They made special fall binoculars before they went outside to search for "signs of fall." After searching high and low, they stopped to make a leaf scarecrow and play a few games too. Le Roy, NY 14482 LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 23, 2016 LeRoy Junior Knights Game 7 of the Junior Knights’ season was played at Babcock Park deep in the valley of Dansville. Mother Nature provided a nice fall backdrop on a sunny and unseasonably warm Sunday afternoon. Dansville started with the ball as LeRoy won the toss and deferred to the second half. LeRoy’s defense showed up ready to play as they held Dansville to negative three yards on their first possession. Andrew Greene and Zach Samis took control of the line of scrimmage and Luke Lathan met the running back twice behind the line of scrimmage. LeRoy would take over at Dansville’s 32 yard line. Consecutive offside penalties by Dansville set up LeRoy at Dansville’s 22. Adam Woodworth, Jake Higgins and Luke Lathan teamed up along with another offside penalty on the “D” to give LeRoy the ball at Dansville’s 3 yard line when Adam Woodworth punched it for the score. Woodworth followed up his touchdown run with a successful PAT try giving LeRoy the early lead. LeRoy 8 – Dansville 0. On Dansville’s second pos- LeRoy 26 – Dansville 8 session, they were able to hold onto the ball for 11 plays taking the ball down to LeRoy’s 44 yard line. It was there, on 3rd and long, that Avante’ Walker made a great play while in perfect pass coverage to deflect the ball away from the receiver. Then on 4th down, Walker made another great play “on the edge” to stop the Dansville ball carrier from reaching the 1st down marker. A quick turnover gave Dansville the ball right back at the LeRoy 43 yard line. Dansville again held onto the ball for 8 plays however on 4th and 4, Holden Sullivan burst through the line wrapping up the Dansville running back at the LeRoy 40. A holding call negated a 55 yard touchdown run on the second play of LeRoy’s next drive, but not for long. On the very next play, Adam Woodworth got free for 65 yards behind the left side of the LeRoy line. After an unsuccessful extra point attempt, LeRoy led by 14 points. LeRoy 14 – Dansville 0. The first half ended when the Dansville quarterback’s pass fell short of his intended receiver after another 8 play drive by Dansville. In all, Dansville’s 1 Church St., LeRoy, NY 14482 offense held onto the ball for 31 first half plays while limiting the LeRoy offense to only 12 plays and 14 points. Halftime Score – LeRoy 14 – Dansville 0. LeRoy’s offense opened up the second half with the ball and would embark on the first of two 11 play second half scoring drives. The backfield of Lathan, Higgins and Woodworth would share the ball as they marched methodically down the field leading to a 3 yard touchdown run by Adam Woodworth to push the score to LeRoy 20 – Dansville 8. Dansville’s only score came on the next possession when they raced down field in two plays, a 20 yard scamper followed by a well-executed counter that resulted in a 45 yard touchdown. A successful PAT attempt made the score LeRoy 20 – Dansville 8. LeRoy’s final score came on the next possession, their second 11 play drive of the second half. All four members of LeRoy’s backfield got in on this one as Jude Sherman, Jake Higgins, Luke Lathan and Adam Woodworth teamed up to move the ball down to the 4 yard line where Luke Lathan finished it off with a touch- 585.768.2201 down run up the middle. Final Score LeRoy 26 – Dansville 8. Luke Lathan led the LeRoy defense with 12 tackles, 11 in the first half. Holden Sullivan followed with 5 tackles. Jack Egeling, Andrew Greene, DJ O’Geen, Zach Samis, Jude Sherman and Adam Woodworth all had 3 tackles. Cameron Wilson, Jacob Bowman, Jake Higgins, Aaric Luce and Joey Reschke each tallied two tackles. Braeden Mathieu, Jaxon Burnside, Andrew Davis, Connor Elmore, Jay Lathan, Cameron Riggi and Avante’ Walker recorded 1 tackle a piece. LeRoy’s offense was paced by Adam Woodworth who finished with 189 yards on 16 carries. Luke Lathan carried the ball 7 times for 28 yards, Jake Higgins 5 times for 22 yards and a 12 yard reception. Jude Sherman had 2 runs for 14 yards. Noah Kaczanowski carried the ball 4 times and Connor Elmore and Joey Reschke each had 1 run. Alex Spezzano completed his only pass attempt for 12 yards. LeRoy finishes the regular season at home on October 23rd against Geneseo. w w w. l p g r a p h i c s. n e t LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 23, 2016 Legislative Questionnaire Responses Help To Better Represent Our Community by Senator Ranzenhofer October, 2016 Earlier this year, I asked for your views on a number of state issues, including Western New York’s economy and the Common Core Learning Standards, as part of a nine-question Legislative Questionnaire. As your State Senator, your opinions are important to me. Your input helps me to better represent you, your family and our community in the New York State Senate. Over 10,000 residents in the 61st Senate District– from Amherst to Rochester– responded by completing and returning the survey to my