THE HEALING SOUNDS OF MUSIC
Not only can music be soothing, it can also be a healing
influence in our lives. Research published in medical
journals demonstrates exposure to music, when
combined with standard medical care, results in better
health outcomes. Music has proven to be effective in
treating a wide variety of conditions, from stress and
depression, to addiction and pain management, to
healing and recovery after surgery. It also improves
immunity and facilitates social bonding.

And, as we have already seen, the program also will encourage
unknown artists to share their gifts with the hospital.

“Music, with its power to reduce stress and lift spirits, is
ongoing at Eskenazi Health.
We are partnering with community musical organizations
to identify local and visiting musicians who might be
interested in performing at the hospital. Our intent is
to welcome artists of diverse genres to expose patients,
families and staff to a wide range of musical experiences.
Another opportunity we will investigate is inviting
musicians to play at patient bedsides. This has proven to be
