It is a period transition for the students as they have come from Junior Block to the Middle Block. It entails a change from mother teacher to subject teacher, new friends, new books and new atmosphere. It was a special assembly as the teachers performed a skit for them. The skit was based on the importance of moral values in a student‘s life. The assembly commenced with the prayer service followed by meditation. As students are fond of stories and could retain them for a longer period of time, for the same a moral and inspirational story was narrated by one of the teachers “Jeevan mein vinaysheelta”. The skit began with a musical rendition of the song “We welcome you........ to the family”. In the skit an angel as a messenger of God taught the importance of virtues like thankfulness, patience, discipline, hard work, happiness, teamwork and honesty. At the end everybody in the skit danced on the beats of a beautiful song “Zindagi hans ke bitayenge ge.......” Kaajal ma’am further emphasized the importance of moral values in an individual’s life, especially a student. She encouraged the students to participate and perform in the class assemblies. The programme culminated with the blessings of the Headmistress, Ms. Abhilasha Shaw who reinforced the above virtues and took a promise from the students to imbibe these virtues in their lives. An Inspiring Soul “DR. BHIMRAO AMBEDKAR” An enthralling assembly was conducted by the students of classes V & VI which was hosted by Sakshi Jain and Ronit. It began with the school prayer which was sung gracefully by the choir members. Tanishq came up with ‘Thought for the Day’ which was “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” Smriti delivered the national, international and sports news which was followed by a recitation of a beautiful poem ‘New Beginnings’ by Vineesha. An article was presented by Kismat on Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, in which she let the assembly know about his life and his contribution in framing the constitution of India. She further explained that he was popularly known as Babasaheb, who was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination against Untouchables. Medals for participation in Maths Olympiad were given away by the Headmistress, Ms. Abhilasha Shaw, to the students for their excellent performance and achievements. The winners were awarded with the gold, silver and bronze medals. They were also acknowledged by the huge round of applause by the assembly. Rishika of class VI was awarded with the medal for excellence. Ms. Abhilasha Shaw, the Headmistress, Middle Block, appreciated the assembly and motivated the students to participate in the competitions held in the school to face the challenges and to have the winning instinct. She also guided students about the importance of taking part in the competitions and its outcomes and why these are essential in a student’s life. 4 INCULCATING MORAL VALUES “Respect for ourselves guides our morals; respect for others guides our manners” “The children entrusted to us are like seeds that need nourishment of values and education. As part of our continuous endeavor to achieve a holistic development of our children, an assembly was conducted on 13 April, 2016 in the Primary Block. The assembly aimed at sensitizing the children about the importance of good manners. The assembly started with the school prayer which the children chanted in gusto. Later the students of class II-A welcomed the students in the initiating assembly of the session and shared the fruits of good manners namely Sorry, Thank You, Excuse Me, May I ,Please etc. They then sang out a short rhyme on good manners. The assembly concluded by the blessings of headmistress Ms Pallavi Das. The children who were in the audience carefully watched the presentation and left us with a belief to have imbibed the RHYME TIME Rhymes, when taught through puppets, grab the attention of the tiny tots. The first assembly of the session 2016-17 was conducted on 8 April. “Five little ducks, Mamma darling, Ek kaua pyasa tha” and many more were presented with proper voice modulation using a variety of puppets. The idea was to make the little ones comfortable and happy. The rhyme session not only brought happiness but also informally made them have a sense of music and rhythm. The assembly culminated with the blessings of the Supervisors of classes Nursery and Prep. PAGE (Contd…) SCHOLASTIC ASPECTS OF CCE REINSTATED … To involve the teacher participants in the workshop, many activities were conducted. The handouts were given which were to be summarized by the teachers segregated into various groups. To lighten the atmosphere, the teachers were made to dance on melodious numbers. Puzzles were given to enthuse their spirits. Question paper drafting activity was given to the groups formed subject wise. The participants had to frame the question papers keeping in view the ‘Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy’. The workshop culminated with a vote of Thanks given by the Principal. The Principal presented a memento to the distinguished resource persons as a token of appreciation for all the hard work they had put in, to make the workshop a success and learning and enriching experience. Certificates were awarded to all the participants. It was a learning experience, especially for those who were not attuned to this system of evaluation and newly introduced to it. The session broke on an optimistic note of making sincere efforts to implement all the nuances of CCE with great zeal and enthusiasm. (Contd…) DUM SPIRO SPERO “While I breathe, I hope” … To soothe the morning, a beautiful song was presented by Vishesh, Yash and Harshit on “Hope”, making us want to sway and sing along. The students presented the assembly with a lot of cohesion, impeccable coordination and consideration. The Principal, Mr. B. S. Yadav found the topic quite positive and told the students to keep positive mindset in life. He felicitated the students who won the positions in EduHeal Foundation in association with Bombay Stock Exchange International Finance Olympiad. Total 36 students of DPS Jodhpur of class XI and XII Commerce participated in the competition. In class XII category Ankit Tatiya, Amit V Parakh and Parikshit Bajaj secured the first position at the school level and seventh at the State level. In class XI category Bhragu Rathi secured the first position, Rishabh Choudhary secured the second position and Ritik Agarwal and Saurabh Mittal secured the third position at the school level. Bhragu Rathi secured the first position in the second level too and received a cash prize of Rs. 12000. Seven students of Delhi Public School participated in the Zakir Hussain Delhi College MUN held on 4 April 2016 to 6 April 2016 at the ZHDC Campus. Headed by a learned Executive Board, the students participated in ECOSDC and UNSC committees. The participants were- Piyush Genwa XII C, Pavit Kaur XII E, Harshvardhan Singh XII J, Raveen Choudhary XII J, Divyum Maheshwari XI, Laxman Singh Rathore XII B and Shruti Gupta XII C. Laxman Singh Rathore got a verbal mention for his impressive performance in the committee. The students gained a lot of knowledge and plethora of experience, on being exposed to a formal environment. 6