office. Thank you to each and every resident who completed the survey for sharing your thoughts with me. My district office continued to receive responses in the mail even as late as the end of the summer. Since then, answers to the questionnaire have been compiled, and I would like to share some of the results with you. For the first question about Western New York’s economy, only twenty-three percent of constituents said it was good, strong and improving. That is why I have been working to lower taxes and eliminate regulations to help our manufacturers and small businesses grow our economy and create jobs. For example, the tax rates for manufacturers and small businesses are at the lowest levels since 1917 and 1968, respectively. However, we still have a long way to go. Eighty-five percent of residents did not support the Governor’s budget proposal to allow undocumented, illegal immigrants to access state financial aid. I am pleased to report that I worked to successfully reject this provision, and it was not included in the final budget. If it had been enacted, it would have cost taxpayers $27 million. Eighty-four percent of constituents supported a fair share of state transportation dollars for Upstate New York’s roads and bridges. As you may recall, the Governor’s budget originally shortchanged Upstate and Western New York by $6 billion. I fought, throughout the budget process, for a fair and more equitable distribution of resources, and I was able to deliver a record level of funding, $27.1 billion, to fix Western New York’s highways, roads and bridges. Lastly, almost sixty percent of respondents endorsed legislation T-SHIRTS • SWEATSHIRTS SPORTSWEAR to allow ride-sharing companies, such as Uber and Lyft, to operate in Upstate New York. Under existing state law, these companies are not permitted to do business in Western New York. While I co-sponsored one bill and voted for another to change the law, the New York State Assembly did not pass the legislation. I hope that you find this update about the questionnaire results to be informative and helpful. As always, I am here to serve you. If I can ever be of assistance to you or your family, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone at (716) 631-8695, e-mail at [email protected] or on the web at ranzenhofer. nysenate.gov or Facebook.com/ Mike.Ranzenhofer. lpgraphics.net Call 768-2201 1 Church St., Le Roy, NY LeRoy Moose Family Center Themed Halloween Party | “Let’s Make A Deal” Open To The Public Families Welcome! *October 29th at 8pm * *Prizes for winners! * Benefits the Town Swimming Pool Please join us at the LeRoy Moose Family Center 21 Bank St., LeRoy • 768-6170 Veterans Honor Night November 19th 5-8pm Open to all Vets and a Guest December 18 Breakfast With Santa - 9am-11am For our Members and Qualified Guests; • Thanksgiving Eve Party 11/23 featuring band Drivin • Moose Legion Chicken Wing Nights 10/27 and 11/10 6pm-halftime on Thursday Night Football • Moose Christmas Party 12/17 Winterfest Dec. 3 Turkey Raffle November 13th 1-4pm Raffles, Chinese basket auction and food LeRoy Women Of The Moose, Chapter 370 Women of the Moose Serving Fish Frys on Fridays Trivia and Karaoke to Follow LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 23, 2016 The LeRoy Red & Black Flag Football Teams Keller, Hall, Kochmanski & Dunaway Lead Leroy The LeRoy youth Flag Football teams traveled to Dansville this past Sunday in an evenly aged matchup for the second time this year. On a perfect warm fall day in the valley of a picturesque small town it was another fun filled, football frenzy funday-Sunday to enjoy. The intensity peaked early at Babcock Park as the Pee-Wee teams battled in a fierce game that had both sidelines feeling chippy. The RED & BLACK flag squads were prepared for chippy, fast pace, slow pace, and Dansville's best player, Chance Dean-Diaz. LeRoy prepared all week for the athletic Dean-Diaz who is the star on the Dansville Black team. The LeRoy coaches brought in former players to mimic Dean-Diaz's talents and abilities in practice. Coach Kevin Olivani, felt well prepared for anything Dansville had to offer as he described his squads preparation,"phenomenal!". The LeRoy RED team facing Dansville's Red team started off on defense first and to the surprise of everyone, Chance Dean-Diaz was in a Red jersey. Dansville had this game on the calendar circled as many do when the LeRoy Knights roll into their town. This was Dansville's Super Bowl as they stacked 1 team to compete with the well rehearsed RED & BLACK KNIGHTS from LeRoy. It didn't take long for the LeRoy defense to spot the curveball switch as Dean-Diaz was lined up, eye to eye against Carson "Nutter" Stiles. "Nutter island" has not been friendly since being burned by York's speedy back, Bauer three weeks ago as the younger Stiles brother has shut down everything that has come his way with some help from his friends, Chandler "The next big thing" Hall, Kade "Kaderaide", Olivani , and Ryder Stiles. Nutter island would stay unfriendly and combative as Dansville would not gain a yard on their first possession. It would take only 3 plays as the crisp RED offense led by Ryder Stiles at quarterback would feed "The Road Runner", Donovan Gaillard on a 47 sweep.....Beep Beep, TOUCHDOWN! Gaillard would score 3 times on the day as he was unstoppable in the first half. The RED defense fought hard against the stacked Dansville team and did not allow Dean-Diaz in the end zone. Ryder Stiles and Kade Olivani both made last second flag grabs that could have been touchdowns. "Nutter" shadowed Dean-Diaz throughout the first half as the relentless RED defense kept the talented half back out of the end zone. The RED team faced the Dansville Black team in the second half without their best player Dean-Diaz and it was an offensive explosion for the RED Knights. Standouts, Andreas Condidorio and Donovan Gaillard otherwise know as Jacob Keller runs for his first career Touchdown "Thunder & Lightening" would not touch the ball on offense in the second half as they rested for Geneseo. J a c o b " M r. H a n d s o m e " Keller took a 22 dive straight up the middle, then juked to the left with Dansville defenders in his rear view mirror, burned down the sideline, into the end zone, TOUCHDOWN! Keller's touchdown was the first of his career. This play will not be forgotten as the LeRoy fans were loudly cheering on the fan favorite "Mr Handsome". On the very next offensive possession starting left guard and middle linebacker Chandler Hall got the call on another 22 dive. Hall busted through the hole as if he were a John Deere combine and decimated the Dansville defense. Again the LeRoy faithful fans erupted with noise as the big boy, Hall rumbled into the end zone, TOUCHDOWN! Hall's first career TD as he is showered with appreciation from his teammates. On the 3rd offensive possession Jacob "Snuggle in the Huddle" Kochmanski would get the call on yet another 22 dive. Kochmanski would break off into the secondary only to be tackled from behind. Kochmanski, visibly upset, takes the play after next into the end zone for an easy breezy TOUCHDOWN! The LeRoy faithful erupt into cheer once again as "Snuggle in the huddle" gets his first career score. Andreas Condidorio, the ball hawking outside linebacker would put the exclamation point on the day as he ended the scoring with a PICK 6 TOUCHDOWN! His second of the year. The LeRoy BLACK team started off the morning against Dansville's Black squad in an uneven matchup. Marin Kemp, the defensive specialist and grinding running back set the tempo early with a 95 yard TOUCHDOWN! Another "KEMP QUAKE" that gets the LeRoy fans excited. "The road grader", Grady Kanaley and Peyton Privitera would follow suit on the next 2 offensive possessions, taking the ball the distance. Privitera was not finished scoring as he threw a laser to Jude Christ that went 95 yards for a TOUCHDOWN! Four touchdowns on four possessions when Cameron Dunaway gets the call on possession #5. Dunaway has hit his stride in recent weeks dominating in practice and games primarily on defense. On this gorgeous Sunday he gets multiple carries on drive #5 and gets his first TOUCHDOWN of his career. Dunaway has already signed his letter of intent to play for the Junior Knights. He surely will look tough in pads next year and be a force right away. The second half was much more competitive as the aforementioned Dean-Diaz from Dansville started to get rolling. The LeRoy black defense held their own with Brayden Wilson, Brennan Weber, Caleb Schutt and Kemp all playing very physical. Wilson and Kemp would get knocked down and get up again (your never going to keep them down) to stop the stacked Dansville Red team. John "Hawkeye" Bogan led a drive with several nice runs that eventually led to another "Kemp Quake" TOUCHDOWN! Brennan Weber, Jude Christ and Caleb Schutt all played excellent defense with Weber garnering 5 flag grabs for a loss. Be sure to visit Hartwood Park this Sunday, October 23rd at 10:30 am as the FLAG Teams play their last game of the season. The Junior Team plays at noon and looks to remain unbeaten as they are on a championship hunt. Then the BIG BOY, Seniors take on undefeated Geneseo with both teams looking for a championship. They have a nice collection of carriages and early automobiles, and this reprint of a 1909 book, gives advice to the “Edwardian Motoriste.” It was written by Dorothy Levitt and she shared many ideas for the female driver. Since our 1908 Cadillac was purchased and driven by a woman, I thought we needed to have a copy in our library. Dorothy Levitt was the “premier woman motorist and botorist of the world.” (I checked “botorist” and discovered that it was a word to describe people who drive motorized boats.) She raced cars in England, France and Germany. The chapters in her book include the upkeep and cost of accessories; what to wear; understanding the mechanics of the car; how to drive them; motor manners; a woman’s guide to technical terms; and comments of various makes of automobiles. Here are some excerpts from “The Woman and the Car – A chatty Little Handbook for the Edwardian Motoriste”: “We now come to the various levers and their different functions. There are six levers, the changespeed, or gear lever, on the lefthand side of the steering-column, under the steering wheel; the ignition-lever and the air-lever, both to be found under the steering wheel on the right-hand side of the steering column; the hand throttle, underneath the steering wheel; in centre of column, on a small ratchet, the hand-brake lever and the first-speed lever.” “If you are driving in a very hilly or mountainous country, you must give the engine a charge of oil more frequently than every twenty miles on account of its having to be on low gear, when the engine runs much faster and is liable to get over-heated and it is does become over heated you will soon notice a nasty “knock” regarding which I will explain in a later chapter on “Troubles.” “You will find room for gloves in the little drawer under the seat of the car. This little drawer is the secret of the dainty motorist. What you put into it depends on your tastes, but the following articles are what I advise you to have in its recesses. A pair of clean gloves, an extra handkerchief, clean veil, powder puff (unless you despise them,) hair-pins, and ordinary pins, a hand mirror, and some chocolates are very soothing sometimes!” “The mirror should be fairly large to be really useful, and it is better to have one with a long handle to it. Just before starting, take the glass out of the little drawer and put it into the little flap pocket of the car. You will find it useful to have it handy – not for strictly personal use, but to occasionally to hold up to see what is behind you. Sometimes you will wonder if you heard a car behind you, and while the necessity or inclination is to look round is rare, you can, with the mirror, see in a flash what is in the rear without losing your forward way - - - “ “Another outlay is to be found in tips. The men at a garage are always hungry for tips and your car will be polished with greater zest if the tips are frequent or generous. The advertisement of a “no tip” garage is a fallacy. The proprietor may consider this principle the right one, but if you act according to his idea, your car will probably suffer.” “Some hotels and wayside inns now days clean cars which stop with them overnight without extra charge, yet the fee they charge for the garage really covers this. “ “Twenty or thirty years ago, two of the essentials to a motorist – some acquaintance with mechanics and the ability to understand local topography - were supposed to be beyond the capacity of a woman’s brain. The supposition was simply due to the fact that woman’s brain had never had occasion to approach these subjects. Fifty years ago a satirical writer – a man, of course – averred that although instructions in the use of the globes was part of the curriculum of every girls school, no woman could understand, or would try to understand a road map. . . . indeed, the average woman is probably quicker than the average man in gathering from a map the information it has to offer,” “If you are going to drive alone in the highways and byways it might be advisable to carry a small revolver. I have an automatic “Colt” and find it very easy to handle as there is practically no recoil – a great consideration to a woman. I may add, I practice continually at a range to keep my hand and eye in, it is none the less a comfort to know that should the occasion arise I have the means to defend myself.” LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 23, 2016 Send in your own artwork or let our Creative Design Staff come up with a design to suit your style and your event. BANNERSPOSTERSSIGNS LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - OCTOBER 23, 2016 LeRoy Senior Football LeRoy 22 - Dansville 8 The LeRoy Senior Knights took a trip down 390 to take on the Dansville Mustangs in Dansville on Sunday October 16th. The 5-1 Knights came to town needing a win to stay alive in the championship hunt against the 4-2 Mustangs. Dansville began the game with the ball, and used their enormous size to move the chains. But the gritty LeRoy linebackers made some adjustments, and after tackles by Drew Strollo and Xavien Walker the Mustangs turned the ball over on downs. The Knights offense moved the chains quickly with runs by Jackson Fix. A 30 yard scamper by Drew Strollo put the Knights inside the 10 yard line. Fix would dart in from 6 yards out for the TD. Strollo tacked on the 2 point conversion, giving the Knights an early 8-0 lead. T h e K n ig h t s d efe n s e would hold strong again, this time with tough defensive line play from Hunter Beverly, Ayden Riggi, and Jack Lathan. After a turnover on downs, LeRoy handed the ball right back to the Dansville offense with a fumbled snap. Dansville’s offense would capitalize, scoring 3 plays later. The conversion attempt would succeed, leaving the score at 8-8 early in the 2nd quarter. LeRoy’s offense took over the ball and initially started moving down the field. However a holding call, and several good plays by the Dansville defense would force a turnover on downs. Dansville began to move the ball down the field, threatening to score at the end of the half. However the Knights defense dug their cleats in and prevented the score, sending the game to halftime tied 8-8. LeRoy’s offense came out in the second half inspired and motivated to keep their season alive. Behind excellent blocking by Adrian Stephens, Aiden Davis, Jack Lathan, Zack Tooley, Hunter Beverly, Tristian Jones, and Ryan Higgins, the offense moved the ball down the field quickly. Jackson Fix, Tony Piazza, and Riley Williams all gobbled up yards in chunks. Fix would bull into the end zone from 5 yards out to take the lead. A missed conversion attempt would hold the score at 14-8 Knights. The defense, f lying all over the field would hold strong again, this time powered by ends Connor Hegeman and Ryan Higgins. The turnover on downs would give the Knights the ball in excellent field position. Two big runs by Jackson Fix behind Joey Biletskiy, Tristen Weiseltier, Iaien Frawley, Ayden Riggi, Bryce Lathan, and Josh Horner put the Knights inside the 5 yards line. Beefy fullback Tony Piazza would bull into the end zone from 1 yard out to score the TD, with Fix tacking on the 2 point conversion giving LeRoy a 22-8 lead. The 4th quarter featured the LeRoy defense again holding their ground, not allowing another score. The Knights offense continued to move the ball, eventually taking a knee in the victory formation deep in Dansville territory to secure the win and keep their season alive. Hunter Beverly was a beast on defense, notching 8 tackles and plugging holes all day. Xavien Walker (7) and Tony Piazza (5) made multiple stops as well from their linebacker positions. Other defenders making multiple stops included Drew Strollo (3), L-Squared - Bryce Lathan (3) and Jack Lathan (2), Jackson Fix (3), Ayden Riggi (2), Connor Hegeman (5), Ryan Higgins (3), and Antonio Martinez (2). Other Knights contributing on tackles included Connor McGee, Riley Williams, and William Bogan. Jackson Fix paced the LeRoy Knights offense with exceptionally hard running, accumulating 115 yards with 2 TDs and a conversion. Tony Piazza added 50 yards and a TD. In just over a quarter’s worth of work, Drew Strollo had 40 yards on the ground and a conversion. Riley Williams added 25 yards, while Tommy Condidorio completed all 3 of his passes. Ryan Higgins caught a pass for 5 yards. The 6-1 Senior Knights finish their regular season at home on October 23rd against the undefeated Geneseo Blue Devils squad with a trip to the championship on the line. I am pleased to announce that the tax rate will remain at 90 cents per thousand (property assessed for $100,000 would pay $90 in town tax) for the sixth consecutive year. This was much more challenging for the board than in past years because of several decreases in revenue items. However, because of appropriate fund balances and prudent spending practices, we were still able to maintain a stable tax rate. One troubling area continues to be the transfer station (as it is for many townships who offer this service). We are currently r unning a $30,000+ deficit there, so the board has decided to raise the fees for its use (the first such increase in five years). Beginning January 1, 2017, punch cards for the transfer station will cost $30 @ $3.00 per punch for a ten punch card. As was the case five years ago, current punch cards held by residents may be used to their completion. On a brighter note, the transfer station (again, after the first of the year) will be open an hour earlier, from 8:00 AM3:00 PM. Simultaneous to our budget work, reps from the Village Board and Town Board met to discuss renewal of our five year lease contract concerning the community pool. The Town Boa rd has ag reed to continue providing the insurance, program, and personnel for operation of the pool. The Village Board will continue to generously provide for utilities and an $11,000 subsidy to assist with chlorine/chemical purchases. Both highway departments work many hours to keep things operating. The reason this enterprise works, in addition to the cooperation between the village and town, is that the private LeRoy Community Pool Association continues to provide for major repairs and replacements. This is what makes an all ready strong recreation program the envy of the GLOW region. This agreement renewal is good for another five years. Finally, the Board is reviewing commentary from the first public hearing on the proposed revised Comprehensive Plan and will, shortly, be placing a final draft copy on our web site for review prior to a final public hearing. The goal is to adopt a new Plan by the end of the year. Thank you all and see you Around Town. Stephen R. Barbeau Supervisor Notes From The Mayor's Office by Greg "Porp" Rogers Mayor The LeRoy Board of Trustees and Town Council met to review the Intermunicipal Agreement regarding the Recreation Program and Pool. The agreement has been renewed for a five (5) year period. Included in the agreement is keeping the pool open and the hopes of putting in an ice skating rink. The Village Board is investigating Vacant Home Registry. The Board’s November 7th Work Session will be devoted to discussion on this subject. We encourage our resident’s to Beautiful Beginnings start with Beautiful Invitations!
